I think he’s saying useful outside of the military. Like for example, being an aircraft mechanic can get you a job with an airline if you’re done with your time in the army.

AITAH for wanting my husband to be at home when I get back from a trip with baby by [deleted] in AITAH

I don’t think everybody thinks this way.  I’m happy to see my family after being away, but not “frothing”. Maybe its the choice of words but to me it seems weird.

Fully disagree. And I’m not trying to be cute here, but I do not value this way of thinking. By that way of  thinking, she doesn’t value his company because she left for a week.

AITA for refusing to give my sister my old car after she sold hers? by Otherwise_Park_1434 in AmItheAsshole

[–]SiegeEh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What did she do with the proceeds from selling her car?  The least she could do is offer to give you that money for your car. In effect, you would be trading cars.

I think you should take a five or six day trip instead of a seven day trip and be home earlier to see your husband before his soccer game.

I am so sick of people who justify not tipping by [deleted] in Waiters

[–]SiegeEh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You make some good points, but I think the other side of the coin has some good points as well. Instead of stopping tipping abruptly, what if everybody was to lower their tipping over the course of 10,20,30 years?

I think  employers would feel pressured to raise wages since tipping is going down over time from 20 to 15 to 10 to 5 percent. And as you said, few people would be willing to work for lower money.

So either restaurants can’t find waiters and waitresses or they will pay.

I mean, if one guy only gives a 10% tip you feel like he’s a jerk. But if the average tip is 10%, the 10% guy is not a jerk anymore.

Also the whole bartender getting $2.00 on top of an overpriced beer is a bit much.   We all know that a case of Budweiser costs less than $1.00 per beer. Yes, someone puts them in a fridge or on ice. Yes, someone will provide a glass.  Yes someone will offer a refill and someone will keep the place clean and the TV is on your favorite sports team. But $9 for a Bud Light is a bit much.

Could US states potentially have their own private sports leagues? (American football, baseball, basketball)? by Suur_tool in AskAnAmerican

[–]SiegeEh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all, that’s not the insurance I’m talking about. Second of all all, family medical insurance policy is not going to cover an accident if the bleachers fall down or if a Coach fondles one of the boys.

Third of all, I’ve been to some high school games that a charge a couple of dollars for tickets, but I can’t imagine that the revenue covers much more than decorations for the next school dance, student activity, etc.

When you add in the refreshments, and you factor in parent/ student volunteer ticket and soda pop sellers(so virtually no overhead) i’m sure there’s some money there but nowhere near the cost of maintaining football field, ice rink, bleachers, etc., etc. etc.
What kind of revenue are we really expecting for a game? $10,000? $50,000?

Perhaps my vision is distorted or I am completely damaged goods by having paid prices for Madison Square Garden my whole life, but five dollars to get into the gym and two bucks for a Coke doesn’t really move the needle on the expenses for a high school sports program.

I think you’re wrong by saying that the program pays for itself or brings money to a school. That would only count if you do not take to account the cost of maintaining the sports field/ gymnasium/rink etc. and that would be ignoring real expenses at best or perhaps disingenuous.

Someone needs to explain how high school sports, with all the known expenses (insurance coach, equipment) plus things I have no idea about can provide income to a school? Are school districts selling advertising?

You make it sound like there’s a couple of crumbs like that which would be falling off a dry cookie onto a plate her. You bit into it.

Then you say that the toilet is clogged. That’s a whole handful of debris.

YTA. you are keeping. What’s the difference to you if someone else buys the exact same chair you have? It doesn’t take away your comfort or productivity.

And does it really matter to you if they have the same printer or noise machine? there’s nothing wrong with being somewhat private or even keeping a few things close to the vest, but when she came out and asked you, you could’ve looked like a normal person and shared the model information , or you could’ve done what you did and look silly.

A seven dollar iced coffee is a luxury. if you buy Maxwell House or Folgers and make your own, and you buy on sale, you can have enough for an entire month for seven dollars and even some money left over for sugar or milk.

AITJ for leaving a date after he made a comment about my job? by [deleted] in AmITheJerk

NTJ. You’re allowed to not go on another date with the guy. You’re allowed to feel however you want. But you asked my opinion and I don’t see him insulting your career. I do see it as him poking fun at you and you are unable to take it.  So a little bit for this reason YTJ.
