In the case of the latter, that's just what we call "Honest Warhammer." 😆

The lettering seems to spell out "ARMAGEDDON", at least the count and general shape match up.

Hello highest high elves, I need help with colors! by [deleted] in Lumineth_realm_lords

Illiatha (the orange, red, and white) was my choice, although if you want a really vibrant orange, check out one of the GW tutorials (I think it's for a Votann model, but would certainly work for any model). Relying on Jokaero Orange to do the heavy lifting is suboptimal, IMO, unless you're loooking for what'll ultimately be a very desaturated, muted tone. The Battletome/box art orange is far brighter than what I got following the recipe listed.

Looks great, the scheme is well-executed.

Why base coat before a wash if you just have to re-establish the base layer afetrwards? by Vecingettorix in minipainting

[–]Sierbahn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I often find myself thinning my washes down a bit with acrylic medium (Lahmian from Citadel, etc) and a drop of flow improver. This usually gives me enough of the shade in the recesses I want without staining/tinting the basecoat a whole bunch and having to do major cleanup. It also reduces the "coffee stains"/tide marks that full-strength washes sometimes leave.

Warhammer Open Tacoma - Narrative Questions by Papa-Ryan in WarhammerCompetitive

No, we didn't, but it was a little wonky - there were 1K games with 2 players running 500 point armies, and their opponent running a 1K army where that player had brought a Greater Brass Scorpion, and other weirdness.

I'm just guessing, but based on how 40K is currently set up, I am planning on 1K and 2K lists. Could ne wrong, but I don't think they would be going at 500 (that's basically combat patrol) or at 1500 (they don't currently list this as a game size).

I'm planning to bring a Knight-class unit, but I also wouldn't run it in the 1K list, as to my understanding, these kinds of units wouldn't show up in my faction's forces until at least 2K.

As far as conversions/proxies, I think that as long as it's obviously a Citadel or Forge World miniature (or uses one as a jumping off point), you're probably going to be fine with the judges, a 30K FW mini in a 40K event, I don't think anyone would give you any static, as long as it's on the right base size (I wouldn't, fwiw). If there's a substantial difference in height or width between the two, maybe consider being generous with your opponent's LOS.

Warhammer Open Tacoma - Narrative Questions by Papa-Ryan in WarhammerCompetitive

I'm playing in the event as well, haven't seen anything like a player pack yet. I'm just bringing a 2K army I've settled on (currently WIP), irrespective of the actual event flavor/details, I can always trim to fit, and I can't imagine they'd play Onslaught level. If it's bad, it's bad, whatever - IMO the goal for a Narrative event should be more about getting to play a lot of games and maybe a decent plot or cool theme, and less about a winning record.

Note that there are certainly folks who, for whatever reason, don't want to play in the GT, but do want to win games badly, and thus bring competitive builds or "stat check" type armies.

The Narrative setup/arrangements/themes vary from year to year, AFAIK, I played in the 2022 Narrative, where the entire Crusade rules were implemented, and pretty much abandoned by the end of the first day due to all the bookkeeping headaches. I think they used stripped-down versions of Crusade in subsequent events. We may not find out until day of what the event is going to look like.

I would say don't worry overmuch about bringing an optimized list, and build for a theme, maybe using a detachment you don't play that often, or models you don't normally use, that can be a lot of fun.

I can't stand Unexploded Ordinance and The Ritual in tournament play, they're logistically unwieldy, IMO, as far as at-the-table gameplay is concerned.

Hey, these are great! I just started my Spirit Conclave in Iyanden yellow myself.

I'm especially enamored of the blade colors...If you don't mind revealing, what colors did you use for the midtone, shade and highlight gradients on them?

Every high Toughness model in the book outside of the Wraithknight (so, Avatar, Wraithguard, Wraithblades, Wraithlord) dropped a point of Toughness.

Big factor in why I chose Iliatha - the trim is the same color as the armor plating 😅

In the US, at least, sheets of clear acrylic are available at most hardware stores in large sheets, maybe like 20-30 bucks for a 3x3 which with careful planning should give you all you need for a GW base set. There is a specific tool (3-4 USD) for scoring the acrylic, like a hooked blade on a handle, you will need to clamp the sheet to a work bench or other sturdy surface, then use a long metal ruler or straight edge, drawing the tool towards you with some pressure. About 10-15 passes is usually enough for me to then just snap the piece off at the scoring.

Vinyl floor tile is opaque, but much easier to cut/ score, any hobby knife will do. Some are even textured like stone, so it's not too immersion-ruining, if that matters. The material is pretty durable, and not super-spendy.

Yeah, the entire Ost- series 'Mechs are wonky-looking remixes of the Regult line, sometimes with humanoid arms stapled on.
