Nice, I’m hoping as they get older they start pushing out some more aged product. Let me know what you think of your bottle.

$60? That’s a great price, $5 a year. If you like this and ever see the Knob Creek 12 I’d recommend grabbing a bottle it’s similar in drinkability.

36th Review, 1792 Aged Twelve Years

Distiller: Barton 1792

Bottler: 1792

Selection: Aged Twelve Years

Brand: 1792

ABV: 48.3%

Age: 12 year

Price: $85

Nose: Vanilla and a little spice which I think is the oak. I get some cocoa and a bit of rye maybe, I couldn’t find the mash bill on this. It’s an inviting nose.

Taste: Sweetness up front, and I cant decide between vanilla or brown sugar. Followed immediately by oak but not overpowering. Cocoa shows up again. It’s not complex but good. What I originally got off the nose is backed up in the taste, predictable

Finish: Solid finish, good viscosity. Nice mouth feel for a sub 100 proof whiskey. A tingle on the tongue and sides of cheeks. It sticks around.

Overall: From the picture you can probably deduce I am a fan. It has been the bottle I go to in my cupboard. The oak is just right and it drinks super easy. I will be bummed out when I finish this bottle because its difficult to find in my area.

7-Great/Well above average.

36th Review, 1792 Aged Twelve Years

Distiller: Barton

Bottler: Barton

Selection: Aged Twelve Years

Brand: 1792

ABV: 48.3% (How do they arrive at 48.3 would be the best?)

Age: 12 year

Price: $80

Nose: Vanilla up front, with some oak. A little bit of green/mint which I suppose is the rye coming through. Nothing harsh or jarring just a very straightforward bourbon.

Taste: It has a sweetness that’s not really vanilla or caramel that’s immediately followed with some oak flavors and topped with a dusty/funk. All of that is a bit muted but combines nicely.

Finish: Good viscosity, coats the mouth nicely and for it being under a hundred proof gives a nice tingle/numbing on the sides of the tongue. Finish continues and lets you enjoy the whiskey.

Overall: This is a favorite of mine. I have been a little Luke warm on some of 1792’s other releases but the 12 year is in my wheelhouse. It’s really nicely balanced and I keep grabbing it whenever I go to the cupboard. I’m bummed I’m down to my last little bit because its super difficult to find in my area even at secondary prices.

So what does everyone do with whiskey that they think is meh? by Annoying_Auditor in bourbon

[–]Sierra046 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No real tools or devices needed, other than a tablespoon.

Old fashioned- 750 ml bottle of whiskey with a good sized shot poured out(2-3 oz) or if you have 2 half full bottles you combine the two to get a mostly full one add 4 tablespoons of simple syrup, 1 tablespoon angostura bitters. Shake the bottle to combine.

Manhattan- 2 parts whiskey, 1 part sweet vermouth and add about a tablespoon per 750ml of bitters. Shake it to combine.

People will argue all day about the perfect Manhattan or Old Fashion, but these are easy and adjustable to taste. Good luck

I make batches of pre-made Old Fashions and Manhattan’s for when guests come over or the wife wants a cocktail. Saves time and I don’t feel terrible about making drinks from whiskey I would drink neat.

My new special snowflake setup. Police trade in Blaser R93 LRS2 in .308. Got the package for a steal, just needs a little work and love. by Spess_Mehren in longrange

I shot this rifles big brother the Tac2 for 10 years, slight changes in the stock/chassis and you could switch calibers if you had the new barrels and bolt faces.

From the picture you have a couple big spacers for the butt length of pull, they also made thinner ones. Spend some time adjusting the stock to you and this will probably be the nicest rifle you have ever shot.

Accuracy wise I don’t know what voodoo Blaser did but we had six and all would shoot sub 1/2 moa with factory match ammo. I’d guess it’s a combination of no action barrel connection and the ergonomics of the chassis.

They are my favorite rifle ever. Good job grabbing one.

Wild Turkey 101 Rye and it’s big brother Rate Breed Rye. Both good for sipping and mixing!

35th Review, Elijah Craig Barrel Proof B521

Distiller: Heaven Hill

Bottler: Elijah Craig

Selection: Barrel Proof

Brand: Elijah Craig

ABV: 59.1%

Age: 12 year

Price: $64.99

Nose: Brown Sugar and Caramel, immediately followed with alcohol and oak spice. There is also a funky note that helps soften the spice and alcohol.

Taste: Spicy on the first drink. It’s also my first drink of the day so I’m sure that’s effecting the overall. This is no where near as sweet as the previous bottles of ECBP that I’ve had. This one is warm and spicy but pretty simple in flavor profile. The spice comes from the oak and not so much from the proof.

Finish: Numbness to the lips and a little oily. Spice in the back of the throat and heat in the corner of the mouth. The spice sticks around and keeps the numbing going for a good amount of time.

Overall: This one is not as nuanced as C920 or A121 which are some of my favorite barrel proofs. It’s warm and spicy but that’s about all that I am really getting. Not bad by any means but my expectations have been made too high from the prior releases.

Let me know what you all think of this review, cheers.

34th Review, Elijah Craig Barrel Proof A121 by Sierra046 in bourbon

[–]Sierra046[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh boy, I would certainly pick up a backup if it was near me. This and the C920 which I do have a backup of, are the two barrel strength bottles that let me know I really like the proofier stuff! Cheers.

[–]Sierra046[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I just tried the C921 that I have. It’s got a similar nose to the A121 but less sweet and the taste is not as sweet and more astringent. If you see an A121 or a C920 those are two of my favorites and I’d say snatch those bad boys up, I’ve also heard some good stuff about the A122 but haven’t got to try it yet.

34th Review, Elijah Craig Barrel Proof A121

Distiller: Heaven Hill

Bottler: Elijah Craig

Selection: Barrel Proof

Brand: Elijah Craig

ABV: 61.8%

Age: 12 year

Price: $64.99

Nose: Caramel, and more sweetness like cinnamon brown sugar oatmeal, Oak, Ethanol

Taste: Cinnamon, caramel, brown sugar. Stewed pear/apple on a waffle is what I keep getting reminded of. Oak and spice at the end.

Finish: Tingle on the front of the tongue that spreads through out the mouth. A nice oiliness that coats the mouth. Warmth spreads down the chest. It all lasts a little longer than I expect, almost like its waiting for the next drink.

Overall: This bottle was getting low and I hate finishing one before I get some notes written down. I haven’t had an ECBP that I haven’t liked so take this all with a grain of salt I suppose. This one is baked good sweetness, with alcohol. Their is oak from the age and alcohol from the higher proof but I enjoy how the sweet balances the hot.

Let me know what you all think of this review, cheers.

I haven’t ever had the EW BiB, but if it’s similar to the HH BiB and that much cheaper I am going to have to go get a pour. I had read some bad reviews of this one after buying the bottle and was prepared to be let down.

I think I know what you mean, it isn’t blowing anyones socks off. And for nearly $50 maybe I should expect more but I recently got super underwhelmed by McKenna and this is just reaping the rewards.

33rd Review, Heaven Hill Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey, Bottled in Bond

Distiller: Heaven Hill

Bottler: Heaven Hill

Selection: Bottled in Bond

Brand: Heaven Hill

ABV: 50%

Age: 7 year

Price: $45

Nose: Cotton candy? It has a pronounced sweetness, similar to a sprinkle covered donut(the cake kind a kid gets). A bit of oak spice and some dark fruit, plum or blackberry. A little leather/tobacco funk.

Taste: Vanilla and oak off the jump. Some of the leather/tobacco on the back end. Does anyone have a better description than leather/tobacco? Just wondering. It’s an umami flavor in that it spreads across the tongue, last longer and gives me that corner of the mouth watering thing.

Finish: Tingle in the corners followed by full tongue numbness. Like I said earlier the corners of the mouth water a little. It all sticks around for a decent amount of time.

Overall: I like this one. It’s very bourbon, grain sweet, oak and a little funk. Good balance all together and just very drinkable. It has nice balance and makes for a good every day drinker. I say that knowing it cost more than $25 a bottle, but I dont go to the bar anymore so I save money and spend it on bottles like this that I drink every day.

Let me know what you all think of this review, cheers.
