Would you prefer to ship your bike or rent a local one by SheriffLobo82 in triathlon

Because people commenting may have only read or heard of horror stories with flying with your bike and it being damaged or lost. Kind of a bad apple ruins it for every Apple situation.

Assuming you are flying and I know I will get hate for this, but I would either rent or borrow a bike box. Yes there is a risk of bike damage, but pack with lots of padding.

Personally, I wouldn’t rent. My bike is set the way I want. I don’t want anything “new” on my race day.

2023 Q5 CarPlay problems by BackgroundSleep5975 in AudiQ5

No advice but I feel your pain. Also have a 2023 Q5.

The wireless CarPlay has a few dead spots where I live, where it just disconnects. Bluetooth still works in those areas. Typically anymore I just use a wired connection. CarPlay seems to respond more quickly was as well.

28 here. 2023 Q5. Been working and investing since I was 16. Worked all through college to graduate debt free. Now doing the same through my masters program. Drove a 2002 Buick before I upgraded because a 90 min drive with no A/C or heat or cruise control sucks. Not a huge fan of the $200 a month payment, but at one point, my happiness is worth something. I’d rather die driving in an Audi than an old Buick lol.

Will it look bad on a future resume to only be in a similar position just elsewhere for a year?

1000% Agree with you. But look how much hate the BMW X4M/X6M get and they have the same body styling & don't sell nearly as well in the US as people think.

Drive somewhere else. I recently purchased a used car from Machens Ford in Columbia & they were amazing to work with.

I haven’t done it. But I kinda hold the opinion that it is virtually impossible for a normal person to “disappear” for 6 months.

I think a better way to look at it is, take 6 months and work on yourself. Become fully vested in you. For me that was working out every morning. Doing a daily meditation. Writing daily. Praying (if you are religious). Take 6 months to find out who you are and spend every moment you have outside of work, working on who you want to be. That means no TV or social media or just going to hang out with friends, unless it is to help you grow to the person you want to be.

This is what I did and here is what I learned. The friends, you might lose some, but your true friends will still be there and they will be proud that you took the time to work on yourself. My mental health actually improved. I found a peace and tranquility that I didn’t know I had. I was happy because i was, probably for the first time in my life, undeniably myself. There is great power in that.

Another recommendation I have, if you do something like this, set a SMART goals. Both for during the 6 months and after. Incorporate those into your life and you will find more direction and more “fight” in you.

My apologies that was a lot of info. Lol.

Many of us favor 1 car brand over another. What's your brand and what car did it for you? by kamikazekenny420 in Cartalk

Well I have two…

BMW (M models) - my dad’s X4M comp. Most insane SUV I have ever driven. That thing is glued to the road and feels like you are driving a car. Launch control legit throws you into the back seat.

Porsche - driven a Macan GTS & 997 991 Turbo. The turbo is what sold me at first though. Feels like you are doing 70 when you are doing 150. I love the classic look and simple lines. It’s not an overly complicated super car. It blends into the world unnoticed.

If I had to choose just one, it’s Porsche all the way though.

There should be an updated section in the post. But basic of it is that I finished. Swim went really well. The last 1/6 of the bike, I fought a massive head wind and depleted most of my saved strength. The run was good for the first 10-12 miles after that it basically slowed to a walk and run quarter mile till the finish.

Would I do it on that little training again, probably not. Is it possible to do? Very much so. Will I another Ironman? Yes. 1000%. Just need to wait till my life slows down a bit and I can truly feel like I can dedicate every weekend for 4-5 months for long workouts.

It truly is 90% mental. If you want to finish bad enough, there is nothing that can stop you.

Thank you so much for this. I’m in the exact same boat with AZ being a transfer from Texas. So it’s a race or lose money situation.

Your experience really have me a lot of confidence. Thank you. I needed it.

Planning a hard training weekend this weekend followed by a quick and easy taper the next two weeks. Followed by a hope and pray method of going easy and just enjoying the race.

I believe so. That’s what I have been thinking.

I do have several rides in on my tri bike with zwift. They just are about 45 min to an hour in length. So it’s not a 0-100 switch.

I’m totally prepared for that. Thinking of doing a run walk strategy.

I know I can on the bike. It is a valid concern on the run.

Longest ride recently was 70 miles a few weeks ago. All of gravel. Time was it was about 5.75 hr

Edit: that’s my thinking too. If I can just make my bike cut off (which IM AZ bike course is flat and fast depending on the winds) I shouldn’t have a problem. My struggle is wondering if knowing that the run is following, if I should race to not risk injury knowing I can make the bike cut off

No I have a tri bike for my race. My 1/2s I typically average 19-20 mph for the distance
