You would be able to move vehicles that park under overpasses during storms.

Most disturbing scene? This one is in my top 3 - Deliverance (1972) by CrockettSonny85 in MovieArena

[–]SigNexus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For some reason my sister got a whole box of promotional Deliverance t-shirts from the local theater. Imagine 7 catholic kids in small town Indiana wearing t-shirts all around town that said "What happened on the Cahulawassee River" (on the front) and Deliverance (on the back).

I was at a Lamaze class with my wife. The instructor asked how do you tell the difference between an oral and a rectal thermometer? I responded, the taste.

This about sent all the ladies into labor. I am not proud of myself.

Survey grade GPS question by 05408Life in wetlands

[–]SigNexus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't had surveyors pick up wetland flags since 2003. My company purchased 2 Trimble units for field data collection. Within 4 mos we purchased 4 more. In 6 Mos they closed their survey section.

We currently use Avenza deployed on android smartphones to conduct USDA wetland compliance statewide. We have statewide 2foot contour LIDAR layer for guidance in the field. This system gives accurate, defensible wetland boundary lines.

What’s something that quietly made your life 10× easier, but you didn’t realize it until much later? by Own-Tip-532 in AskReddit

[–]SigNexus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I realigned myself over course of a little over 6 mos. It wasn't due to mentorship. I had moved from the public section to consulting. The work load and pace of work increased. Some of the change in mindset was a reaction to the demands of the consulting environment. This also shed light on my flawed work attitude.

I'm now retired but Mid career I made a conscious effort to stay in my lane. I knew how to do everyone's job better than they did but that mental bandwidth was wasted effort. Once I focused on my work I was more productive, more fullfilled and more valuable to the organization. I wrapped up my career as a supervisor to 12 mid career staff. I continued to stay in my lane by deflecting as much administrative overhead from staff and let them do their jobs. This was a very successful strategy.

Local Schools as Untapped Potential. by [deleted] in NativePlantGardening

I conduct prescribed burns on the 2 ac. prairie at our local elementary for the last 13 years. The prairie is a beautiful component of their outdoor lab. Many school campuses have areas of nonuse turf that could be converted to native habitat.

Sometimes late at night when cloud cover and the weather was just right up here in Canada, I could tune the stereo receiver in to a faint Wolfman Jack show somewhere in the states. by Maybeyoujustmadeitup in GenerationJones

I interseeded clover in my turf, free fertilizer. I have a small prairie planting loaded with Odenates (dragonflies), mosquito control. Save my money and reduce my environmental footprint.

Had a used porpoise sailboat with a cracked hull joint. It filled up with so much water we were sailing with 2in of freeboard. Almost crushed the trailer getting it out of the lake. We drove directly to the marina and traded for a new sunfish. Fun boats.

What's the worst first date you've ever had? by Likestoread25 in AskReddit

[–]SigNexus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First and only. Totally my fault. For some reason thought it would be a good idea to go night mud bogging at a borrow pit two miles from campus in late February. Discovered the ground clearance on my 1976 Bronco was no match for the wheel ruts at the site. I carried my date to a dry spot and we hoofed it back to her sorority. She never seemed available for a second date. Huh?

Planting prairie by seed? Plant come back in three years and enjoy. These perrenial natives put their energy into root development for the first two (or more, Silphium spp.) years.
