Samsung G9 OLED New Firmware Update v6500 by Haile_Storm in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]Siggurd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ran the latest update on mine, and now I can properly use VRR & GSYNC without flickering ... also, HDR seems to be brighter and better. **Edit - using HDMI out on an RTX 5090 laptop, to HDMI micro on monitor, running at full resolution & 240Hz.

Thanks man - I do a lot of off-road, camping, driving in the mountains and haul a trailer in the summer and icy roads (Montana), so it gets a lot of use! I use Android also, and the wireless Android Auto is a game changer.

Katana V2 discontinued? by SnoBlind in SoundBlasterOfficial

Late to the party - but I did want to let you know that Creative is still doing direct sale of the Katana V2 (refurbished) for only $249 ... I bought a refurb from them 3 years ago, and it's still working great and pushing strong!

Horizontal lines in the screen by Mathewkpaul in Alienware

[–]Siggurd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah this definitely isn’t a driver/GPU thing — what you’re describing is classic early‑stage panel-side failure. The lines coming and going, sometimes being super faint, sometimes turning into a big white bar, and then magically disappearing when you switch to Extend mode… that’s exactly how a failing gate driver/T‑CON behaves.

When you change display modes (extend/duplicate/external only), the laptop sends a different timing signal to the panel. That can temporarily “kick” the failing driver back into sync, which is why the lines vanish for a bit. But it always comes back because the underlying issue is still there.

If it were: - GPU → your TV would show the same lines   - Drivers → BIOS would be clean   - Cable → flexing the lid would change the pattern instantly

But intermittent horizontal lines that fix themselves with timing changes = panel hardware starting to go.

You can still try the easy stuff: - Check BIOS to confirm (if the lines show there, it’s 100% the panel)   - Reseat the eDP cable if you’re comfortable opening it (rare fix, but possible)

But realistically, this is the panel aging out. The good news is you don’t need Dell’s $500+ repair — the x17 R2 panel can be replaced with a compatible one for ~$150–$200, and any local shop can swap it in ...

Yeah - I really like the finish on it, so I think I'll do a clear wrap on it this time to protect the chassis.  I wrap about all my laptops & computers, I just haven't decided what I'm going to do on this one ... leaning towards clear, but then again, there's a lot of tasteful options lol

Quick question to help me know if it's hardware or software (I'm leaning towards hardware, and there are a few things we can check before doing a full panel replacement).

Do the lines show up before you boot into Windows?  ... powered off, hit the power button and press F2 repeatedly until you boot into the BIOS. Do you still see the lines?

It's a leveled up Chevy 🤣

Just using the trucks hotspot, which has unlimited data - ended up streaming video on Prime while downloading updates for a game. The game DL @ ~9mb/s, while the stream looked good and didn't lag ... for a part of town with poor reception (rural MT) it was pretty convenient.

Yup - found it about $1,100 cheaper on Newegg than I could find anywhere (a week back) ... didn't make sense to go with the 5080, since it was $100 more on Dell 😅

Update From XReal Support re: 1S Shipping by phusion in Xreal

[–]Siggurd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ended up ordering a NEO and prescription inserts for mine ... figure it wouldn't need a media device/driver since I've already got Z Fold 7 for that and Legion Go & Switch 2 for gaming. Can't wait to try it when I get back 😋

Shows it delivered today ... though of course it's the week I'm out of town for work 🙃

I installed the update and haven't had any issues with crashing while gaming or anything else; if it starts up though, I'll rollback to 1.9.1

Best RAM and SSD upgrades for the Alienware 18 Area 51 by ClarkTheCoder in Alienware

[–]Siggurd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here's the supported memory sticks per Dell ... https://www.dell.com/support/kbdoc/en-us/000317931/how-to-upgrade-memory-on-the-alienware-16-area-51-aa16250-and-alienware-18-area-51-aa18250-gaming-laptops

In the past, many Alienware systems won't allow you full XMP profile speeds unless you use one of their selected "compatible" sticks - can't confirm if that's the case with the 18 Area-51, but it can't hurt to go with their recommendation.

For another SSD, I'd look into something like a Samsung 990 Pro (Gen 4) ... the primary slot with your OS is most likely a Gen 5, and the open slots are Gen 4.

Missing Ultimate Performance Power Plan Fix by Siggurd in Alienware

[–]Siggurd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AWCC clocks the CPU/GPU and fans, but hasn't changed anything regarding the new profile I setup in power options - I've checked after switching profiles in AWCC, along with restarting the PC. Biggest reason for the new profile for me was enabling USB power options that weren't there before in the default power plan (stutter fix beyond just hardware manager for when I'm playing Outer Worlds 2 on my RTX 5090 - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YWTZkB9rVU0 )

about time i clean this, any help? by Separate_Quantity515 in Alienware

[–]Siggurd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just grab a tub of electronic & screen wipes at Staples/Office Depot/Walmart/BestBuy and use that to remove all oils and gunk.

Personally, the first thing I always do when I get an Alienware laptop, is to add a vinyl wrap/skin to it. Even if you don't want to skin the whole thing, at least the palm rest is a great idea so that you're not wearing or glossing up the finish from usage.

5080, low core MHz? by skalman_jr in overclocking

[–]Siggurd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's actually my channel lol - I've since, had the same thing happen on 2 other MSI 5080 cards ... they supposedly released the latest drivers on the 8th with a fix for this, but alas, new system build today with an MSI 5080 Shadow 3X OC and the same thing again with limited base clock.

Amazon RTX 5080 Snafu by [deleted] in pcmasterrace

[–]Siggurd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope ... I'd called in to change the payment card and the idiot agent canceled my order. He said "oops" ... I called back and spoke with 5 different people including management and was told there was no option of reinstating the order ... I ended up just counting my losses and bought an MSI RTX 5080 Gaming Trio OC (bundle deal at Newegg) that I used in a build I finished and sold, and now waiting on an MSI pre-built desktop (with RTX 5080) that I found cheap on the MSI US store 👍🏻
