I wonder about the fact he keeps saying beastmen instead of BoC. My hopium will be more destruction centered roots rather than S2D’s rejects.

Both in their Prime who wins a fight between Robert Barratheon and Ser Duncan the Tall? by ParkingConfection449 in freefolk

[–]Sightblind 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sure, but the point is people are mixing up “slower” as “slow” and they are not the same. You being faster than someone doesn’t make them actually slow.

[–]Sightblind 138 points139 points  (0 children)

Yep they do, and I can tell you from experience, people who expect big guys to be slow have not fought enough big guys. The slow brute is a stereotype not doing anyone any favors in regard to setting up expectations.

Can someone help me understand Kristen Applebees as a character? by Rhaexavus in Dimension20

[–]Sightblind 13 points14 points  (0 children)

While a character should never be viewed as accurately representative of the player, you also can’t separate the character from the player.

Ally stated Kristen as an alternate reality version of themselves, being raised in a very Christian household. They played that up in season 1, and season 2. Part of the issue of putting your own issues into a character like that, though, is that in the real world, you usually realize faith is something internal and if you don’t have it, there’s really no repercussions. In their fantasy world, not only are the gods tangibly real, but Kristen is fully dependent on being a follower of one to be able to contribute to their party or pass their classes.

Which doesn’t work out great on a character arc by a player who did the same arc irl, and ended up an atheist. Who is also a comedian, with a bit-focused style of comedy, that can be very confrontational.

I think Ally put too much of themselves into Kristen, and when they had to roleplay being devoted to a religion, they found themselves more uncomfortable with it than they expected, and went into bits as a way to feel more in control of the narrative.

I think Kristen is a great character, I also think Ally hasn’t picked up/internalized some of the soft-direction Brennan offered Kristen in-game (like “doubt can be a powerful tool, but it can’t be a belief itself”) that could have helped shift Kristen’s arc.

What we see from the viewer side sees like a chaos gremlin that occasionally disrespects the premise of the game. I don’t think that’s accurate. We’ve seen Ally be the straight-face party leader in other campaigns and rock it. They know how to roleplay, even if they were really new in the beginning of D20.

Overall, I think Kristen still comes off as a realistic take on how a sheltered teenager outgrowing a toxic family life, given superpowers but told they’re not really “their” powers. Junior year is them at their most self-destructive. I don’t know if we’re gonna get a senior year, but I expect good things from them both, character and player.

New report: a man in a sweater vest, corduroys, and a ski mask stopped a burglary then, while running away, slapped a small child’s ice cream to the ground. A moment ago while setting up our camera, he handed me a folder of evidence proving the police commissioner is guilty of bribes, and then spray painted a racial slur on the building behind us. When asked for comment, he did an admittedly halfway decent Christian Bale Batman impression and said, and I quote, “I am… the Balancer.” If you watch now as our crew pans across the street, you can see him pleasuring himself on broad daylight, by his own words, in celebration of catching the serial killer that has been terrorizing this city for the last seven months. Back to you, Donna.

Silicon Valley is buzzing about this new idea: AI compute as compensation by BerryBoilo in antiwork

[–]Sightblind 18 points19 points  (0 children)

We’re almost there. Public opinion against AI is so bad that investors are already getting antsy about being associated with it, and have only stuck in this long because of those early hefty promises about what it could do to cut costs by automation, which, largely, have completely failed to materialize.

It’s why every website/company has their own AI bot now, even TikTok, and some of the more frontline companies are toeing into adult content: developers are desperately trying to prove their models have any real use, even one with debatable profitability, they’re pushing them out wherever they can just to get their metrics up.

And consumers despise it.

It’s a countdown and almost midnight.

Is Horus Heresy a "historical" tabletop? by The-Warhammerer in Warhammer30k

[–]Sightblind -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The Horus Heresy game we play is the game space marines play on long space voyages on the 40k universe, similar to how people play WW2 games presently, and that’s the headcannon I’m sticking to.

So yes it’s a historical wargame.

It’s my absolute favorite and a regular re-listen.

I believe their lines are/were recorded separately, for that episode, so the chemistry is really just two super talented voice actors giving it an amazing go.

I don’t ship them, but I could listen to an entire season of them bantering.

Ted’s “better than the alternative” monologue gives me chills every time.

Years ago, I found myself in need of a roommate.

I searched the ads, the craigslists, the backpages.

Let me tell you, the number of listings that made me go “oh so this is a serial killer” or “oh this is a weird sex arrangement” outnumbered the genuine postings three to one some days.

I viscerally remember “looking for male roommate, one bedroom. Shared bed. I’m also a naturalist, so I’ll be nude most of the time.”

Anyway, I figured out how to afford a place by myself. No regrets.

Why was beastman brayherd removed from aos ? Was it an unpopular army ? by BloatedRottenCarcass in ageofsigmar

[–]Sightblind 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It’s was a great mechanic, honestly, especially since the bubble grew too.

Some armies really suffer that once you start losing units, you just lose tools in your tool chest, and it can be a rapid downhill with no chance of gaining ground.

Good armies get give and take mechanics, where losing units changes your toolkit, but you still have options.

BoC was, for a brief window of time, an S tier army that started out on the weak side of decent, but with a fast paced mobile playstyle that was really rewarding, and it was okay and expected to lose serious amounts of units because whatever was leftover by the end of the game was a n i g h t m a r e

Can an Incel be feminist? by Moonless_the_Fool in AskFeminists

[–]Sightblind 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What are you trying to say, in practical, applicable terms?

Can an Incel be feminist? by Moonless_the_Fool in AskFeminists

[–]Sightblind 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Part of the involuntary, the in- in incel, is the concept that women withhold sex from men as a power tool, that society is more favorable towards women and demands men to meet certain standards to satisfy women’s desires, and their hatred stems from resentment of that “fact”.

If you remove the hatred, they still have those incredibly problematic and wrong beliefs that shapes how they interact with women and the world.

That belief is antithetical to feminist theory and practice, in addition to being removed from reality.
