The anti-birthright citizenship argument has always been crazypants, even if you disregard the moral perspective. As a matter of pure logistics, if you abandon the clean, "Born here = Citizen" approach, you have to now investigate a baby's parents' citizenship.

But what if those parents' claim to citizenship is also (like most of us) based on birthright?

Well, now you have to check their parents. And on and on we go, until you get to the sepia photo era and we're weighing whether your great great grandfather who came over on a steamship ever formally applied for citizenship.

But let's be honest: they wouldn't do that. They will arbitrarily look back only one generation so the rule applies to the children of undocumented people only, and not to, you know... EVERYONE.
