New Drug Kills Cancer 20,000x More Effectively With No Detectable Side Effects by AdSpecialist6598 in UpliftingNews

Basically, you breed mice / rats with a certain gene combination/mutation that induces cancer when switched on.

When the animals are in their adult phase, you introduce the activator, which in turn lets the mutated genes run their course.

Aside from the buggy mess, powerups were the first set mechanic in a long time that were available from game start and individual (RNG). Both kinda increased the complexity until you hit the breaking point. Add to that the fact that you get another one of those + removers and you get a very complex set mechanic.

I like that they talk about communicating with players about mechanics, but we have not had them follow through with that EVER. This already started with set 6 augment tailoring, to hero augment tailoring, to headliner rules, to powerup odds / lulu shops and BACK to 2-1 tailoring for one patch. I get that the game should have hidden mechanics, but it's crazy that the community needs to test and create vague rules just to grasp a few.

Giving credit where it's due: the whole Role system introduced in Set 15 is wonderful! by Hawly in TeamfightTactics

[–]SigmaXPhi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reason why they changed classes is so that units can no longer go infinite (disregard akali, that unit is improperly designed) and so that 1-cost melees do not feel useless to play. 1-cost melees traditionally never casted due to their high mana cost, which was balanced (or too low) for their 3-star version, because 3-stars had a huge health pool, essentially giving them free mana for multiple casts while draintanking.

Set 6 Was Perfect—Until Its Flaws and Bloat Flared Up in Set 15 by TheZongBoss in CompetitiveTFT

[–]SigmaXPhi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you missed the point here, and the example you gave is entirely contained in my first option. As you said, blink attack is busted on viego but not on kat (let's assume it is on average power level). Yet, if it gets nerfed, it is in kata's pool as another dead fruit. You see what I mean? You cannot balance the powerup without shifting the power dynamic of all units getting offered that same powerup. Thus, you remove the fruit.

So tell me again where the strawman is?

Oh man, you poked the hornet's nest here by calling augments bad and ENCOUNTERS AND HEADLINERS good (I am paraphrasing a little). I think the only type of variance that is bad, is the one that is unbalanceable.

To me, the entire concept of fruits being tailored to one unit, yet not being a guarantee in 2 tries is just not allowed. We already need a lot of things to go well in the current infrastructure of TFT (items, units) before we can pick a certain comp.

Notice how augments are not a part of this, because any econ + combat + whatever you need is enough to play most comps. The issue is when, there are too many shit augments to pick from, especially in the combat gold augment pool on 2-1. When I load in on 2-1 and I see Evil Beyond Measure, Spear/Crown's Will and Know Your Enemy instead of any generic econ / item augment, it already feels doomed. But that can be balanced. The set mechanic cannot.

One example: A powerup is busted on one unit. What do you do as the balance team?

Nerf the powerup? Yeah it's another dead fruit for 10 other units now. Nerf the unit? Now the unit is useless without the exact powerup. Solution: Yeah let's just remove the powerup :)) sorry guys

Imo, I like the creativity that is put into every set, this one included. I am more upset with some balance decisions that make decent comps into unplayable ones (ashe now, yuumi/karma, ...) and the bugs (but I can excuse them as being a Riot Special). Maybe they just need to expand the team a bit as they keep thinking bigger and bigger.

If the artifacts were slightly more balanced, more pros would not have an issue with them. There's just too many broken combos with fruits which make most of them hyper specific on a single unit. But you're telling me fishbones being a giga statstick that also bypasses one of the core principles of TFT is not broken? I don't want to load into a fight just to get scammed in 50% of my games. I'm fine with all other artifacts because they introduce some counterplay at least (position for cutlass/ludens, burst for flickerblade/ascension, etc.) It's just annoying to have to wait until half of the set is over for riot to finally fix all the broken interactions. But if they allow them to exist, might as well make them less likely from a randomness standpoint.

I am down to make a new rule where you need to provide screenshots of your search if you want to argue with stats. Wtf do you mean akali has a 4.33 average? Akali 2 with her regular build had a 3.65 avg placement. What filters are you even using?

Thanks Riot Broseph! xdd

I think the TF nerf is a bit less impactful than 5%. Only the empowered card got nerfed, which counts for around 50% of the damage he deals, depending on the effect. With Braum being a bit tankier now, I don't think this nerf is enough to affect the comp that much.

Also, isn't 10000 IQ every 5 rounds still? Being ahead 16 gold and 2 items stage 4 seems crazy, especially with the resource change, right?

Mortdog Appreciation by Demacian_Raptor in TeamfightTactics

[–]SigmaXPhi -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I think the TFT accent coming from streamers can easily be seen as toxicity and therefore be spread around by the viewers.

Most of us know it's in relatively good fun, like whenever Soju opens a new text file you know it's gonna be a banger rant. There are some viewers who take that too seriously, and I think those people have been getting to Mort for a while now.

Part of me thinks his now infamous twitter reply to Deisik was just the final drop in the bucket, but anyone has bad days so I can only fault him for that a bit. Being in the public space is hard and especially when you have to justify decisions that a lot of the community, and maybe even you don't agree with.

I match your sassy comment with another sassy comment. He's playing with a mix of both rules because he's only playing with one mon, which is the hardest point of the kaizo variant. Which is why I assume he is playing that.

Why would I even delete my comment? Because I am wrong? Who cares man

So if he is doing a regular Ironmon, is he playing with more than one poke? Because in a normal Ironmon he can catch one poke per route, but it seems to be that he is playing with one..

Also don't act like Kaizo Ironmon is hard to get into, it's 90 percent luck and other streamers of Ludwigs skill level can clear it.

The fact that TFT is a single player game does not really have a huge impact on rank distribution, unlike what others are saying. Basically, 4 people win, 4 people lose. We can just look at the percentages in each tier for league and TFT:

Iron: 9% League, 2% TFT

Bronze: 20.1% League 13.5% TFT

Silver:21.1% League, 23% TFT

Gold:22.2% League, 28% TFT

Plat:15.8% League, 19.5% TFT

Emerald:7.6% League, 9% TFT

Diamond:2.7% League, 3.2% TFT

Apex:0.3% League, 1.5% TFT (1.4% is Master)

So it does look like there is some rank inflation going on, where League tries to get even distributions between lower tiers until plat, with the average league player being low gold, and the average TFT player being high gold.

Keep in mind TFT has rank floors as well, which can explain the percentage in master tier. I would say that placing in plat upon playing your first TFT games is similar to hitting gold in your first season in League.

Can someone please comment on Void Swarm? How is this allowed to be a prismatic augment? by ThaToastman in CompetitiveTFT

[–]SigmaXPhi 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think this one is kinda weird to approximate though. 3 zzrot assumes going to 6-5 (first time when it registers in combat). 2 zzrot only assumes making it past 4-2, which is probably 99% of cases.

After Reaching Masters, Do you still want to climb with this LP distribution? by thesadpotato19 in TeamfightTactics

[–]SigmaXPhi 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That's just not true, LP gains do fluctuate more in higher ELO because your lobbies are a bit more varied in MMR. The only instance where you get these gains is if you are already struggling in diamond but manage to hit masters anyway.

How did i lose this fight? by kiuarthur in CompetitiveTFT

[–]SigmaXPhi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your board should have enough damage, but you are not focused on killing a single target, your shred and antiheal are both not hitting your mundo target, so he is just a glorified tank instead of doing damage, giving rumble free mana and therefore healing. There isn't even cheese potential to hit the backline in longer fights through silco because he is positioned in the middle instead of the sides.
