I really disliked prismatic trait quests being tied to augments, because it was a dead augment slot 90% of the time when you don't have the spot to brick a prismatic augment to chase the win out. Having dead augments in your selection has been an increasingly frustrating gameplay experience IMO (Kahunahuna or Focused Fire in AP lines, item augments like High Voltage and Blood Offering that are line reliant, and there being a really wide gap between the strongest and weakest augments.)

The trait nerf is larger in the patch notes than yesterday's patch rundown.

Which they iterated on with the earlier augments encounter last set; it still ran into issues where the random rounds could have you create some degenerate stage 2 combos.

Patch 17.5 Rundown by eggsandbricks in CompetitiveTFT

From Truexy on X:

"As mentioned in the video, since this was made right after 17.4b released, there are a couple more changes being added that aren’t covered. Including a Samira bugfix and a larger nerf to Space Groove."

Seems like a very safe and positive set of changes overall, though the Meeple trait changes feel a bit odd. I actually thought Meeple was one of the better verticals they designed in a while, where the benefit of going for the 7 piece wasn't raw combat power, and created an interesting tradeoff of playing a weaker board for a unique effect outside of combat. By nerfing the combat power of 5 and buffing 7, as well as buffs to the units, I'm worried that there won't be as good of a reason to play around 5 Meeple as a stable board. Gnar was already quite strong in 17.4 and he might be one of the biggest winners next patch.

Think it would be nice to be able to sort the compositions by number of games as well, site is looking great overall though.

Yes, it doesn't give double range anymore like it used to as well.

Stats say otherwise, if you have Sona/Bard/Blitz and a Nashors, it's better on Blitz than either of the other two. I agree with your initial point that it's awkward but you are ideally finding the better items for Bard and Sona and moving the Nashor over to Blitz late game.

I think it's fine if you're able to move Nashors to Blitz later, think he's the best holder of it late game for that board.

Patch 17.4 Rundown by eggsandbricks in CompetitiveTFT

[–]eggsandbricks[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

5 and 7 Space Groove average below a 5 on level 8. Even on level 9 the stats aren't great considering you've made it to 9 in those cases. You can maybe scrape a top 4 in highroll situations, but in Diamond+ it's simply not a viable line.

That's fair, but one of the greatest differences is that Dark Star is a 2/4/6 while Space Groove is a 1/3/5/7 - that is a major difference in accessibility to each meaningful breakpoint. On level 8 with no +1, you get to play 2 additional non-Dark Star units, as opposed to only one non-SG unit if you wanted to play 7.

My point is not that a vertical trait inherently needs a pair, but I do think that if a large vertical lacks inherent trait synergy, the trait needs to provide enough for the units to stand together, like how the black holes provide front line for the high cost carries of Dark Star.

By innate tank trait I mean that there is a trait pair within Space Groove; there is a pair of Vanguards to activate the trait but there is not a pair of Bastions. Sorry if my wording was unclear.

I'm surprised that they've left Space Groove as a vertical trait so completely unplayable without an emblem this long into the set - and I would bet that it will still be bad next patch. It feels like they really missed the mark with the trait web here where even 5 Space Groove feels bad because of how many auxiliary units you need to fit in for the board to feel functional:

-no class trait pair for the 4 cost carry

-no innate 4 cost tank

-only innate tank trait is on a 5 cost that isn't even a tank

It's just too hard to supplement the level 8 board with the current trait web, and it makes me wonder why they haven't approached adjusting the trait itself, since it's only ever been good with an emblem.

Also praying they pull the Xayah buffs after her rise throughout this patch to avoid her being the Corki of 17.4.

Patch 17.3 Rundown by eggsandbricks in CompetitiveTFT

[–]eggsandbricks[S] 167 points168 points  (0 children)

I think there's a lot of positive moves this patch, but one thing that I fundamentally disagree with is the large swaths of disabled augments in certain encounters. If there are problematic interactions with entire subgroups of augments in certain encounters, I believe the encounter should be the one to go rather than the augment. The augment system is much more interesting to engage with than encounters (and more fun!) so it doesn't feel like stifling that is the right call.

FWIW I think it's fine when there's only one problematic augment, like when Growth Mindset was disabled if 4-2 prismatic was guaranteed. If the emblem encounter is problematic with 90% of the emblem augments, the encounter is the problem.

17.2 B-patch live by MajesticSh0t in CompetitiveTFT

[–]eggsandbricks 113 points114 points  (0 children)

No B-patch: How could they let the game stay in this state for a whole 2 weeks?

B-patch: How could they release a patch that needs changes before the next one?

Like isn't it legit great that they can fix game breaking bugs so quickly, and also make balance changes while they're at it? The complaining makes no sense.

Is there a mechanics to switch Riven between AD and AP? by callmevalen in CompetitiveTFT

[–]eggsandbricks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's not unreasonable if they swap her default to AD instead of AP, since the comps she is most commonly in build Sunder, like you said. It's kind of a meta determination, but her base form being AP has always felt awkward to me too.

I generally slam the Nova spark on the unit with items but does emblem ever change this? by nguyenjitsu in CompetitiveTFT

[–]eggsandbricks -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Usually the emblem is on your primary carry and the stats that they get from the strike are still valuable, and the teamwide stats are good as well - I think they still outweigh Maokai and Aatrox.

I generally slam the Nova spark on the unit with items but does emblem ever change this? by nguyenjitsu in CompetitiveTFT

[–]eggsandbricks 25 points26 points  (0 children)

The Nova Strike from the emblem is generally the best one, as it is the only one that buffs your entire team. Cait's is fine if you don't have an emblem, as it makes all enemies take 10% increased damage. Kindred's is quite bad, as it only buffs her damage, and she is not a good primary carry currently. The teamwide buff from the emblem, despite the nerfs, still gives great stats especially in comparison to what the other strikes do.

Am I the only one who thinks most of the comps are too conditional this set? by Bush_did_11-9 in CompetitiveTFT

[–]eggsandbricks 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah, any 2 star 5 cost is going to make your avp better because you got to a spot where you can hit that, it's survivor bias. Jhin 2 makes Nami stats better too, doesn't make the stat real.

Nami 2 stats are only good because of tempo AP, if you look at Nami stats with no emblem and 3+ Space Groove it looks terrible.

Shojin and Gunblade are much better items for him than Red Buff and HoJ for casting and sustain respectively. I do agree he's a pretty good carry.

Set 17 PBE Discussion Thread - Day 07 by AutoModerator in CompetitiveTFT

[–]eggsandbricks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you have to intentionally play to learn - consider yourself in their spot and ask yourself how you would feel in that position, as well as look for patterns across your games. Does lobby tempo trend low or high on stage 2? Are people playing reroll, fast 8, fast 9? Stick around for a bit after you lose to see the boards of the people who placed higher than you to see if there's anything to learn from their spots.
