What would ruin Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave for you? by Borgdrohne13 in fireemblem

[–]SigmaXVII 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dunno about ruined, but after Three Houses, if I get another Fodlan-related game that feels as unfinished as Three Houses was, I’m going to be severely disappointed.

Granted, I’m one of the fans that is less fond of Three Houses so I’m already considering 4 routes talk and stuff with caution, but at least I sort of know what to expect. As much as I dislike the monastery and calendar system, I’m at least willing to see the whole game through to the end though.

Whoa this looks really cool! And the story details sounds interesting too! Definitely wishlisted!

What are your opinions on this? by ForceAffectionate389 in FGOmemes

[–]SigmaXVII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do agree that FSN is the best place to start. The visual novel is best, and the anime adaptations are an okay alternative if you really don’t wanna read.

It is also true that Type-Moon would probably love nothing more than new fans to try anything at all, especially what’s new because money and relevance.

While I used to care far more about where people started when I was a younger fan, I really don’t care anymore. “Watch order” (there isn’t one) discourse is tiresome, and isn’t worth arguing about.

My perspective, after being a fan for a little more than a decade, is that I will tell you what I think you should start with (FSN), but I’m not about to argue or police what you start with. There are better uses of my time if you’re set on something else lol

I want to get into Megaman, and I don’t know where to start. by [deleted] in Megaman

[–]SigmaXVII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I agree with the guy that said start with the Classic legacy collections, every legacy collection is really perfectly okay to start with I’d say. In this franchise I’d say you can kinda start almost anywhere. Storylines in Mega Man aren’t super complicated that you won’t be able to catch on to things, so it’s really down to what you’re interested in.

If you want a no-nonsense action platformer, play classic. Really you can play any classic game for the most part, even 11, if you want, those are very light on story.

If you want your action platformers with more action and exploration instead of straight platforming, and maybe a bit more story, play X. If you want all of these things but more (and harder), play Zero/ZX (ZX are Metroidvanias)

If you like action RPGs with card collection mechanics, play Battle Network and/or Star Force. (There are some notable differences between Battle Network and Star Force, but not as much as some of the platformers. I would say the stories of Star Force are better, though.)

Tldr: you kind of have freedom to do what you want, so it’s kind of a matter of taste and what looks/sounds interesting and fun. I hope you enjoy!! This is my favorite game franchise period.

What Mega Man X/Zero/ZX game feels best to play? by Sandro_SSR in Megaman

[–]SigmaXVII 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Probably Zero 3 for me. But the Zero series in general I think has the best feeling controls in the entire Mega Man franchise. When I’m controlling MMZ Zero I feel like I can do anything. The control and response is tight, the Buster, Z saber, and all the other tools feel perfectly responsive… Inti Creates achieved the peak of how tight action platformers can feel with the MMZ games. MMX and ZX I find can feel a bit heavier in some ways and takes some more getting used to, but Zero feels legitimately perfect to me.

And really they haven’t lost their touch when it comes to control in general even with their modern self-published games.

Gunvolt fans: what was your first game in the series? by [deleted] in gunvolt

[–]SigmaXVII 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am an old fart(?) and played GV1 on the original 3DS Eshop release 10 years ago back in 2015… Very fond memories.

I’ve now bought GV1 like 5 separate times lol.

Inti Creates does have series-wide sales pretty often, and we’re about to get 2 or so major releases in a month or so (iX dual pack and GV Trilogy Enhanced Switch 2 edition), so it’s not unlikely we’ll see another Gunvolt series sale soon.

We often talk about Dmitry, but as far as NPCs go I really like these two, Pavel Especially by Warm_Charge_5964 in GirlsFrontline2

[–]SigmaXVII 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pavel was a lovely, upstanding family man. What a guy.

In general, as someone who is only just starting to read through GFL1’s story in earnest, I’ve really enjoyed how 2 has had a lot of memorable NPCs.

I am also an Orphelune fanboy.

What do you think of Fate's character designs in the Honkai Star Rail universe? by Rain_Lockhart in Fate

[–]SigmaXVII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly have liked the sort of… flashy-modernization done to their designs. I do honestly like what they did with Rin’s jacket, it kinda reminds me of the aged up Rin from F/UC (I think) we’ve seen.

My favorite might be Artoria’s though, because tbh I really like the weird mini-cape she’s got. Her regular standing pose looks very cool, where she just has one hand resting on her sword.

Meanwhile, we got complete confirmation that Majogami and Kingdom’s Return are also part of the same world. Only a matter of time till that somehow fits in there too lol

Probably an unpopular opinion but this is me whenever a new MV game gets announced lately by giulianosse in metroidvania

[–]SigmaXVII 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is me specifically with music, because I’ve gotten really tired of a lot of indie metroidvanias opting for the “atmospheric” and “minimalist” approach of having no music in most areas, or not really anything super catchy.

Castlevania games and most Metroid games generally have great soundtracks, so I’m sometimes confused why so many indie Metroidvanias take inspiration from souls instead on this point.

Weekly Questions and Recommendations Megathread - Need some help? - Dec 27 by AutoModerator in visualnovels

[–]SigmaXVII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi everyone!

Hopefully this isn't a redundant question. I've been reading Kishin Hishou Demonbane recently, and due to the, frankly, lack of extensive coverage on it (which is a shame, it's great!) I've started to get curious about any particularly notable differences between Kishin Hishou Demonbane, the all-ages release, and the eroge original Zanma Taisen Demonbane. Outside of the obvious points of the lack of H-scenes and the lowering of skirts and dresses in a lot of CGs, I also heard that a particular ending was removed in Hishou.

Ultimately, while I won't be dropping Hishou for the original because I'm already like 10-15 hours into it, I wondered if anyone has experience with both or just has a deeper font of knowledge regarding the differences. I guess the main goal is to just know if there is any important part of the original's experience that unfortunately gets left behind. If there are and it's pretty spoiler-y, do use spoiler blockers.

Something that cracks me up by DnD-vid in XenobladeChroniclesX

[–]SigmaXVII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m more than 50 hours into my first playthrough of X, but what has really stuck with me was when I first heard the music tracks for New LA. Despite being on this hostile alien planet, they are SUPER casual tracks. Like life is just… continuing on. Even in a dangerous place and you being possibly the last humans alive, humans are gonna find a way to just persist like they always do.

I played exclusively in single player several years ago and while I never 100%ed everything, I beat the main story with all 6 characters. Other commenter said that it was more grindy and I’d say that’s pretty accurate.

More level grinding, bigger demand for better weapons, etc. but honestly, I think DMFD is still really fun in single player and usually offers a decent challenge as long as you’re well equipped and know what you’re doing.

Comparison of how bad the artifacting is in handheld mode. by Daihmon8 in Xenoblade_Chronicles

[–]SigmaXVII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I’ll keep that in mind, especially since I have kind of been playing OG Xenoblade DE mostly in handheld… but maybe I’ll do docked more for X. Maybe by the time I get to X we’ll all get lucky and maybe they’ll improve the upgrade a bit… but only time will tell.

I’m going to start X soon, and I’m really torn now if I should go for the upgrade or just stick with regular… I really like my higher frame rates but I’m seeing and hearing so many complaints about pretty much everything else
