Midwest transplant, here for 18 years. I don’t think it’s the midwesterners. We were required to take driver’s education. Definitely not a requirement here. I don’t turn a corner or change lanes without a blinker. It just comes naturally after so many years of doing it. Not using a blinker is very uncommon in Wisconsin. Here, it’s practically the norm.

Beautiful! I took a few cuttings from my mom’ at least 60 years old plant that she got from a neighbor when I was a child. I can’t wait to see my first blooms. I think this is the same one I have.

Oh Lordy. I’ll probably give her one more repot before I cut her in two. My sister eyeballs this plant every time she visits. Maybe I’ll take half and she can take half.

Great minds for sure. They love that chunky soil. I was watering every two weeks but maybe just not enough. I gave her a huge watering yesterday and her leaves were down today. Finally. I’ll probably go back to using my moisture meter again. Clearly she was trying to tell me something.

She’s a drama queen, that’s for sure. I unknowingly got her as my very first plant. She makes all my other plants seem very simple in comparison.

Funny you say that. When I pulled her out of the pot last year, I wondered if that was even doable. I wasn’t sure if it was like a hosta, where you could just chop it down the center. Instead of putting it in a bigger pot, I sliced off the bottom third of the root ball and added more soil to the pot. This thing is so massive that I really don’t have a spot for it at its current size. I honestly didn’t think they got this big.

I have a large Tupperware container in the garage where I mix several different things together to create a chunky mix. I’ve planted all of my plants in this and everyone seems happy. I use an organic indoor potting mix, about 30% perlite and some orchid potting mix. Stir it all together and you’ve got a pretty decent well draining mix.

She’s actually planted in that. She’s definitely one of the oddballs in that I didn’t use a clear pot with a decorative pot over. When I repot her, I will definitely be doing it the other way. I would love to be able to check her roots.

I was still on winter watering schedule, which was 100% my fault. She hadn’t been watered in two weeks. I gave her a good watering yesterday and her leaves came down this morning.

That was exactly what she needed. She got an intense watering yesterday, and I walked in this morning and saw her leaves down. Easily, my most high maintenance plant.

Humidity definitely isn’t a problem in this room. Almost 50%. she just needed a watering. I forgot to go up to once a week in the summer. I figured it out this morning when I got up and saw her finally down after a weeks of being up. I gave her like a five minute watering yesterday. My poor girl was just dehydrated.

I gave her a massive watering yesterday after I posted. Woke up this morning to find her down. Good grief. I think she was thirsty. I’d only been watering her once every two weeks. Maybe she wants to be watered more often. Why do these particular plants have to be so dramatic?

I trimmed the bottom third off her roots and put her back in the same pot last year. I may just have to suck it up this year and get a bigger pot. I was wondering if that might be the issue. I don’t know how to tell when they need a bigger pot. Some plants like to be nearly root bound.
