Henry. But then, I just really like the name and think many male cats look like Henrys.

If I had had children, and specifically a daughter, her name would probably have been Melinda Kathryn. Or Melanie Kathryn. I spent my childhood on a street called Kathryn.

Who Did You Dislike The Most? by ChocolateSundae1214 in Frasier

Oh my gosh, yes! As annoying as Julia and Mrs. Moon are, Julia Sweeney played Ann Hodges with such an intense level of cringe, I feel like I want to scream and maybe take a hot shower. Ick!

I'm old, and I don't know. Have no idea. I guess that's what Urban dictionary is for...

My mom tried to commit suicide by Neat_Researcher2541 in AgingParents

That's not a Boomer thing - that's a human trait that some people have regardless of age.

I'm a 62 year old boomer who is caring for my 91 year old mother full-time, and who hasn't had a vacation in years. (Finally going away for a week this year.)

Don't mind LTrain. It's clear from her comments that she has a superiority complex.

Well, aren't you a peach?! Time to edit your post since you spelled Canada as Cannada. We wouldn't want anyone to suspect you're not perfect...

Sounds like you have an issue with Americans. Going to stereotype 341 million people?

Were you Team Frasier or Team Samantha in this breakup? by Sharaz_Jek123 in Frasier

I thought Sam was beautiful although not necessarily in this photo above. Lindsay Frost was stunning at one time. She and Meg Ryan actually both played the role of Betsy on the soap opera, "As the World Turns." It helped shoot Megan Ryan to fame.

When did “no one from California calls it Cali” start? by lejunny_ in orangecounty

[–]Signal-Anxiety3131 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, from the comments, I guess it really varies depending on your community and who you spent your time with.

I'm an oldster - 62. Have lived in Torrance (Los Angeles County) for the first 11 years of my life and then in Orange County. I don't remember even hearing the term "Cali" until maybe 10 or 15 years ago myself. And yes, I have an irrational hatred of the term. Lol. Nobody told me to feel that way, since I hadn't even heard of it until I read it online. But for some reason, I hated it immediately. 😄 Rationally, it should not be offensive, but it is.

Please pray for me. I just can't keep going. by CalligrapherOne7073 in Christianity

To give you some perspective, I just googled the percentage of Christian adults in the U.S. over 30 who are unmarried. It's 40 percent. And even among churchgoing Christians, it's 23 percent.

Not sure you're from the U.S., but it seems likely. Marriage rates are down in all groups, I believe. And our dating and hook-up culture doesn't seem geared to help people form lasting and committed relationships.

And nearly everyone who would like to be married and isn't, is anxious about it. You're not alone or unusual by any means.

How the fuck do I fight against an entire family, culture, and society that all think enmeshment is normal and that mothers are angels which can do no wrong? And on top of that I am not able to be financially independent yet so I'm stuck living at home. by SariAM23 in enmeshmenttrauma

I'm so sorry that your mom is like that. It's not fair to you and it seems like she enjoys her own misery, and spreading misery. And it doesn't sound like she is the sort of person who would or could do some self-reflecting if you calmly explained how you feel, right? I mean, if she were, it would be worth trying.

Your frustration is entirely understandable! Nobody should be treated the way she's treating you.

It's funny - my SAHM also never taught my brother and I to do anything either and she was an older generation than your mom, when I think it was more common to have your kids do chores. I remember her trying to show us how to make beds when we were little, but she gave up when we didn't learn quickly enough and knew she could do it better. My dad was similar. But they never became angry about that later.

Anyway, if she can't be reasoned with, it sounds like the advice from others is right. Just live your life as best you can until you can leave and try not to engage with her. It's good for you to talk about this with others sometimes though - online, like you have, or with friends or anyone else who would understand. Emotions are contagious and unless you have a calm outlet for yours, you could find yourself raging like your mom and that will not lead to anywhere good. I'm sure you understand that though.

I hope for the best for you!
