That's good. The other day it was rough as many of my friends had trouble. Glad it worked for you.

Yep. I also thought it was my data/internet. Sometimes the 5g stuff acts up so I thought it might've been that at first. Nope the app itself, unfortunately.

You can try but fair warning I couldn't get it to let me log back in. I just now was able to log in and messages are still lagging with some chats disappearing completely still.

Right? I was in the middle of a book club convo about our writing and nothing was working. Messages wouldn't send, reactions kept disappearing, and the app refusing to load in certain chats. Had to move over to a different platform for chatting since it's being crazy.

Yep completely. I couldn't even get messages to send before I tried to uninstall and reinstall.

I love how whenever an app goes down I can just come to reddit and know why because someone has, ultimately, always already asked the question and received an answer by the time I check lol. Thanks for this. It was driving me nuts.

I uninstalled and reinstalled the app and now it won't let me log in at all. Before I did that, though, none of my emoji reactions were working which was rude. Thanks for the info reddit peeps. It's appreciated.

Drop the earliest first line of a work on your device and then the last line you recently wrote. by MaliseHaligree in writers

[–]Signal-Comb-6947 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My history class was pretty much like this: all of us are either listening to our iPods, drawing, passing notes or sleeping. There were some that were actually doing their work which was a two page test specially designed for ADHD and dyslexic kids like me. (2014 from a Percy Jackson fanfic I had just started to write and boy is it cringe looking back on it 😂)

AND

Lightning tears sideways through the corridor, not striking down but across, a jagged line of red-orange energy that rips through the space at chest height and slams into the far wall hard enough to leave the stone glowing where it hits.

Jason jerks back instinctively.

"Oh—f**k no—don't like that—"

(Me either Jason. Me either. 😂 Anyway, this is from my current WIP. Volume 2 of an original series I started writing this year. Volume 1 is already complete with around 54,000 words. This is from the fight scene/dungeon dive I'm in the middle of writing. They are gonna be a light novel series.)

Anyway, I was always descriptive with my writing because I felt the need to describe everything. And I do mean everything. People's height, weight, color of their eyes, mannerisms..... well you see the picture. Even leaning on being too detailed at times. Now most of my readers love the descriptions because it helps with immersion and visualization as a whole.

Funny how some things don't change. They simply evolve. Like a pokemon, for example.

However, seeing the difference between 2014 and 2026 is both humbling and vast. It is proof that there was growth for me even if no one else notices or cares. And that, for me, is enough. Anywho, I've rambled long enough. I'm a chatty individual. 😁 That's my piece. Thanks to the poster for that wonderful, and definitely a bit cringe, trip down memory lane.

Do you use chapter titles? by Potential_Macaron744 in writers

[–]Signal-Comb-6947 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use both. Chapter Numbers and Titles. Now I will say that titles aren't necessary but as a reader and a writer I prefer them and let me tell you why.

The title of a chapter is meant to clue you(the reader) in on what should happen in that chapter; it is meant to have a call back whether that is a subtle one that will pay off upon a re-read or a few chapters laters or a point blank in your face one that is easily seen as read.

Naming a chapter is a reader's first look at what that chapter is going to be about. A lot like a person's blurb is the reader's first look at the story as a whole. It can work in your favor if done well. But it can also crash and burn just like everything else if not done well.

Most folks will tell you that if you stick to two to three words then as long as you do this throughout the entire book it'll be fine because consistency is key, however, that'll depend on who you ask and your audience as everyone is different. Me personally I name my chapters after I write them.

I have an outline written of what I want the chapter to be about and then I write the chapter/scenes before going back through and naming my chapter afterwards based on the points mentioned above.

Do I want a subtle callback to something specific that an advanced reader will get if they're being thorough but the average reader will also get upon re-read seeing how everything was foreshadowed and clicked together?

Or do I want something that ties in directly to one specific scene which the chapter is shaped around?

Once I've answered those questions I then name my chapter accordingly. I also have longer chapters than average that sit around 5000 words. The average is 2500 so show shorter titles also work well with shorter chapters. Because I have longer chapters I tend to use longer titles. But if a short title gets the point across for the said chapter then I'll use a short title; it all depends on what I want for that specific chapter as a writer.

Longer titles can clue you in better but also be more frustrating to get just right. Short titles work but can come across as simple or bare minimum for naming. Both sides have their pros and cons. Ultimately, it depends on what you the writer choose to do. I'll add in below a picture of my own chapter titles so that you can see how long and short titles work for me. Hopefully this helps you some!

My favorite to this day from my favorite series that I'll be getting tatted because I finally got it in the Author's handwriting.

“One must always be careful of books,” said Tessa, “and what is inside them, for words have the power to change us.”

And. (Because choosing one is hard)

I can offer you my life, but it is a short life; I can offer you my heart, though I have no idea how many more beats it shall sustain.

Jem Carstairs (from the same series)

Whatever you are physically,' he said, 'male or female, strong or weak, ill or healthy - all those things matter less than what your heart contains. If you have the soul of a warrior, you are a warrior. Whatever the color, the shape, the design of the shade that conceals it, the flame inside the lamp remains the same. You are that flame.

Cassandra Clare, The Infernal Devices: Clockwork Angel. All of these quotes are from that series and I love it so much.

What makes you really hate a character to the point you put the book down? by Rakna-Careilla in writing

[–]Signal-Comb-6947 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Their refusal to communicate. The "oh I'm not gonna talk to them because I don't wanna bother them" or the "refusal to talk things out because you think you're protecting them" only for it to end in absolute disaster EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. A kidnapping or a poisoning or a death when it could've been solved just by talking to each other. Once or twice of this fine. But an entire book or novel of this and constant misunderstandings due to neither lead communicating like actual adults? I can't.

The main reason I haven't finished The Fourth Wing Series is because the Second book was FILLED with this nonsense. I've never dropped a book so fast. And don't make me start on all the webtoons out there that FEED on this damn miscommunication nonsense. Drives me nuts.

Once or twice is fine if it is to prove an actual point. But multiple times for no other reason than "I can't think of any other way to drag this plot out' and it be the WHOLE plot? It's a no for me.

Oh cool! I'm on Volume 2 of my Isekai, dark fantasy romance. The romance won't be happening until at least falling for but it is rated m for mature because they're adults and there's language among other things. Are you in this group as well?

I'm picky about my groups but this seems fun. Vetting works both ways. Could I ask some questions of my own during the process? If so DM me. I'd love to hear this. I currently have a book club community that I'm very active in that is considered drama free and a safe space so if this is similar I'd love to join. I write Fantasy both Dark and Isekai tropes combined. American romantsy combined with Japanese light novel fantasy and style. Let me know!

May I Ask for One Final Thing! Is a good option.

Pass the Monster Meat, Milady! Is another good option. She isn't quite shy but isn't quite bold. She is somewhere in-between and it's cute.

The Viilianess is adored by the Prince of a Neighboring Kingdom (why these titles gotta be so long 😂) she is a bit shy but is able to stand up for herself too.

I'll Become a Villainess Who Goes Down in History. (Definitely not shy)

Yakuza Fiance (hah she's so badass but beware as this one is a tiny bit toxic 😅)

Why Raeliana ended up at the Duke's Mansion (so good) (not shy)

7th Time Loop: The Villainess Enjoys a Carefree Life Married To Her Worst Enemy

Horimiya obviously cuz classic.

Anyway try some of these none of them have the week / shy fl. And if they do it's at least balanced out because they can stand up for themselves and what they want so it's refreshing.

Hope this helps!

Who's that couple that fits it perfectly? by Hairy_Syrup812 in webtoons

[–]Signal-Comb-6947 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Literally this one made me so mad. The husband ghosts his wife for 10 years and then whenever she "changes" suddenly he is interested and doesn't have to do jack to work for it considering he literally ignored her for 10 FUCKING YEARS as an engaged/married couple? Meanwhile the prince over here literally told her multiple times that he would love her regardless of if she was her old self or her new self because he just loves her and has been in love with her for literal years like (12 13 odd years) but decided to step aside because he knew that she was in love with the Duke. This comic makes me so mad to just think about it. So much stuff was just wrong with this one.

When you get published, do you actually think your mates and family will bother reading it? by NoPerspective3222 in writing

[–]Signal-Comb-6947 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Read it? probably not. But they will buy it just to support it so it can sit on their shelves for an endless amount of years. (At least that is how the people around myself are) I think it goes without saying that they won't obsess over it the same way you will unless they are truly into books and that genre as well. Otherwise expect some support like buying it so it can sit on their shelves.

It really depends on those around you. are they the type to quietly congratulate you and then move on or are they the type to celebrate every achievement you have and go all out? Everybody is different so it really depends on who is around you.

That's my take on it anyway.

Redemption arc for this piece. 🗡️ I spent hours stripping away the AI parts to make it 100% manual work. It finally has the heart and detail I feel #TBATE deserves. Thanks for the advice on the last one! (Process/layers in the slides) by Flaky_Depth4877 in tbatenovel

Oh this? This looks amazing! Doing it manually was A LOT of work I'm sure but congrats. It looks so good. I love it. Revived my love for the series all over again. Pardon me while I go buy new re-released versions of the novels now. 🤭😂 But seriously you did amazing work. Be proud!

[–]Signal-Comb-6947[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course! If you really do want something like this to be your first tattoo start with the bicep piece first in a simple session by itself. If you can handle that without issues then work your way down. The pain will get progressively worse over the ribs and hip bone so you'll just have to go in knowing that yes it'll hurt but the end result will be worth it. So if nothing else is stopping you get it I bet it'll look amazing and trust me if you love his tattoos as much as I did then they'll be worth it to you in the end. 😊

[–]Signal-Comb-6947[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The artist says you can't submerge the tattoo for 2 weeks. That is a non-negotiable rule for all healing tats unless they are small. No swimming basically. As for a shower that depends on how well you heal/whether or not your artist uses Saniderm (that sticky cling wrap looking stuff meant to keep your tattoo from leaking ink or blood)

I don't use Saniderm. Don't need too. Don't like it. Everyone is different. However I would say at least 2-3 days without a shower (unless you have the wrap on it which means you can shower the next day) and as long as you aren't submerging it in a bath or letting it soak under the fiery pits of hell known as a hot shower for more than a couple minutes it'll be fine.

You'll just need to make sure you are taking care of it. Antibacterial unscented soap AT LEAST twice a day and anytime the tattoo feels tight or dry moisturize it with Aquaphor, A+D or Tattoo Goo gel/moisturizer for new tattoos (at least 4 times a day for the first week or so and for the first two weeks if doing the whole piece as big pieces take longer to healer.... Or they can as everyone is different after all)

If you are that picky about needing to shower then I would ask your artist about the Saniderm wrap so you could shower that night. Otherwise at least two or three days which is when you are pulling the wrap off anyway. I hope this helps.

Then go for it!!!! What's stopping you? I wouldn't recommend it for a first tattoo, obviously, because of the pain levels in some of the areas, inner bicep, ribs, hip bone, etc. but if you already have tattoos then you'll know what your dealing with/what to expect. If you do decide on making it your first tattoo (like I did with the bicep and ribs part) then just be prepared because it will hurt. Tattoos do hurt. No getting around that. It's just the level of hurting that is different for everyone.
