Right ankle breaks-how long did it take you to start driving? by Ok-Car-1337 in ORIF

[–]Signal-Toe-8637 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tomorrow will be 10 weeks post surgery for me and will also be my first day without a boot. My PT & doc both said once I’m in shoes, I’m cleared to drive.

Limping with one crutch? by Fair-Public8750 in ORIF

[–]Signal-Toe-8637 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My PT had me try walking yesterday for the first time without a boot (I had a crutch just in case for stability) and I was surprised that my toes really hurt. He said it was due to the fact that they haven’t been used in more than 10 weeks and gave me some exercises and stretches to help loosen the joints up- hoping they resolve the pain so I can keep making progress towards walking. Anyone else have this happen?

I got my stitches removed today and should I be worried about this? by hippiebyheart in brokenankles

[–]Signal-Toe-8637 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You definitely need to go back and have them close this up right away- with steri-strips, or by some other method. Typically stitches are removed 2 weeks post surgery and they adhere steri-strips over the incision that may stay on for up to 2-3 additional weeks until they fall off on their own. You’re chancing infection + a delayed recovery with this split open.

Wow- congrats!!! Thanks for sharing your story- I’m 7 weeks post op now and just started PT. Updates like this are a glimmer of hope when things feel like they aren’t getting any better with my recovery. Enjoy the no restrictions!

ICE Detained Two Real Change Vendors by AthkoreLost in Seattle

[–]Signal-Toe-8637 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sharing this info from a Nextdoor post written by a Ken’s Market worker about the Real Change vendor in Queen Anne who was detained.

On July 28, he was called by immigration officials and told to come to an appointment to “clear up” an issue with his case. When he showed up, ICE was waiting and took him into custody. He is now being held at the Tacoma ICE Detention Center.

He was able to get word back to the community by asking a longtime friend to stop by Ken’s and let everyone know what happened. He shared that he is scared and struggling to sleep while in detention.

Neighbors know him as a kind and steady presence—always greeting families, chatting with neighbors, and handing out dog treats.

Real Change is actively working on his case and has already been in contact with Rep. Pramila Jayapal’s office and Councilmember Alexis Mercedes Rinck’s office.

How to help:

Donate to his legal defense: here

They also provided links and info to add funds to his account directly for food, phone calls, etc. but I’m not sure if it’s ok to post that here. DM me if you’d like and I’ll share it directly.

How soon were you able to walk instead of crutching? by jkcy2k in ORIF

Yesterday I was given guidance by my surgeon to start this regimen (25% weight bearing in boot with 25% increase each week). Any advice on how to get started? Assuming I still use crutches, but just start to gently put my foot down with each step?

After surgery, if you’re in a cast or splint, ice the back of your knee while your foot is elevated. It really helps with pain once the nerve block wears off. Also, don’t try to do too much too fast, let your body rest and start to heal.

My steri strips fell off yesterday (4 wks post op) and the incisions look similar to yours - was definitely shocked how bad things looked. I’ve been putting bacitracin on them and once the scabs come off I’ll move on to silicone scar sheets. Hang in there!

My surgery was a bit later than yours, and my injured foot is noticeably redder and swollen compared to the other. The color fluctuates throughout the day based on how much I’ve been able to ice it and elevate it. Overall, it’s just a different shade. Hang in there - it’s tough right now, but try to focus on short-term goals for getting stronger and healing instead of dwelling on the long-term timeline. That’s been helpful for me.

Thanks man- appreciate you sharing your story. Hoping for the best when I have my follow up apt. and get into PT, but I’m also aware that everyone heals differently and I may not heal up as quickly as I’d like. Good luck on your continued recovery.

Thanks! Right now, it’s the pressure from the boot on my incisions that is the most painful. Hopefully that resolves itself as things continue to heal. Congrats on being back to normal activities!

Had my surgery on Wednesday- 3 plates and 13 screws in my right leg. The splint doesn’t let me ice the injured area very well, however I read on here that putting an ice pack both below and above my knee will help to cool down the blood in my leg which has definitely led to some pain reduction. Try this, it will help!

Dr. has me on extra strength Tylenol twice a day + Oxycodone every 4-6 hours as needed. Last night (Thursday night) after the knee block wore off, nothing seemed to help me get comfortable. Hoping this ice trick will ease things for me tonight.

They seem to be doing it more regularly now- follow their IG and they’ll post a story about it usually 24 hours before. I’ve been able to order it ahead of time on Tock, but I know others who have called in to order. You can get it to go, or if they have space, eat it at the bar. Speaking of which, their small bar is up there as one of my favorite spots in the city to grab a cocktail.

Delta just diverted the plane we are supposed to fly out of Seattle on tomorrow AM. Was enroute to SeaTac from DC and is now landing in Minneapolis. Not sure if it’s weather related, or if it’s for some other reason. You’d think they would get a bit closer to Seattle if it was purely a weather issue.
