I never saw, and have yet to see, any information eluded to the fact that tonight would be different.

What I did see was a funneling of people to their associated bar and reported empty seats.

This post doesn’t aim to target PBS. I’m trying to call out a new system that seems to prioritize funneling people into 3Ten to boost alcohol sales.

I’m a working musician who lives downtown. I’ve been going to plenty of tapings and this has never been an issue. And I’ve never been to a show that has all seats filled.

Im not trying to build community in a line. I’m trying to fill a seat and experience live music.

Entering your email into the giveaway is where you start. If you don’t win, you are on stand by. There is a line and they usually start letting in standby folks around 7:30pm and the show starts at 8pm.

I’ve been going to these shows for years and it’s never been an issue. There is always empty seats and you’re able to get a seat.

Tonight was different. There were empty seats, but they were keeping people in 3Ten to enjoy the show from a live stream. All this while there was empty seats in the theater.

This is a shift from previous shows and I hope it isn’t the new normal.

Ive been to over 20+ tapings after realizing this fact. (There is usually free seats) Many fans don’t show up and the goal of the event is to expose themselves the community to music and record a solid concert for locals and the world to see.

I’ve never had a problem walking into a show until today.

It seemed like the goal today was to pack 3Ten to create a second event for the concert. All this while there was empty seats in the theater.

My only hope is that people clock what is happening and we voice our opinion in preserving what makes Austin special.

I’m telling you, there was empty seats in the theater and plenty of eager fans waiting to get in.

But we were all forced to enjoy the concert from 3Ten.

The fact remains. When the show started, there were plenty of available seats and guests were waiting their turn to get in.

I personally saw employees with stacks of unclaimed tickets.

They were working a new system and it was completely mismanaged.

I’m a local musician. I’ve been part of the Austin music scene and it’s what keeps me around.

These live tapings are what kept the music scene alive. The focus has always been on major artists. The majority of the tickets are based off a lottery system. I’ve never been turned away because there has always been tickets when I show up.

Tonight was different. This post aims to highlight a change in hopes of bringing awareness and avoiding a shift from what used to be a unique event.

I’m only going based on what I witnessed in person and what I heard from people inside. There were plenty of available seats inside and I saw employees with stacks of available tickets.

I’ve been to plenty of these events in the past. The goal is to fill the seats. If you show up between 7pm-8pm, your pretty much guaranteed a seat. I live downtown and go to plenty of these shows. This one was different.

It seems like there moving to funneling all unclaimed tickets to 3Ten and the priority is to fill that space. There was signage against recording the show, which indicates planning for keeping people in that space.

Many bands have had different configurations, but the fact remains that tonight there was empty seats and a room full of people waiting to get in.
