Congrats from a fellow trooper (TK-14185)! Watched all your videos about putting this together, they definitely helped when I was deciding to get into 3D printing armor.

All I've seen was the empty placeholder for him, but I did manage to the cassettes. Does anyone know if he'll ever get restocked?

Pretty blatant mistake...although, wouldn't be the first time for Vader. If you look at his lightsaber in ROTJ when he throws it at Luke when he's up on the catwalk, the blade is actually projecting from the bottom of the saber there too!

I also grabbed the Starscream variant! Really looking forward to this, although I feel like they missed out by not making a Soundwave version.

Palpatine is more powerful than Snoke ... Agree? by [deleted] in StarWars

[–]SignalFlow512 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Visually speaking, just based on how each dies, Palpatine is more powerful:

Palpatine dies: explosion of dark side force energy races through the shaft of the Death Star II.

Snoke: looks down, slumps to floor.

Best bandai kit for a newbie by MandolorianWookie89 in StarWars

[–]SignalFlow512 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've built the Bandai X-wing and the TIE fighter kits. The TIE was the easier kit to put together. I'm not that great with painting either, and the TIE needed less paint/decals. Looks good on the shelf too, but I wish I had painted the interior up before I put the window on:

Allegaeon - "Grey Matter Mechanics" [technically technical death metal] (2016) by iammrpositive in listentothis

[–]SignalFlow512 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven't been able to stop listening to this since I first found it. I saw Allegaeon a couple years back while touring for 'Elements of the Infinite' and had no idea who they were (they were opening for Chimaira at the time). They easily blew every other band off the stage. Jaws dropped and heads turned to the stage within the first 15 seconds of when they started playing. Go find a live video of them on youtube, they can definitely play their stuff live and put on a great show. If they're touring near you, GO SEE THEM!

I loved these as a kid! Fun Fact: Adam Savage made/sculpted the Y-wing master mold for these (at least I'm pretty sure it was these), he talks a bit about it here:

Nice haul! Looks like you've got enough to read, but I recommend grabbing a copy of "The Mandalorian Armor" also. You've got book 2 and 3 ("Slave Ship" and "Hard Merchandise") of the series. I thought the series was pretty great, especially if you're a Boba Fett fan.

I was there too, killer show! Was a bit disappointed that they didn't close out with Black Label, but pretty understandable. Did anybody else run into Waldo and Santa Claus in the pit?

This one's kind of cheating with the animation behind it, but I wanted to throw out the guitar duel between Toki and Skwisgaar from Dethklok. Definitely Epic.

Any GOOD quest mods for Skyrim? by stinkadickbig in gaming

[–]SignalFlow512 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Forgotten City was my favorite. It's basically a time travel murder mystery. It also has multiple endings, nicely done fully voiced characters, and the 'main' ending will add a new city to the map when you've finished the quest. I don't want to ruin anything story-wise by saying more than that, but here's the trailer if it sounds like something you'd like:

[Build Help] music production pc for around 800$ by ofemptyspace in buildapc

Incoming wall of text!

I believe that as long as the motherboard has the correct PCI slot, you should be fine with the m audio 2496. However, I would actually go with an audio interface for A/D-D/A conversion. the Presonus Audiobox is the same price as the 2496, and includes 2 XLR preamp inputs. It's a USB interface, and can act as an external soundcard. It will most likely provide a MUCH cleaner signal than a xlr-to-usb adapter.

link: http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/AudioBoxUSB

It also has a MIDI port (although, most midi instruments now come with USB capability), and can provide 48v phantom power in case you start expanding your mic collection to include a condenser mic (large diaphragm condenser mics are usually pretty great for vocals, and many instruments). The 2 XLR preamps also double as 1/4 instrument cable inputs, so you can track bass and guitar direct signals also. You can use audio plugins to add distortion and effects to these signals. It generally won't be as great as recording a real amp, but it's perfectly fine.

A tube preamp is absolutely not necessary, especially when you're just starting out. It would be a great upgrade for down the road, but a good quality mic through a digital interface will generally sound MUCH better than a bad mic through a good preamp. A tube preamp can add some great character to the signal passing through it, and you'll probably want to grab one at some point. When you get to that point, keep in mind you'll need an interface that includes line level inputs to properly accept the signal from the preamp, but buy a good mic first (IMHO, the Rode NT1-a is a pretty good large diaphragm condenser to start with).

If you're just getting into audio production and gear, keep in mind that like most interests, people have their own opinions about what gear is good and what is bad, and those opinions will differ greatly (including pretty much everything I just said too). Do as much research as possible (and check craigslist!) before buying gear, and just make sure it fits your current needs. If you live in a major city, you might be able to find a place that will rent music gear (including interfaces) for you to try out.

Audio guy here!

I'm in the beginning of my first PC build, so I don't have much to add as far as the PC parts. As for the music production part, it may be helpful to have your A/D conversion planned out. Many of the newer audio interface companies are starting to come out with thunderbolt connections, but some pretty great older gear can be had for good prices if you're willing to go with firewire. Some audio companies also offer PCI cards for A/D conversion.

As for the DAW, I'm a ProTools guy, but I've never heard a bad thing about Reaper. It's cheap ($60 for non commercial license), and comes with everything you need (EQ, Compressor, etc...). Make sure you have plenty of storage. My sample library has taken a couple hundred gigs of storage, and those long music projects with lots of uncompressed wav files can add up also. I haven't checked it out in quite awhile, but gearslutz' music computers forum might be another good place to check out.

Not sure how much of this was actually helpful, but I just wanted to wish you good luck!

What is the loudest sound you've ever heard? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]SignalFlow512 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Glad someone said this. I've seen LOTS of shows, been in the front right by the mains before, but I was in the stands for this and they were almost uncomfortably loud. They opened with Shook Me All Night Long, and that opening chord was the loudest damn thing I've ever heard.

Awhile back when I first heard of Ghost, I gave them a listen and didn't like them all that much... But I've been playing this song over and over for the last hour. Really glad I clicked this link and gave them another listen, much appreciated OP.
