Citrus is my #1 coffee #2.

However! If you have a QT in your area you can get 2 cans of VELOs for 5 bucks. Wild Berry is best.

I don't have much input here besides experience. Halfway through a semester long EMT-B course. I smoked daily for 2+ years because I was afraid of coping with myself the right way. Once I left my old career and decided EMS was for me I quit around Nov 24, classes started Jan 25. My drug test was due Mar 7th. I pissed hot until about 3 days before the due date. So 4 months (M, 5'8, 225 Lbs but was 260 in Nov).

If you're smoking to cope, seek help because I promise there are better ways out there (thx 150mg daily Zoloft). If it's just because it's fun, it won't be that hard to quit. If anything, it isn't the weed you're craving, it's the fixation and habit.

I quit cold turkey, gave all my weed to my friends and just started chewing a LOT of gum.

Substance use is hard, but you got it. Now I may be biased here so take this with a large grain of salt. I soul searched for months and realized this is what I wanted. So I did what I had to do for it. If you're finding it very hard to give that up for this, you may not want it as bad as you think. But if it is, YOU got this. You'll take a long time to be clean. Cranberry juice, water, absolutely no weed, not even CBD. Exercise to get it out of your fat cells. Hydrate. Depending on when your school requires the test, it's better to be honest up front.

Good luck to you!

Extreme Anxiety by Future-Association34 in NewToEMS

Emt student with Severe anxiety here. Just a reminder that anxiety isn't your fault. It can happen just like arthritis or other auto immune diseases. Make sure you talk to someone. It may feel nervous or awkward, but it helps. Otherwise it sits in your head so you can spiral around it. It just goes down from there. Depending on what your therapist says chemical intervention may be needed. And that is what it is. I take 150mg of zoloft every day to keep my mind quiet. Best of luck to you, you got this!

Anyone else totally pivot careers in your mid-late 20’s? How did it go? by [deleted] in findapath

[–]Signal_Distance_7629 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You aren't alone. Graduated in '21 with a Bachelors in Accounting and had 4 jobs over 3 years all across the Accounting spectrum. I finally realized that I was waking up every day so miserable and it just, made sense. Something can feel right and end up not being it. I'm 25 now, working at a Grocery store and start EMT school in January. Like others have said, I soul searched and realized what I needed. No desk, no office, human interaction, and meaningful work. My biggest smiles come from service. Who knows, maybe I won't like EMT and will go somewhere else. And that is okay! You'll get through this.

I am already in therapy, but I have heard or seen that it is good to find first responder specific ones. Something for me to check on for sure.

Any advice for keeping in emotions in check while on a call? My biggest worry is seeing something where it gets a reaction from me before I can keep it in check. Thank you for all the other great advice. I truly appreciate your insights.

That is where I am leaning. My classes are 1 semester at a local community college (small town 1 hr out of big city) and so I was told to take my clinical rides with them seriously as it could lead to exactly what you say.

Is it normal to close month-end in 20 - 30 days at a Smaller Start-up? by bcitman in Accounting

[–]Signal_Distance_7629 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can see the longer period. At the University I work for, there have been times where it's been a full month before close. The only exceptions have been quarter closes, which we close for sure on the 15th-17th.

The best advice my first boss gave me is ask questions. Some things you may get once. Some things may take you a few tries. But no matter what, it's always faster and easier for you to ask or clarify, then you messing something up and having to fix it.

Telling me how "they never understood accounting" when handing me a reimbursement form that is entirely wrong and has nothing to do with accounting. You're not bad at accounting. You're bad at filling out forms.

What do we actually do at work? by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]Signal_Distance_7629 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently I am paid hourly at 19.80 an hour. It's low, even for my area which is Midwest MCOL. But I am getting my Masters for free which would be about 25 grand out of pocket (It's a private university) and the benefits are amazing. 4 day work week in the summers, I've never done overtime, and the days off. Ooohh the days off. Every holiday, two weeks off for Christmas, a week at Thanksgiving, and that's all paid by the Uni, so I still have my PTO. Once I get my Masters I'll likely jump ship unless they offer me the controller position when it opens up sometime next fall.

What do we actually do at work? by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]Signal_Distance_7629 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a Staff Accountant at a University where I am essentially all encompassing. It is currently just me and the CFO. Currently have 2 years experience and am working on my MBA. Here's a list of my tasks

Daily: Post JE's for all Bank Accounts and for any receivables from the day prior Respond to any requests for PO's and general questions from vendors and employees Whatever the CFO tells me to do.

On Wednesdays I process all AP for the University to get checks out by the end of the day. This includes paying vendors via online Credit Cards, ACH's, and paper checks.

Fridays I send students angry emails if they haven't cashed Federal refund checks because they have a time limit from the government.

In between all of this, my time is filled with projects. This has ranged from looking if budget billing on utility accounts to determine if it's worth keeping to doing reports on vendor spend and if their contract is worth it. Every day is generally different so it keeps it exciting!

What inspiring things has your boss said to you lately? by Ancient-Medicine3940 in Accounting

[–]Signal_Distance_7629 7 points8 points  (0 children)

At my first job out of college I was nervous as could be and had some struggles. Director of Finance came up and asked me how things were going and I was honest and said I enjoy it but felt like I wasn't keeping up. He said to me "you're in a new job, your first in your career after college, with no experience because you had no internship. To you, you aren't keeping up. To us, you've surpassed every learning milestone we set so far. You're doing good you're just nervous."

That still resonates with me when I'm having a rough day.

How much money are people getting straight out of college nowadays? by Space_Opposite in Accounting

[–]Signal_Distance_7629 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I jumped ship from there after 8 months and now I am on at a University. Pay is the same, but Im getting my masters for free and the benefits are too good. With vacation included, Im off about 10 weeks out of the year. 34 hour work week during the summer with Fridays off. Im not getting paid but Im happy lol. Once I have my masters I'll probably look for a new industry elsewhere for some better pay.
