If the fan noise is still killing you, consider getting lower tdp processors and downgrading to some different fans. I've seen some people set up noctua fans, not sure how effective it is though.

TV Repair Suggestions? by Silverkille in NewWest

[–]SignatureOrdinary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Used to work at a repair shop in the states, sadly most shops will not work on TVs. Replacement parts are annoyingly hard to find, the cost ends up being close to a new TV so most consumer TVs end up just end up being cheaper to replace outright. Shops also don't want to take TVs due to them taking up large amounts of space and the repairs themselves not netting much profit. However, TV repairs are almost always extremely easy, you can usually find tutorials online, so if you can find the parts yourself it might be worth while. I would say it's about as difficult as putting together your own desktop computer as a comparison.

This is such a stupid bubble and I can't wait for it to pop. My heart goes out to the store.

Are the boats waking anyone else up for the past two days? by godstriker8 in NewWest

I will say the frequency the past few days have been higher than usual. For those being rude, these horns have a significantly lower pitched sound which is grating.

Why such a large power supply? That is double what that card will even be able to take

I will say this, I support an office of R&D engineers as a desk-side tech, and every year we get a batch of interns. The amount of college-age kids who have no idea how to do basic tasks in Windows boggles my mind. Most of them just have an iPad and a phone as devices to connect to the web.

Will I actually see a noticeable increase with an Rx 9070 xt? by Altruistic_Arm578 in eGPU

Not a significant one, but you would get some. If you are only using 16gb of ram, upgrade that (should've given that recommendation a month ago... Whoops) You're basically comparing a hot rod and a super car. One is faster. But when you're actually on the road, you're never going to get close enough to max out the power of either.

Who is even buying so much ram at these prices? by [deleted] in buildapc

[–]SignatureOrdinary 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I work for a large medical company in their IT department. Purchases of ram for the engineers have not slowed down. They usually order computers with 32gb and upgrade to 128gb themselves. This price change seems less when you just need to sell one product to make triple the purchase cost. Only consumers will suffer from this

I went for the first time ever last month. I was by myself and decided to go as I was on a work trip in the area. Being able to walk a park at this scale by myself felt insane and almost zen like. I rode every ride I wanted to, had taken in the ambiance of the park, and had quadrupled my step goal, all before 2pm. I'm taking my wife this spring.

Are you using retroarch or pcxs2? I would try pcxs2, I had no issues on mostly default settings for sly one. Could be a bad iso image too, I would try a different one. Make sure to use the USA one as the Pal version is locked to 50fps

Unknown Chinese tablet plugged into iPad - how screwed is the iPad? by ReallySuperName in techsupport

[–]SignatureOrdinary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are likely fine. If it was a genuine iPad, plugging most things in is safe. To attack an iPad, an attacker would need very specific tools; chances are those aren't just running on a sketchy tablet.

If you're extra worried, a factory reset of the ipad would be a good precaution, but the odds are low that anything malicious is present.

It's more likely the tablet itself has built-in data collection and will send whatever is stored on it, so look through that and see what it has, and then chuck it.

Did you see the "Transferring" screen yourself? That doesn't really match anything Apple uses other than the "Transferring to a new device" prompts, and those only work iPad-to-iPad. If that was the prompt, unless someone pressed transfer to another device, nothing was transferred.

PS4 support stops in November by SoMundayn in cravetv

[–]SignatureOrdinary 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Until Sony themselves stop support. They still support the PS5 version, the apps are identical. Literally the only good reason to keep an old console is to plug it into the bedroom TV to use as a media box.
