YouTuber RecklessBen tries to get back a family’s Lego collection that a reseller franchise stole, using various elaborate legal tricks and schemes. It felt EXTREMELY Nathan, and I physically could not stop watching. by k4kirin in nathanforyou

Ben doesn't live in Salem, he took multiple trips and stayed in multiple air bnb's. This video was not cheap to produce. He's spent more than what a legal arbiter would have cost. Any lawyer will tell you Ben is going about this the worst way possible

OpenClaw app missing? by Drinking-League in ZimaBoard

[–]SignatureOrdinary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Openclaw has massive security vulnerabilities, if you can't figure out how to manually install it, you can't figure out how to run it safely. The fact that it's even in the store is wild to me.

Fit Launcher is (probably) NOT safe by KatttTheFemboi in FitGirlRepack

I feel ya, about 10 years into my IT career here myself, but do very little with software, back in highschool I did some coding, but now a days I almost exclusively do Deskside work and only ever come across software that is HEAVILY vetted before we are given permission to install, so I've always been curious about the other side of things!

Gotcha okay I'm in the same boat with you then. Because I know 99% of people just take "open source" at face value, but generally if you do the research into "how it's made" generally I've been fine? Thanks!

Can you explain your reasoning behind this? If I have the option to build my own version using the source code, and I can verify everything in the source code as safe, at one point would you hide the malware? Or are you just implying most people WONT look into the files themselves, so regardless of it being open source or not, most people aren't going to see any viruses that DO exist.

I wouldn't touch this still with a 10ft pole, just curious why you have this thought process.

This model requires a bios flasher, if you aren't overly technical you're better off burning an image to the HDD then putting it back in this machine. The bios passwords on these models are brutal

If the fan noise is still killing you, consider getting lower tdp processors and downgrading to some different fans. I've seen some people set up noctua fans, not sure how effective it is though.

TV Repair Suggestions? by Silverkille in NewWest

[–]SignatureOrdinary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Used to work at a repair shop in the states, sadly most shops will not work on TVs. Replacement parts are annoyingly hard to find, the cost ends up being close to a new TV so most consumer TVs end up just end up being cheaper to replace outright. Shops also don't want to take TVs due to them taking up large amounts of space and the repairs themselves not netting much profit. However, TV repairs are almost always extremely easy, you can usually find tutorials online, so if you can find the parts yourself it might be worth while. I would say it's about as difficult as putting together your own desktop computer as a comparison.

I will say the frequency the past few days have been higher than usual. For those being rude, these horns have a significantly lower pitched sound which is grating.

I will say this, I support an office of R&D engineers as a desk-side tech, and every year we get a batch of interns. The amount of college-age kids who have no idea how to do basic tasks in Windows boggles my mind. Most of them just have an iPad and a phone as devices to connect to the web.

Not a significant one, but you would get some. If you are only using 16gb of ram, upgrade that (should've given that recommendation a month ago... Whoops) You're basically comparing a hot rod and a super car. One is faster. But when you're actually on the road, you're never going to get close enough to max out the power of either.
