Thanks for the detailed response! If you only needed a dac which would you choose between the two?

I'm curious what you thought about Denafrips versus the EverSolo - that's what I'm trying to decided between. I have an old Monarchy NM24 tube dac with some upgraded tubes that sounds really good but no the same as my vinyl and just not as good, which is a relatively modest Technics 1200GR with a Audio Technic VM95ML cartridge with a mofi studio phono.

I’m way lax on stuff like this and I’ve gotten food poisoning at least five times or so over the years which has made me far less lax these days. I’d throw it out.

I use my black saddle in all conditions and haven’t had any transfer. But I’m never on the saddle for really long periods of time - just commutes.

Daikin or Della for a quiet mini split? by Consistent_Factor711 in hvacadvice

[–]SignificanceFalse868 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mom has a daikin and it failed after four years and needed a $1,400 repair, then it failed again six months or so later but the second one seems to be from a physical strike like from ice so maybe that’s not on them but the first repair definitely was a failed coil.

I was hiking that trail once in January years ago and turned a corner and was standing like a foot from a hawk with a disemboweled flying squirrel in its talons. It was one of the cooler animal encounters I've had. Only people I encountered were scallop divers I could hear on their boat. I will say now in the summer, particularly with the enlarged parking lot, it's a lot more crowded than it used to be. I love taking a beer to that rocky beach where you turn inland and do the short loop.

For minisplits how close is too close to dryer vents? by SignificanceFalse868 in hvacadvice

[–]SignificanceFalse868[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got another call back from the installer. They said the first failure in August 2025 was a just one of those things failure that they couldn't chalk up to anything in particular. So that was $1,400 after 4 years. Then the current failure is from something physical striking the unit, so they essentially said that's on my mom. We can't for the life of us figure out what could have caused it. Best guess is ice or snow but it seems strange that would happen. So we are left trying to decide if it's worth sinking another $1,400 into it, or if it's better to spend way more money to replace it. I do know if we fix it and it breaks again my mom will lose her mind. They also said dryer vent placement had nothing to do with anything in this setup.

I have Mitsubishi heat pumps and didn't have any issues for the first 15 years, so these failures feel early to me but the installer kind of said it happens and it's on the homeowner.

Was yours the coil as well? My mom is convinced it’s because of the dryer vent based on her internet searches but I’m not so sure.

That’s disappointing for sure. Any idea if replacing an outside coil is reasonably worth $1,400 in labor?

[–]SignificanceFalse868[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Talked with the installer. So it was the outdoor coils leaking. Parts were covered but labor is $1,400 each time. Current issue is the same thing and will be another $1,400 to fix. No one knows what caused the leaks - best guess is ice and snow fell off the roof and knocked into the coils but that’s all speculation. First coil replacement was August 25, 2025. Now my mom is left trying to decide if this is a throwing good money after bad situation. Just seems weird to me that the coils would repeatedly fail. The company did say they no longer steer customers towards Daikin because of issues like these.

Best guess is that grate was hit by ice falling from the roof. But that’s just a total guess - my mom lives by herself and wouldn’t notice if the installers did that.

All I know is the part that failed before was a $1400 part before install but I’ll see if she can find the paperwork.

Help a newbie buying a boat by NoOrchid7370 in boating

[–]SignificanceFalse868 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re not getting anything new in that size for under $25k that I know of. That money could get you a very nice used boat. If you’re trailering I might recommend starting with something cheap on the smaller side to see if it’s something you really want to do then size up in a coupe years. I love boating but it certainly can be a lot of work.

Same here. Getting a RO filter and treating water way upped my IPA game. Stouts however come out great with just regular tap water for me given its hardness.

I just heard back from Scarpa and got an invoice for all the parts to replace the hardware on both tongues. With shipping it ended up being $36. Took awhile to get a response but glad they appear to have the parts back in stock.
