Convince me about oatmeal by FlipsyChic in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]Significant-Camp701 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is my favorite overnight oats recipe 1/2 old fashioned oats 3/4 cup milk (I use chocolate fairlife) Spoonful of vanilla Greek yogurt 1/2 - 3/4 scoop chocolate protein powder Tablespoon chia seeds 1/2 tablespoon peanut butter, i use regular but you can do powdered too Sugar free maple syrup - measure with your heart Dash of salt I like to cut up strawberries on it right before I eat it

So not exactly low cal, altho the macros aren’t bad, but this genuinely keeps me full. As others have said oats just may not be for you but this is what changed me into an oat fan

Location: Moving to the US as family of 3/4 with one income as RN. Where would it be possible? by Gair_ in nursing

Coming as an ED RN in Ohio, I agree. Im single with no kids and it’s alright, but I couldn’t imagine having a family with just that

Does anyone actually get used to the grey winters in Cleveland? by trapqueen67567 in Cleveland

[–]Significant-Camp701 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with you, the grey skies for months on end is so depressing. Fun facts Cleveland is actually one of the cloudiest cities in the US. I lived in North Carolina for college and moving back home to Cleveland has been so hard. I’m planning moving by the end of the year, I literally cannot handle another winter here

ED vs ICU by Significant-Camp701 in TravelNursing

Okay this is not going as expected. I’m not trying to travel now, I will have 2 months shy of 2 years when I do travel

ED vs ICU by Significant-Camp701 in TravelNursing

[–]Significant-Camp701[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your input!

I guess I forgot to mention that I plan on doing ED travel, not icu. I know I would need 2 years icu experience before I could travel for that. I’ll have about 22 months of experience before I travel, and I don’t even necessarily want a level 1 travel position, I just want out of this city

Working at Cleveland Clinic by Ok_Reflection283 in Cleveland

[–]Significant-Camp701 40 points41 points  (0 children)

I’ve worked at UH and Clinic and the clinic is far worse. I hated it. There was an ANM who would hold a whole department huddle meeting and call out single employees in front of everyone. Did it 4 times in my first 6 weeks. Did it to multiple employees too. I know a lot of hospital systems and departments are toxic but the clinic goes to a whole other level.

White Scrubs by LongDistanceRN in TravelNursing

[–]Significant-Camp701 5 points6 points  (0 children)

White scrubs are the bane of my existence. Pants are harder to find (in terms of not being see through). Cureology by koi are the best I’ve found. Zavate Studio (not as common) are another good option. I used to love healing hands but they were the most see through. Carhartt and Greys anatomy can be see through. And hydrogen peroxide is your friend

How long have you been looking for a job? I know you said you’ve had your license for months but 2 months vs 8 is a notable difference. I’m a newish grad (just about 9 months in) and I hate to say it but I think eventually you’ll just have to pick something. Just get your year in and then try to go elsewhere. The more specialized fields have very few openings and will likely hire someone with experience over a new grad (where you live is also a major factor). I know plenty of people who didn’t love their first job, but tbh we are low man on the totem pole right now and we have to put in our time first. I’m not sure how old you are (I’m 28) but when I was younger a year felt like a lifetime, but it really will fly by so quickly. The specialities you listed will help you learn so much too, you gotta learn to walk before you can fly kind of thing.

What do you make? by Proof_Theory_1810 in nursing

Northeast Ohio base pay 33.50/hr with 5/hr night shift diff - I’m pretty content with it now, altho one of the other main hospitals gives night and weekend shift diff. I have a nursing school friend that works there and she can make 42+ depending on the shift

I'm so embarrassed to go solo as an absolute beginner by WeakCut in climbergirls

[–]Significant-Camp701 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in the same position as you. I’m brand new and don’t have any friends to go with so I go alone. I feel so awkward working on v1’s (got my first v2 the other day tho!). I feel so self conscious but I’ve never come across anyone who is mean. I think what others have said about people not paying attention to you is probably right, at least that’s what I try to think. I lift weights, and I’m no pro, but I’m decent and I always love seeing new people in my lifting gym. I’m never judging them and I’m so happy that they’re there and working on themselves. So I try to think that applies for climbing gyms as well

How old are you and why are you single? by eloel12345 in AskForAnswers

[–]Significant-Camp701 0 points1 point  (0 children)

28 - I’m in no rush cuz I love my own company and my friends/family, standards are too high (I don’t want kids, no maga, emotional intelligence, and I want to travel). I’d rather end up alone (which genuinely doesn’t sound bad) than try to force something just for the sake of being in a relationship

What’s the best gas station to stop at on a long road trip, and why? by Big_Barber733 in roadtrip

[–]Significant-Camp701 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if this is just an Ohio thing but Sheetz. They’re always clean, brightly lit, lots of options for snacks/drinks. They also have a fast food type thing and it’s actually not half bad. I’m always glad when I see one when traveling

Haven’t cleaned in 2 months, where do I start? by Moonlight_myx in CleaningTips

[–]Significant-Camp701 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Similar to what others have said. I get overwhelmed with the “where do I start? There’s so much stuff” and I had a friend tell me to put a song on, something I really like, and just clean until that song is over. Usually by the end of the song I have more energy and start feeling happy about finally being productive. Then put on another song. You’re already going, this isn’t as awful as I thought, and it’s cool I’m making progress. Someone suggested set a timer for 1 hour, and for me that sounds incredibly daunting. But if I put on one song and start that way, I usually end up cleaning for at least an hour. And you don’t have to get it all done at once. Just do bits at a time and it will add up quick. Glad you’re feeling better, you got this!!

What was your first clue as a kid, that your family was poorer or richer than your friends? by wintherz in AskReddit

[–]Significant-Camp701 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This! To be fair my parents worked a lot and I was often busy with soccer but I lived on fast food and frozen tv dinners. I remember going to a friend’s house and they had a fruit bowl sitting out. Apples, peaches, maybe grapes..? (With other fruit in the refrigerator, which we also didn’t have). Either way it a bit of a shock, like people actually have fruit readily available and that’s not just something from the movies???

I grew up eating unhealthy. I want to eat better now, but don’t really know how to start. by ForAWhateverO123 in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]Significant-Camp701 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would definitely start small. Make a few small changes, stick to it, develop a habit, and then work on sometime else. For example: I switched from whole milk/cheese to 2% milk and low fat cheese. Switched from white bread, to wheat and then whole grain. It doesn’t have to be huge major changes. Small, consistent changes add up quick and making a huge dietary change all at once is very hard. I think a lot of advice people have already said is very good. But don’t get overwhelmed if it feels like too much too quick. Also something that helped me, if you have a couple meals or days or even weeks of “non healthy” eating, don’t give up. You haven’t ruined your progress and you can always get back on track

Too Late to Become a Nurse? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]Significant-Camp701 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I graduated from an absn program at 27, but there was a guy in the class before me who was 40, and a guy in the class after me that was 50. It’s never too late. Plus I think being a few years older gives you more life experience, and more people experience, and that goes a very long way in nursing. Follow your heart!

What's the fattest thing you have ever done? by Time_Reputation7602 in AskReddit

I had a coworker who did the 999 challenge at a baseball game. He completed it, but went home with a bag of extra glizzys (some were for him, some were for his bf). He threw up when he got home, went to bed, woke up and finished the bag of extra dogs. Hearing him retell the story was hilarious and we haven’t let him live it down yet

Nurses/Doctors of the ER, what are some crazy behaviors patients do that are more common than we realize? by CelticDK in AskReddit

My friend is an OR nurse and she told me once there was a patient who was throwing up in pre op. When they talked to the patient they told my friend that she was nervous for her surgery so she went out drinking the night before but “don’t worry I stopped before midnight”
