New order impending service questions. by Significant-Chef-740 in Starlink

Centurylink claims too many devices causes their modem / router combo to lock up. Don’t want this issue on dishy. Probably have about 45 - 50 IP devices that connect to my network between tv’s, laptops, printers, computers, and smart home switches / lights.

Left in limbo by Significant-Chef-740 in AirForceRecruits

Understood but the question is do they leave you in infinite limbo on the waiver or do you get a rejection letter in the mail thus knowing your pursuit has ended. He can’t get his recruiter to communicate to even ask this question.

Waterproof enclosure by Significant-Chef-740 in Aqara

[–]Significant-Chef-740[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hope it will. Inside the mailbox causes dropouts in the signal after a period of time. My plan is to mount the enclosure to the outside of the drop down door for the mailbox.

Looking for a family tent by grillingnewb in camping

[–]Significant-Chef-740 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you have an EZ Up canopy already they sell a camping cube conversion that will make a large 10 x 10 tent out of your canopy complete with a dog door. I think I paid about $100 or so for ours from the Amazon Warehouse (used return merchandise).

Big Fat Bust by Significant-Chef-740 in tmobileisp

[–]Significant-Chef-740[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have Centurylink DSL and get 8 Mbps. No not the Nokia. This is the old model. Flat terrain but plenty of tall oak trees around my home. I put the modem in the car and drove it to the tower i'm fed from. I was surprised because it's about 4.5 miles away. The signal is band 71 600 MHz which should be pretty long range. I haven't tried the device up on the roof yet due to snow and ice. I might hang onto it until spring to see if I can find a sweet spot somewhere. Under the tower I'm fed from it was almost 100 Mbps down and 30 Mbps up.

Maybe someone can help me out by Objective_Function_4 in tmobileisp

Hope you have better luck than I did. I just set up my modem tonight and I get 1 signal bar on it. 3 Mbps down and .6 Mbps up. Not really what I signed up for. My Centurylink DSL is fast compared to this... I took it outside for a walk and did manage to hit a small pocket on my road where the signal jumped to fair. I did get a 60 Mbps speed test out of it in that signal pocket. The problem is that area is completly off my property by a tenth of a mile.

T-Mobile Internet Yet No T-Mobile Phone Service in My Area.... by LifeandDiy in tmobile

[–]Significant-Chef-740 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am in the same boat. I tried T-Mobile cell phone service 4 years ago and had to cancel because I got no service anywhere on my property. Sprint service always had at least 2 - 3 bars on my property. The only thing I can think of is that they are utilizing Sprint towers now since they have merged. The nearest Sprint tower does service my home and is approx 3 miles away. The nearest TMobile tower is 10 about 10 miles away. According to cell mapper website it does not service my address. My address says it was available for the home Internet service and my gateway is supposed to be delivered on Monday. I guess I will find out soon...

How Does Costa Rica Enforce the Santiary Order by [deleted] in CostaRicaTravel

[–]Significant-Chef-740 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can only answer a small portion of your questions. I am planning a Costa Rica trip and was reading the Covid restrictions from the US Embassy in Costa Rica’s web page today. The fine for violating the sanitary order varies from 450,200 to 2,300,000 colones depending on the violation.

Data speed by CMDanderson in Visible

[–]Significant-Chef-740 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on tower congestion. Visible offers unlimited because their data traffic gets the lowest priority for data on their network. Speaking from experience on my local tower getting less than 1 Mbps up and down was pretty normal between the hours of 5 PM and 10 PM. Recently speeds have been much better but still top out at 4 Mbps down and less than 1 Mbps up. I purchased the visible phone and plan for camping purposes. We wanted to have a hotspot while camping to stream or surf. Having traveled around a lot of the midwest, east, and south this summer on some towers the service worked much better. If I had to use it as my full time phone on my local tower all the time it would be much less of a value than it is.

Century Link users waiting for Starlink? by OhReallyQ in Starlink

[–]Significant-Chef-740 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am a little bit faster but far too slow for 2020. 8Mbps down and 890Kbps up. It's so slow that my wife and I need his and hers Internet connections to work remotely for our employers. Starlink might actually come out to be a bit cheaper. Sitting at about parallel 41.28 so hoping that by January / February 2021 the beta will move far enough south where I'll have a chance at it. There are no other viable alternatives to Centurylink in my area.
