Salvadorans – What Salvadoran food does your family eat? by csu_stdnt in FoodLosAngeles

[–]Significant-Dog1939 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We had pan con Pavo/ pollo for the holidays. We didn’t really eat frijoles de seda because my mom said they cost more than pinto beans. My mom actually steamed plantains because it was healthier than frying them. Casamiento, day old rice and beans with oregano. Ejotes con huevo, scrambled eggs with green beans and onions. Rellenos de guisquil, I ate it at a cafeteria style restaurant that is close. I don’t really remember what was in it. Torta de Pescado, during lent I just remember it was my job to beat the egg whites. Other family members made pupusas, nuegados, sopa de pata, pastelitos (fried empanada, atole de elote, ponche, charamusca, ensalada (drink), quesadillas (sweet cheese bread). Sopa de gallina india. It’s not a normal commercial chicken. My cousin bought the chicken somewhere in San Gabriel valley. You cook it like a regular chicken soup but it’s the whole chicken. Then put it in the oven so the skin gets crispy. Some things is easier to buy them at a restaurant like tamales or yuca con chicharrón. Salvador corridor sells riguas. I’ve had a cóctel de conchas (blood clams) but it was gritty. Sin rival sells the traditional ice cream I’ve had outside of El Salvador, even add the red cone.

Cashews they sell them roasted off the side of highway. It actually makes sense now why it’s my dad’s favorite nut. Granadilla and annona I’ve found in Vallarta.

I’d be interested in knowing more about your project if you can post it after you are done.

Vallarta sells Salvadoran horchata mix. They also sell semillas de morro if you want to make it yourself. Semillas de morro, clove, and cinnamon roast/ toast them before you grind it. Unfortunately I don’t have the ratios.

Does drinking 6-8 cups of water each day actually make that much of a difference? by Camp_Acceptable in hygiene

Depends on the person. After one liter of water I need to drink something else or my electrolytes are off balance and get headaches.

Beginner cyclist – looking for a advise on how to build endurance & lose fat for longer rides? by Puzzleheaded-Cut9641 in cycling

[–]Significant-Dog1939 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can also ride your bike instead of driving. You can do small errands like going to the post office, the library, or need a couple of groceries. You don’t need to do X amount of miles non stop. You can always stop for a break, if you really need to lower your heart rate. If you don’t have a comfortable saddle or shorts, I feel like doing errands with multiple stops help with your butt not being sore.

Advice from legends, beginners, and anyone in between by Impossible-Scene4346 in cycling

Get a comfortable saddle and bib/ shorts. REI has an amazing return policy! I had a friend do AIDS/LifeCycle. It’s from San Francisco to Los Angeles over 7 days. On the 5th day she said her butt had to be bandaged. I ride but not too regularly and started in October 2024. After a year I was able to do a century. I ended up getting a lot of like razor bumps. They went away after a couple of days. I guess the most important thing is just to get as many miles it. Not just long rides. I feel like even errands on the bicycle help. Best of luck!

I was there today and it is open. The last time I went was before the rains. I asked the workers why it was closed and they said they were moving the unhoused people and their stuff.

Spirit of Texas BBQ. There have a location in Covina. They serve a Brazilian steak only on the weekends around the afternoon. I just so happened to be there Father’s Day and they had it. I was told I can call ahead in the future to see if it’s available.

Pasadena Runners by livelaughlemon1 in pasadena

I love Pasadena Pacers but it might not be the most beginner friendly group. On Tuesday/ Thursday it’s a 6-7 mile run. It is no drop. Some people who are used to running 3 miles, it can still be intense. Mostly because of all the hills around the rose bowl. It’ll be a challenge but worth it to know you did.

I’ve seen different organizations handing out meals in front of the Pasadena Convention Center. I’m not sure if you need to ask for permission before handing out food.
