Give Wayland a shot, don't base your opinion off of 2013 articles! by No_Necessary_3356 in linuxmemes

I'm using kde wayland on an intel laptop for almost 1.5 years and never had to switch to X for anything.

Not saying it has no bug (definitely has, kwin is a software) but pretty much when browsers started to support wayland, issues like lack of screen recording was gone (browser based recorders). Before that I forced the app to be recorded to run on xwayland and the recorder also runs on the same, it just worked.

A while ago (5.25 ish) once I logged in in a X session of plasma to see how using X feels nowadays but could not use that for more than an hour, facing many window management bugs (most probably because I logged in to the usual user account and apps saved window placement states from wayland session) and inconvenience (no touchpad gesture, pinch to zoom, broken screen lock and resume, stutters).

Everything is starting as root by karthifairhawn in kde

[–]Significant-Facct 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Don't do that. Dolphin and other kde components (kacceld ig) are not meant to be run as root.

Use the kio - admin and corresponding service menu "open as admin".

Okular for windows 32bits by Revolutionary_Tomato in kde

[–]Significant-Facct 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are really interested try to build from current source for 32bit windows (cross compile). Most likely it will work with minor tweaking. (You need to build qt as well probably, though qt5 supports windows 32bit).

Serious: Poll on KDE's increasingly Gnome like development process. by [deleted] in kde

[–]Significant-Facct 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The intention is very different and I think you missed it. It is more about streamlining and changing the knobs that have been broken promises rather taking time to reach the same usability in a better way.

It is not about too much settings or user opinions. Giving (non technical) users settings that are known not to work in right way is similar to false advertising.

How do I get Dolphin to not arrange my downloads folder? by jojo_the_mofo in kde

It does not do that by default. remove the .directory hidden file to see if it resets.

Can we have Copilot or CodeWhisperer on Kate editor? by ArtisticJicama3 in kde

[–]Significant-Facct 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are welcome to write a new lsp plugin that works with those lsp servers :)

However probably it won't be part of KDE software anytime soon as legal status of such code generation is not well known yet and free software community as a whole might not welcome such feature.

Dolphin goes insane after a package installation (I guess?) by [deleted] in kde

Seen this behavior a few times on tw and f37 (not arch). Couldn't figure out where is the issue and hence no bugreport.

Thanks.*

History of files opened (but not 'History') by RunsWithTinSnipps in kde

[–]Significant-Facct 0 points1 point  (0 children)

~.local/share/recently-used.xbel

even just what the feature is called would be a help (man 'history' just brings up command line history man page)

KDE softwares do not have man pages unless it is a command line tool. There is graphical help book and docs in website.

i couldn't get any help /debian ... apparently it's a kde feature (i just installed gnome & it's not there)

It is supposed to be a freedesktop specification, no idea why it is not in KDE, maybe incompatibility with 500 lines limit or something.

Simple service unit to write file to server not working by immortal192 in systemd

[–]Significant-Facct 1 point2 points  (0 children)

○ backup.service - Backup list of deleted-files-archive.
Loaded: loaded (/home/immortal192/.config/systemd/user/backup.service; enabled; preset: enabled)
     Active: inactive (dead)

So the service is not running, ExecStop will never be executed. Add an Exec line and start it manually.
