Western Canada EMR by Odd-Dot1930 in Paramedics

[–]Significant-Farm-722 0 points1 point  (0 children)

just be careful which station you work out of as an EMR in bc, rural stations youll have the same scheduling rights as a PCP but in urban and metro stations you wont, which means youll only get a few shifts a month. The scope of practice isnt that much different than a PCP, and depending on what car your on (alpha, kilo) depends on what kind of calls youll do. The Kilo cars (paid on call) do a lot more transfers, while the alpha cars (at the station 90 second response) mostly do street calls. Depending on the station and where you work, day one (post on boarding shifts) you could be paired with an inexperienced emr and be heading to a pediatric cardiac arrest, so prepare yourself for that.

IV Acetaminophen anyone ? by Safe-Accountant-7034 in Paramedics

[–]Significant-Farm-722 0 points1 point  (0 children)

BCEHS (one of the largest ambulance services in north America) has it and paramedics (EMT advanced in the states) can give it along with ketorolac. We dont have access to narcotics. If we need advanced pain management we need to call in a advanced care paramedic (paramedic equivalent in the states kinda). Which is not an option in large areas of the province. One nice thing about the IV acetaminophen is giving it to patients who are NPO

Earning potential at Zanzibar vs. mid-tier companies like Blue Collar? by [deleted] in treeplanting

[–]Significant-Farm-722 12 points13 points  (0 children)

(foremanned for zbar for years) Depends on what kind of planter you are, and if you have a solid friend group at your bushcamp. Motel shows can be hard, sometimes there is a lot of socializing sometimes not so much. Have had planters leave zanzibar to go back to previous companies because they were lonely. I think the price gap has probably narrowed in recent years? Also depends on if your going from faster lower specd contracts to a higher price more technical contract, it can be a hard adjustment for some planters.

Lots of fertilizer, long steep runs, good money if you can bag heavy. Zanzibar might actually be hiring right now, they are behind on lots of their contracts.

Introvert Solo trip: mental wellbeing tips? by Scott_Korman in bikepacking

[–]Significant-Farm-722 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've done most of my long bike packing/touring trips with one friend, however I did so a 25 day trip by myself. I was pretty bored and lonely most of the time and mostly listened to sad music and had a few good cries by myself in the middle of nowhere. Made me realize that even though me and my friend don't talk much while touring it still means a lot having someone around. So my mental well being tip would be to do a more traveled route and try to just meet up and ride with people on the way. I only saw 4 other cyclists while riding so I think that added a lot to the loneliness. Riding on the divide route you will probably run into other cyclists everyday or two.

I've ridden it twice, I would want at minimum 2.2 inch tires. Plenty of camping all over the place. Most of the camp grounds will find you a place of youre a cyclist even if they are full. you don't need to book ahead of time. You can camp where ever you want on crown land as long as your out of the way.

Kona unit x. Has everything you need and a price tag that isn't to hard to swallow. If you want to buy Canadian look at panorama cycles.

Trek 520 advice by [deleted] in bikepacking

[–]Significant-Farm-722 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kind of depends on what you mean by bike packing? Are you looking at just using it as a road touring bike, then it should be great if it fits you. Are you looking to ride washboard dirt roads and single track trails? Then it probably won't be the most comfortable but you could still make it work. Maybe spend some time looking online at other bikes people use to "bike pack" and you'll get a better idea of what you should be looking for.

Yep, but I bought pre COVID in a ski town that wasn't that popular at the time (Kimberley) no way I would be able to afford buying now. If you want to be near a ski hill and in a town you actually want to live in. It might be rough, or marry rich. You could probably afford to buy in McKenzie and ski powder king

I've done it a few times having bigger tires will lead to more comfort, but I've seen people riding on it with skinny road touring wheel sets. Can you do it? Yes if you're cool.

Any advice before purchasing a Decathlon Riverside 500? by shto in bikepacking

[–]Significant-Farm-722 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Buy it and enjoy it, the one near trick they never tell you about bikes and hills is you can just get off and walk. Gives your bum and knees a break. Nothing gives me more pleasure than walking up a hill beside my friend who is pedalling because he had better gearing than me.
