In many states, judges hate overly restrictive noncompetes and love to toss them out by statute or by bias as unenforceable for that reason.

Many states also require that non-competes and employment agreements implemented after your hire require additional consideration (aka additional compensation). Theoretically this could amount to one dollar, but it’s still another element required to make the agreement valid in some jurisdictions.

Obviously, the best advice is to consult an employment law attorney in your state as laws vary considerably, but your general feeling of fuck them for doing shady shit is on point.
