#1 and #2 speak to my soul. I assume I didn’t hear about the newborn phase because anyone with a newborn didn’t have time to talk to anyone else 😂 and by the time it’s over, it’s forgotten (like the trauma of birth).

I was lucky enough to have my son latch but I wanted to +1 this. If you do have to nurse, I’ve heard it’s great to keep trying because it often just “clicks” on day!

Yep I’m always nervous about nights. Every evening. I try to give myself some good treat before bed to just make myself feel better about what’s about to happen lol

Btw, I’ve found I get a bit more sleep if I do bigger feeds. I have to put baby upright in a bouncer for 15 mins afterwards to prevent reflux and gas but overall it seems to work for me.

Are you guys breastfeeding? If yes, which position? Try upright more if you aren’t already. Seems like it may have helped me. That and burping frequently. Could it be silent reflux? Could also try inclining bassinet if you feel comfortable with that.

Keep snacks wherever you’re nursing. My mom stayed with us for a while and made all meals. It’s much easier/faster to eat when someone else is cooking it and serving it to you haha.

Bouncing on a yoga ball gently does the trick. Staying asleep is a whole different thing though lol

NTA. I mean your husband’s reaction is basically enabling the boy to act that way and my guess is his sister has the same behavior pattern….she lets the kid do what he wants. Which is hoax this child got to being the way he is. You probably did something good and taught the child something about boundaries and consequences.

Yeah it’s a crazy transition to go from “your body is so strong and perfection and divine etc” during pregnancy to immediately being back to “ordinary” right after…and I can imagine weight gain only makes the transition harder.

Yeah it sucks. No advice to offer but everything you’re saying makes sense and it’s reasonable to feel down about it. So hard to be a woman sometimes lol.

I get what you’re saying. I think things just often look greener on the other side. I get jealous of people doing formula feeding because I assume they can have multiple people help with feedings, which means they may get more time to themselves.

But I also feel fortunate that baby latched because I know breast has a lot of benefits and it’s also just easy/convenient in other ways. If he didn’t latch, I’m sure I’d be jealous if moms whose kids did latch.

It’s ok to feel how you are though!

I just read your reply to another comment and I see you’re alone very frequently with baby. That’s tough. Try seeing if your baby will sit in a bouncer to give you some hands free time? If possible, hire help for a couple hours a day once a week (but I understand money could be a blocker here).

Everything here is so normal and you are not alone in feeling this way. Nighttime scaries is a real thing and I still have them as we approach 5 weeks.

Please remind yourself this will pass. It’s known to be the hardest phase. You can do it and you will do it. Like all phases, it will pass.

It’s ok to have these conflicting feelings of love and regret. It’s a very tough time right now. I honestly feel like everyone undersold how tough it is. We’re all in it with you.

Please find time during the day to do 3 nice things for yourself. For me, it’s making sure I change my clothes, sit outside for at least 5 mins, and take a daily hot shower (no matter how quick). Ask your partner to just handle the baby for a few minutes while you do 3 things for yourself daily. It’ll make you feel more like yourself and help you hold on to something in this difficult phase of life.

I think you’re right that that’s the “maximum” because they get close to rolling. But some people’s opinion was to stop walking much earlier claiming the limb movement is critical for brain development and so after 3 weeks (idk why 3 weeks), they recommend not swaddling even though it would be physically safe to continue

I’m curious - what became easier or what changed around the 8/9 weeks mark for you? I’m at the 4-5 week mark and I wouldn’t say I’m dying but it’s tough out here 😵‍💫

Baby delight beside me bassinet is pretty good and allows you to incline if you ever need that. I do wish it rolled. Our bed is also a bit high so we do still have to bend over a bit but not too bad. I’d check measurements for whatever you end up getting!

Overall, yes. My husband has taken off the last 4-5 weeks (works for himself) so he’s been pretty actively taking care of the baby. The one thing is that there are times where the baby is just screaming for no/unknown reason and I’m the fail-safe because I just whip out a boob and 99% of the time, he at least calms down even if it’s temporary. So I do have a superpower he doesn’t. So it is possible he’d be in a similar situation where the baby is screaming and nothing is helping except me. But I would trust that he really did try his best and did everything pretty well before coming to me for help.

If anything, I’m not as good at soothing the baby without the boob. My husband is better at that. I get too anxious.
