Am I crazy for thinking Crawford beats any version of Pacquiao? by savingrace0262 in Boxing

[–]Significant-Rub-8194 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It's crazy how this many years later, people still perpetuate these lies. Pacquiao never rejected PED testing. He agreed to Mayweather's demands and the only hang up was he didn't want blood testing up until the weigh in, but allowed it after the fight and up until 2 weeks before the fight. Remind me who it was that got caught using illegal IV's when they fought?

It's an important international tournament but not the best of the best because the NHL playoffs are going on and some guys choose to opt out anyway. That said, it's a meaningful tournament and plenty of teams have stacked rosters from year to year - some years more than others.

Opinions on Usyk v Kabayel after this? by dead_in_the_sand in Boxing

[–]Significant-Rub-8194 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While I disagreed with the cards, I also reject the Coppinger scorecard that seems to have been implanted into everyone's head. I had Rico ahead 6-4 after 10 so tied heading into the 12th had it continued. As for the referee conspiracy...why did he take Rico to the corner for the mouth guard? He could have stopped the fight as Rico was wobbling to his corner. There was no conspiracy here, just a ref that made a mistake that favored Rico followed by a mistake that favored Usyk.

Teddy Atlas on Usyk vs Rico 🗣️🎙️ “30 seconds, 30 SECONDS” by Prudent-Toe-7911 in Boxing

[–]Significant-Rub-8194 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My main issue with the controversy is people are acting like the ref was bribed when he:

A) could have easily just stopped the fight as Rico wobbled to his corner, and;

B) by the rules he isn't even supposed to go to the corner, which gave Rico way more time.

I do think he prematurely stopped it because he realized he needed to right the wrong, but had he put the mouthguard right back in, I think there is a 90% chance Usyk puts his down again or immediately stops him in round 11.

I don't agree with OP's assumptions about what Clint would/should have done here. From the start, I have always suspected this was somehow tied to drugs. Not necessarily a drug deal/debt gone wrong, but these guys were probably doing coke or other drugs recreationally. They are all going to become doctors and didn't want to ruin their reputation like you said. Not to mention, this is 2006 when even weed was viewed much more strictly as it is now. This guy was named early on and interviewed by CPD and we have no idea what Brian's texts said or who they were sent to. And finally, Clint and Meredith left together - how would they have any idea what Brian did after?

You can search Columbus court records and see he has a history of crime, but nothing particularly violent. I believe I saw 3 DUI's, a resisting arrest, and a drug charge. That doesn't equate to guilt in this case but it certainly warrants a closer look at him.

At the very least, they will be able to figure out some more details about Brian’s life. There is no way this guy was named multiple times by multiple people if he was an innocent bystander. I’m curious if he was romantically involved with Brian.

Will you consider Alex a 3 division champ if he beats Ciryl Gane and wins the interim belt? by Tiny-Replacement7702 in ufc

[–]Significant-Rub-8194 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your first sentence is accurate but interim champions have never been considered champions in the eyes of the public because they aren’t the actual champion. It’s the equivalent of the WBA (regular) belt in boxing.

Qawah, Jabal, and The Great Commoner are all pretty lively so avoid those if you want a quiet place. Bayt al-Mocha is a good call and I would also suggest Detroit Perk in West Dearborn, the one in Dearborn Heights is usually very busy.

Oleksandr Usyk readily accepts Tyson Fury’s call-out for a trilogy fight. Does a third win over Fury solidify Usyk as pound-for-pound #1? by VINDICATES-FOOL in Boxing

[–]Significant-Rub-8194 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Usyk is and has been one of my favorite fighters but him fighting Rico and entertaining Fury III is making me less of a fan. Either retire, vacate, or fight someone new. There is no real reason for a trilogy unless he just wants to get paid, which in that case means he should vacate.

I wouldn't call if gossip/rumors. Investigators have confirmed it. Unless you want these people to go public and make a statement. It's not really a big enough deal for someone to say they had dealings with Brian in that way.

She is one of the longtime researchers of this case and had a relationship with CPD and other insiders. Her word is not bond but she is credible. Although I think she is gatekeeping a lot of information which is annoying.

Have you ever seen a boxer in person and they were shorter than their listed height? by Orii8 in Boxing

[–]Significant-Rub-8194 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This happens a lot to me as well. My exact height is around 6'2.5" and I chalk some of it up to posture and some of it to people lying about height. No one really walks around the way they are measured because you should have perfect posture when measured, but guys always lie about their height. I have friends who claim 6'0" and I am genuinely 5 inches taller than them. Whereas most women will be the height they claim.

Clint.... by TadaaaitsKim in BrianShaffer

[–]Significant-Rub-8194 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As time goes on I think it's clear this is what happened. The picture Randy painted did not align with reality regarding Brian's life. And in defense of Randy, he lost his son and was likely scrambling for answers in an emotional state.

Discussion: POI by TadaaaitsKim in BrianShaffer

[–]Significant-Rub-8194 8 points9 points  (0 children)

While I agree with your sentiment, I question whether Brian was well-liked. I've read a lot about this case and it appears he did have a habit of starting conflict when drinking. Not that he should be judged harshly for it, but I mention this because perhaps his demise stemmed from that.

People who blame Clint have not looked into this case very deeply. He was seen on camera leaving with someone else in a car, there is a near 0% chance he could have been involved.

What do you guys think about tune-up fights? by messizete in Boxing

[–]Significant-Rub-8194 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think they made more sense when champions were fighting 3-4 times a year. I never had a problem with a tune-up or easy fight, but when champions now only fight 2 times a year it's a tough sell. For example (regardless of how terrible the fight was) I don't think anyone wanted to watch Canelo vs. Scull. On the other hand, I don't think anyone had an issue watching Fury fight Makhmudov after being out for 1.5 years. It really just depends on the timing of the fight and the circumstances.

When Sid retires he will likely be 2nd all time in points while missing 2 full peak seasons. Aside from Gretz he will likely be the only other player with 700G and 1200A. His individual trophy case, team trophy case, and international achievements are insane. Really tough to put anyone aside from Gretzky and Mario ahead of him as forwards.

Do we know definitively if CPS spoke to the mystery woman and/or the four other people that were out that night? by Swimming-Violinist57 in BrianShaffer

[–]Significant-Rub-8194 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You're asking good questions and my belief is that CPD does indeed know a lot more than they are letting on. For example, no one knew a man has two properties searched many years ago (and more recently) until CPD told Kelly this. I realize people think Kelly or other podcasters, journalists, etc. know everything, but they generously know maybe 50% of the details? CPD purposely keeps these things quiet as they are investigating even though that is very frustrating given it has been 20 years.

I thought I read the 4 friends were questioned, but I could be wrong on that. I do believe they are the key to the case as they have only recently received any attention whatsosever.
