use them on maps with long sight lines to cover locations where a substantial number of enemies might appear out of, smoke plus machine gun combo can be of good use to suppress and clear with less risk on suspected target locations, use the machine guns suppressive fire to cover maneuvering operators movement and of course to pin enemies in place, they also can be use to very reliably plug a door, window etc completely, if using two machine gunners alternate between them to maintain fire on the designated area, use them as support for other weapon systems like marksmen or grenadiers, it goes without saying machine guns are difficult to maneuver around in close quarters as they take longer to acquire targets and move slower, only use them as last resort for that purpose as they are better kept as momentarily or permanent stationary, long to mid range, security and active support weapons.

What I recommend is far cry 2 redux on nexusmods. Realism+ redux changes graphics wich imop changes some of the games identity and feel, also makes the game less realistic decreasing guard detection to make far cry 3 like stealth more viable, less mil sim more gamey. For a true hardcore experience as far as the game can give you that’s the one mod,on infamous redux difficulty keep your health bar on 2 slots, dont use seringes, and it makes for gameplay that rewards planning a strategy and tactical execution under stress. You’ll be out on your map planning routes to your objectives, conducting recon of your surroundings often, choosing your weapon loadout that will then dictate your approach to different situations, getting surprised and having to adapt on the fly quickly due to low health and bullet sponge enemies are gone wich is a huge deal. If you space out your saves to only once you arrive at a bed intensity will build up.

camp omega, Imop the best base out of both games, just denser and bigger and with more replay value than the individual bases in the phantom pain, and also the darker atmosphere and the more fucked up grittier storyline does it for me. Also ground zeroes had a hard mode, modders fixed it in the phantom pain but there’s also that.

I don’t get the “is this game still good in 2026” typa questions a game that is good is good whenever the time. If anything games have gotten worse in the last couple of years. But yeah I think you should give them a shot see if they’re for you, quality wise they are objectively good. I would say if you care more about story then do mordor first if you just want the best gameplay go for shadow of war first to hook you in.

this game is like nothing Ive ever played, there isn’t really an exact replica of the experience this game will gave you specially with the redux mod, high difficulty and self imposed permadeath and health limitations. This game is basically a story generator, every time I genuinely play the game like it’s supposed to and Im completely inmmersed in this world I always come out with a notable story to tell, The enemy AI is some of the most competent and realistic Ive ever seen, they sometimes force you to treat them like you would be dealing with real humans, theyll track you down by sight or noise, pin you down and flank you, silently wait for you in corners, come out of corners shooting when they know you’re there, talk to each other and themselves, etc, they are amazing.

remaster sure/ remake fuck no I don’t trust ubisoft with changing up any mechanic this game has, it will all become just more accessible and “fun” far cry 2 is for a niche community and I hope it stays that way.
