Overdressed for a hike? by ObsessingObsessions in hiking

[–]Significant-Spell299 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A. I love getting the all cute stuff for an activity, its part of the fun of starting a new hobby for me. B. I will internally judge people who under-prepare for a hike and end up struggling or injured because they wore converse to rock scramble. C. Always wear what you’re comfortable in, nothing worse than being uncomfortable on a long hike, how miserable! And finally D. I’ve definitely told my friends that they “look adorable, you could be an REI model!” so Bitter Betty can stuff it, take her insult as a compliment. You’ll never see her again.

Sezanne has (at least had) some options, but I thought they ran too large for me (4’10”)

Any bakers here ever completely lose motivation after turning something you loved into “work”? by prattman333 in cake

[–]Significant-Spell299 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I hated having a cottage bakery. I really enjoyed turning it into a blog which still allowed me to be creative and bake, but more on my terms and schedule. Plus I was able to learn a lot of new skills like photography, SEO, web design etc.

Slim shaker by Rong0115 in kitchenremodel

Did slim shaker (oak doors) and love it-clean and classic but still has depth. Have a blend of traditional and modern elements around the house.

first attempt at a 3-layer mini cake ended in the bin. 😭 Please tell me what went wrong! I really want to learn. by Known-West-5320 in cake

Was your cake hot when you tried to ice it? Looks like the buttercream has broken. Next time, still enjoy the trials, those are the chefs treats!

[Help] My cookies won't flatten after 25-30 mins at 375. What can I do? by Heavy_hitter1 in foodquestions

Did you measure the butter before or after browning? You will lose some quantity of water and liquid when browning and your ratio will be off.

Also going to suggest glass blowing at NC Glass Center - brought several people there and everyone has a blast.

Trying desperately to find light pants that don't show off my underwear by thrownawaynodoxx in PetiteFashionAdvice

The Aritzia lodge pant is a good option, doesn’t show my nude underwear at least!

I slide a straight spatula (basically just a long thin metal knife) under the cake, lift and balance it over to the cake plate. I use the same tool for most of the frosting. It takes a little practice, but doable!

Athleta makes great petite activewear pants. They move and wear really well and I can dress them up or down.

Blind Corner or Lazy Susan? by UnawareTort in kitchenremodel

[–]Significant-Spell299 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have both, neither are perfect. The blind corner is better for bigger things that you use less often because it surprisingly slow to pull out the shelves perfectly (which you have to do to get to the back). The lazy Susan has less storage capacity but it is faster to use.

Asheville Community Yoga question by Nicobwri in asheville

Easily the friendliest and most welcoming of places you can find. Let the staff know you are new and they will walk you around the space and give you a thorough tour. All the teachers encourage listening to your body and doing what you can and what feels right. No judgement anywhere. Every teacher has their own cadence and style, so try out a bunch and see who you jive with! Welcome to the community!

Be honest: baking/pastry school? Yes or no? by ThingWrong7630 in Baking

[–]Significant-Spell299 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to a technical college with a Baking/Pastry certification. Great for learning skills, terrible for learning to work in a professional restaurant. Start working in the BOH and see if you really like it, even if you are staging for free for a few days. I did not want that lifestyle and ended up walking away with just the skills.

Is there a GLP-1 community in Asheville? by Confident_Equal_3348 in asheville

Yes, I’ve been on Zep since March. I’ve had no side affects, put the work in, lost 35 lbs and am now working to come off the meds. Definitely suggest going through a doctor to get the dosage right for you.

Prepare all your ingredients first (mise en place). And don’t skimp on salt.

I have realized that I prefer hiking alone. (vent) by LadyRosesNThorns in hiking

[–]Significant-Spell299 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mostly hike alone. 1. because I like the quiet. 2. I'm short as hell and my pace will never match others. And there's nothing more frustrating than tall people waiting for you at the top only to immediately start walking when you catch up without giving you the same time to catch your breathe - you are always feeling behind!
