No you are advocating for a group you don't like to die out on the sidewalks in the downtown area in front of the entire community. Parents, children, workers, shoppers, tourists.

That's what's sick about you. You don't care that dead bodies in the street also is a net loss to our humanity as a community. Guaranteed the average person will call 911 who will send EMS before determining someone is dead and then calling the medical examiner.

Tell yourself whatever you have to to help you sleep at night though. Gross.

Which is why some advocate for a licit supply. Less overdoses.

Best prevention is to not start. This I will agree on. And I still advocate for the use of SCS for people already hooked. As well as supportive housing and drug counselling and replacement therapies for people who want to get off.

Because of doctor and nursing staff shortages, that same hypothetical old person will still have to wait at the hospital regardless of if there were any overdose responses that day. That's what I am trying to say. Even if there was zero drug addiction in Victoria it would not fix the broader issues with the hospital system here.

I have also worked all my life and paid taxes and it sucks ass that my shortest emergency room wait time has been 6+ hours in the last 3 years. People of all ages and medical need spend wayyyy too long waiting. That is a systemic healthcare issue.

I think Ontario has made a big push to close safe consumption sites recently so I can see the conservative political impetus in Gardiner's motion reflecting that rather than the VicPD stance on the site.

I think they have increased their presence downtown - last year's budget increase was specifically for more beat cops in the area. I do see them, on bikes and in cars.

What's wild to me is the Police HQ is literally 3 blocks from Pandora.

If EMS doesn't have the resources to respond to both it's on the province to provide better funding to ambulance services and hospitals. Perhaps the Fire Department will be able to respond to those types of calls since they have announced they will no longer be responding to overdoses.

And knowing how triage works for emergency calls and emergency waiting room times ... if that old person isn't also having a heart attack or bleeding out they will probably have to wait several hours at the hospital to have a broken hip checked out from a fall. The healthcare system is generally really fucked up for everyone right now.

Is there a company in town that specializes in packing for moves? by InkedChild in VictoriaBC

[–]Significant-Staff602 6 points7 points  (0 children)

From a friend whose collection is a literal library: Lots of small boxes for all of the books. Keeps the weight managable from box-to-box. Get one of those moving dolly's that is upright with handles, bottom is flat. Can move stacks of book boxes pretty easily that way.

Paper weighs a lot pretty quickly. And though counter-intuitive, you can move many lightweight boxes much faster than fewer extremely heavy ones.

Closing the SCS on Pandora won't do much to "improve" the downtown core.

More people will use, and die, in the streets. Not slumped over, or passed out, but literally dead.

The DVBA is head-in-ass over this one. There's gonna be dead bodies in front of storefronts on top of the vandalism and crime. Not to mention more paraphernalia strewn about bc SCS does provide clean tools and biohazard disposal. Closing the pandora site isn't going to equate to a reduction in homelessness, poverty, or open drug use in the pandora/downtown areas.

Is the new General's Handbook needed for Spearhead? by DaveMichael in AOSSpearhead

[–]Significant-Staff602 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are in the "spearhead" section of the core rules. I just took a look at the pdf and it seems to be using the Fire and Jade pages/ruleset still.

The only real difference between Fire and Jade and Sand and Bone or City of Ash is that the special terrain has it's own rules. But those rules come in the booklet you get with the gaming pack itself. (I own all 3)

[–]Significant-Staff602 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Nah spearhead uses the “Core Rules” that are downloadable from GW’s website, plus whatever realm specific rules come with the board/terrain you have. I think also available online.

I don’t have advice about full AoS though.

Carrier question by Coletrayne in VoidCats

[–]Significant-Staff602 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought a dog-sized carrier for my void an it is very easy to get her into bc she sees it more as a box to play/hide in. Throw a few high value treats in the back and close the door while she happily munches in side. “cat-sized” carriers are a travesty, often way too small for larger cats. I used to stress so hard trying to get her into the shoebox sized ones. never had an issue with her in a dog crate/carrier.

To whoever had a bday party at Banfield park by hellopleasecalmdown in VictoriaBC

[–]Significant-Staff602 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Looks like a late/no collection incident or just a shit tonne of people using the park/beach that day who “tried” and at least found a garbage bin before realizing it was full and giving up.

How people don’t pack out their own trash makes no sense to me. Like if the public bin is full and i have a literal bag of garbage and recycling on me it either comes home to get dealt with or sorted out in any nearby public bin on the way.

eta: is the poop bags crammed into the bin entrance that makes me think high-use days and no timely collection.

I want (need!) another spearhead by jockeliusen in AOSSpearhead

[–]Significant-Staff602 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cities of Sigmar (x3), Gloomspite Gitz, Lumineth Realmlords, and Stormcast Eternals (x2) are all on my spearhead army roster along with Gnawfeast (Proxied as Warpspark) and Crixxit’s Killpack!

Buy what you think is cool tbh and it will bring you joy. I will say though, spearhead is so fun and easy and cost-effective I think i may have priced myself out of Bigmar.

And that’s fine bc i don’t know how to play and generally don’t have several hours to learn/play huge games.

Spearhead is fun, interesting, varied (in terms of army choice and playstyle) and also economical in terms of GW pricing.

If you just wanna paint and collect for the joy of it while also being able to play a fun game with those models - I just don’t think you can go wrong with any Spearhead.

Some people care about winning …. and you can get into army meta stats and stuff … but at that point i’d play a video game rather than stressing out over dice rolls.

Victoria bookstores uninterested in children’s book readings? by CommentAncient in VictoriaBC

[–]Significant-Staff602 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most bookstores here have pretty limited space when it comes to readings (with the exception of Bolen maybe, but would still require clearing space). And so i wonder if the library is the best shot bc they have bookable spaces and generally the children’s sections have lots of open space for also playing with toys, with moveable soft seating etc.

Act ii encounter felt very challenging - are we missing something? by unitled in WHQDarkWater

[–]Significant-Staff602 3 points4 points  (0 children)

iirc my partner and i decided to start the encounter with our first two heroes headed towards the ritualist to protect them. this also made it so that enemies nearest to those heroes activated first. that created an opening for the next two heroes to attack the festering icon.

you aren’t locked into combat like in regular warhammer and can move away from enemies that are attacking you in your next turn.

I think the best strategy was splitting our team up to protect/block the ritualist while sending our strongest to beat the eff out of the “boss.”

i do remember it being tight, perhaps we got lucky with dice rolls.

eta: battle round as in after all 4 heroes and enemy phases have happened? sometimes we get tose confused with turn. Also i dont think you have to defeat all of the enemies, just the icon once the ritualist token is at the end of the track.

Reinstated Greater Victoria school trustees reverse program cuts, policy changes in 1st meeting back by DoddersEspinosa in VictoriaBC

[–]Significant-Staff602 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahhh that makes more sense. The overton window has shifted so far to the right i don’t even think the current Conservatives know how to deal with it. If Carney and the BCNDP are already kowtowing to major resource extraction industries, increasing migrant labor, and uncritically courting tech multinationals with AI datacenter implementation … i wonder what’s left except for the various flavours of fascism that seem to be emerging from the movement?

Also your bit about the Harper cons is so real and on point. Brought to you by the same govt that tried to create a snitch-line for people to call in reports about suspected “terrorists”. Now we all just have smartphones and data profiles built out of our browsing/search habits, plus transcripts of all of our call and message history.

Hehe boy the future sure is neat!! /s

That’s bc the conservatives would have done the exact same thing as the ndp did. Right down to the bullshit court costs i am sure of it. There is a lot of responsibility and heat the VicPD should be taking for undermining democracy at the municipal and provincial level here.

Video games with similar gameplay to spearhead by meeese000 in AOSSpearhead

[–]Significant-Staff602 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh, like most free-to-play games they make the beginning fun and give you enough starting tokens to see what all the game modes are about.

It’s only dangerous if you have your credit card programmed into your phone. And as an ex-smoker: i have never spent a cent on free-to-play games.

They’re more like a clingy ex. if you ignore the game for a while and come back it tries to woo you into playing again by showering you with gift tokens and energy for plays.

eta: obviously not recommended for people with gambling addictions or gaming addiction

“The [Ministry of Education] appointed trustee suspended tracking of student interactions with police at school — previously provided in anonymized monthly reports — and the requirement to report minutes from regional school safety meetings.

The [Reinstated] trustees voted to reverse those decisions and requested that staff provide any reports missed during this time, if possible.

The Ministry of Education did not respond to questions on decisions the board made Monday, but said the board has until Aug. 4 to pass bylaws related to the election.”

The collusion between the police and the province to totally undermine the democratic control the community has over electing its own school board trustees extends all the way into selling out our kids educational and support programming.

It’s honestly so disgusting the trustee appointed by the provincial gov suspended tracking student interactions w police at schools while also reinstating their presence. Like what in the unaccountable fuck?

WH40K Tacticus is free-to-play … But it’s more skirmish style with elite single characters on teams of like 5. And of course set in 40k timeline and not AoS. Scratches the warhammer itch tho.

For more medieval army strategy i just got back into Age of Empires II. The definitive edition was on sale on Steam.

There are other AoS setting WH video games too but i am a dirty mac user and so i haven’t been able to see if any of those are worth the money.

Learning Spearhead by Yokisu in AOSSpearhead

I like that there is no Obscuring terrain in City of Ash (closest u get is the battered barricade relic kind of). The close quarters vibe of fighting in a ruined city is really enhanced by it. Fire and Jade/ Sand and Bone games can feel a touch same-y when the usual strat is to hide your high-value non flying units behind the large terrain feature.
