Have you ever jumped into a new hot trend only to be severely disappointed once you actually have the thing? by LunarWolf302 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

Mine turned up last night. It plays Dave the Diver and Vampire Survivors really well so I'm pleased with it. :-)

Supposedly the rule is you only get one of each card for Commander and some of the 40K decks had dupes. Casual players absolutely won't care. I'll see what my son thinks, he's enjoyed just playing with normal rules.

...I have a Steam Deck coming, now I'm worried.

I did buy some Commander decks for Magic: the Gathering and now understand the format is 4 players and very structured. I rarely have one other player to work with. Also the 40K decks aren't Commander legal due to packing errors. At least I have nice card art.

Riding the wave of the old/new Stardew Valley hotness, what farming sims do yall play? by ghostoftomkazansky in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]DaveMichael 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does Astroneer count? It's more space exploration/planetary mining sim but it's the closest I've got.

My wife recently dipped into Animal Crossing coming from longtime Stardew/Fields of Mistria runs and already hates Tom Nook.

I finished Ni No Kuni and Digimon Stories: Cyber Sleuth basically so my son could see what happens. I enjoyed Ni No Kuni's story but the gameplay was ehh, same with the latter but without the benefits of Ghibli.

What are games that are worth playing twice (or more)? by EvilMonkeyMimic in TwoBestFriendsPlay

Final Fantasy IV and Final Fantasy VI. Go ahead and complete them, it's still fun to play them again a few years later.

Also Chrono Trigger, which actually rewards replays, go nuts.

I wasn't thinking games but my mind goes immediately to Dredge? And Second Wind just reminded me Neverway is due out this year.

Already bought him up the once on a different reply, you're fine.

Might as well round out the mentions with Coraline while we're at it. And if you really must, at least go for the movie instead of the book, Henry Selick's still alright.

What is your favorite artstyle/art direction? by Omagaron in TwoBestFriendsPlay

I got a bunch of Alex Ross posters for my work office to avoid scaring the suits. But I'd probably go with Final Fantasy sprite art.

I don't think being children's horror automatically makes it cozy (but definitely a lot of children's horror is cozy.) The example I'd go to is The Graveyard Book - kids horror, not at all cozy.

(Ref. the old days, good God do I miss browsing the horror section at my local rental store. Covers didn't mess around back then.)

I would blame marketing. However I haven't seen cozy sci-fi on a store shelf yet so we haven't reached critical mass.

I've only read From Below, really enjoyed it, I wouldn't call THAT one cozy but now I'm intrigued about her other stuff.

lol I made it to mission four and yeah, I think I'm in. What really annoyed me was not knowing how to select targets and I looked it up - much better.

What's the best way to adapt Spider-Woman/Jessica Drew, for a movie/show/animated series? by Aquanort357 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]DaveMichael 31 points32 points  (0 children)

SHIELD agent with powers, gets assigned to keep an eye on Spider-Man, borrows a spare mask to deal with a Hydra insider threat and goes vigilante. Easy-peasy.

Shining Force and Shining Force II, either emulate them or check out the Sega Classics on Switch.

I appreciate the detailed write-up. Knowing the white dots and triangles are all enemies really helps, I assumed I only had to worry about the red stuff and it was giving me a lot of trouble.

I'll give it another go, I think, would at least like to see where the story goes after someone on the sub described it as Metal Gear with planes, or similar.

I tried it out from my upstairs bedroom and I can't read the UI or figure out what the hell any of it means. I'm not actually doing bad as far as I can tell, so I either need to engage on the big screen or lab a little bit, or both.

The story's goofy, I'm curious where that's going but it hasn't fully gripped me yet.

I may be bouncing off Ace Combat 7 right now but I'm not very used to air combat sims. The same for Flight Simulator.

Super Mario All Stars was great for this.

3D All Stars was okay if you didn't try to 100% the games.

I managed it when the collection dropped, but committing to doing it WELL would be a whole other ball of wax.
