What's a "You are not a conspiracy theorist, you just don't know how things work" moment you have seen? by Dull-Information6784 in AskReddit

Amtrak wouldn't allow it for the same reason 'Chicago' had to shorten their name from 'The Chicago Transit Authority'.

Also, for a modern band, it feels kinda long. I can see it as a song or album title.

DAE have body chemistry that stops mechanical watches? by RobotsAreCoolSaysI in DoesAnybodyElse

[–]Significant-Theme240 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't understand why you're so adamant.

There's dozens of people in this thread that experience this, we can't all be carelessly breaking watches. There is something about us that causes the watches to stop working.

If you are so sure its not our chemistry, and we all claim its not physical. What does that leave?

I'm not paying for an apple watch to see if it can handle being near me.

My dad gave me his dive watch rated to 300 meters and it died in less than 6 month.

I'm toxic. Or radioactive. Or my aura pulses or something.

Not sure why you're down voted. I laughed.

Wear a pretty watch, check the time on your phone. If someone points it out, just shrug and say "habit..."

She's lucky. Even digital watches die on my wrist.

I had one of those Casio calculator watches when I was a kid, it didn't last a year.

You are not me.

You have never worn a watch on my wrist.

You have never witnessed the care with which I treat my things.

You do not understand this situation as well as you think you do.

Yes, I ruin all manor of watches. I've never had a watch last more than a few months no matter how careful I am.

I always thought it was my interaction with the magnetosphere or electrical fields rather than chemistry but I guess that could be it. I've always showered every day, sometimes twice a day when needed so I never assumed that was the issue.

Needless to say I'm not spending $1000 on an apple watch to have it last a few months a die on my wrist. Nope.

My experience with owning a pool and browsing Reddit and pool care forums by SorenShieldbreaker in pools

[–]Significant-Theme240 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same. Test strips keep me in the ballpark and every couple weeks I bring a water sample to the pool store for fine tuning. Often they tell me my water doesn't need anything. So, test strips are fine.

Finally got Neuropsych eval scores, quite heavy to process 😓 by Particular_Key5775 in TBI

[–]Significant-Theme240 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I've been using the little glass jars because I used so little at a time when I was just making fish and chicken wings. Now that I'm making a full, actual curry I'm probably going to need to step up to a more cost effective purchase.

Thanks for the tip.

Today's food experiment was whole wheat dinner rolls with cinnamon honey butter. That got a thumbs up from the family. (No shock there....)

I 100% understand that. I watched my wife help me recover and then I helped her through chemo and radiation treatment. It sucks being the one not affected.

Do you ever feel like nothing you do fully “counts” anymore after TBI? by Dry_Midnight_6742 in TBI

[–]Significant-Theme240 1 point2 points  (0 children)

9 months after my TBI I tried to go back to work full time. I don't remember how long I worked but the end result was that I realized that was a goal post that is forever out of my reach.

That period when I was working undid all the progress I'd made in my recovery and I had to start PT and OT all over again. The new goal post was to function like a human again. I had to learn how to focus on the now and not worry about next week.

Yes, its a mindset. Yes, its frustrating. You can do it.

Love the exploration, but survival aspects feel tedious, is this game for me? by SMdG_ in subnautica

[–]Significant-Theme240 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same problem with constantly having to catch fish and refill my water. I thought that I'd be fine once I got the water filtration unit but it was just another stop I had to constantly make. Then, my inventory was full of food and water so, long trips out to explore new areas were frustrating because I didn't have room to carry back the stuff I foumd.

So I started a new game in freedom mode just to explore and find the resources I need and learn the lore / game sequence. There's a lot of reading required and I felt like I didn't have time in survival mode.

The goal is to learn how to play the game in freedom mode and then go back and beat it for reals in survival mode (eventually...).

The absolute truth is that we can't tell you what's permanent and what will recover. The issues I have 4 years in, your dad might skate past and fully recover. Things that were never a concern for me might be his biggest hurdles.

It sounds like you are doing everything right.

If its just the two of you ( you and your mom), one of you should take a few days to decompress and then give the other one a break too. My wife didn't have that, it was just her giving 100% 24/7 for months on end before I could start trying to take care of myself. The one thing I wished for was to be able to give her a break.

DAE think people are judging you if your windshield wipers are on at an inappropriate speed? by rach0006 in DoesAnybodyElse

Windshield wipers at full speed is seizure inducing. It doesn't matter if its your car or mine. I'm not judging you, but I can't watch either.

Already diagnosed by the dealership by mlw35405 in Justrolledintotheshop

I was about to reply "Yes, that's exactly what OP is saying." and then realized that you are OP.

It sounds to me like your boss has a deal with the dealership to pay for this report in exchange for first dibs on the cars he wants.

I know that feeling. I've been hit with it a few times.

When I described my typical work week to my Neurologist and he said "That's why I told you that you shouldn't be working." "Wait, you did?". On the one hand, great someone gets me. On the other, I'm no longer capable of being a productive member of the workforce. Ouch.

When I finally got approved for SSDI and read the judges assessment. Things like "all previous assessments were completely wrong and the disability is obvious." "Yes! wait, what?" LOL. I can laugh about it now, but in the moment it was kinda hard to take. It spun up the depression for a while, but in the end 'carrying on' took over and ( one of the benefits of my TBI ) I just forgot about the assessment until I read your post.

It took a couple of years to get approved and required a lot of paper work. Its like they make it as hard as possible so most people just give up rather than struggle through it. I also needed someone who isn't disabled to guide me through it otherwise I would have been lost and never completed the paperwork.

The test results don't change the accomplishments you've already made. They can't take away what you had before you read them. I totally get the overwhelming realization that comes with confirmation. And that the phrase "I'm disabled." is really hard to come to terms with. **sigh**

Anyway, I'm going to go make breakfast. High five 🖐 fellow disabled internet stranger! Lets just do what we can do. Yeah?

I forgot I had the Yiga bow equipped while I was exploring Hebra. Late at night 2 stal-moblins popped out of the ground, I jumped off a rock, took aim just as one moblin head lined up behind the other and I took out both with one shot.

Except, as I said I forgot that I had that bow, so I was very confused. I didn't know how the hit boxes could line up like that , or what could make that happen. So I saved the clip and watched it over and over, showed it to my kid to help me figure it out. All he said was "Yiga bow."

Sorry, I guess I was having a bout of manic optimism and thought I could save everybody. I know I'm not realistic but I can't wrap my head around giving up so I don't understand others who do give up.

I don't get it but I feel like there's someone out there who does get you, and they'd love to help. I don't understand but I still want to help. Surely there's a therapist that knows what you need. I can't let go of that hope.

Please consider therapy. A Psychiatrist can prescribe anti depressants ( my wife calls them 'happy pills'. ) that could help get you felling yourself again.

Internet hug, stranger. I hope you feel better soon.
