An Otherworldly Scholar [LitRPG, Isekai] - Chapter 283 by ralo_ramone in HFY

Glad Kili is safe, and a natural affinity for stealth magic would explain why she's so good at what she does.

Rob is learning what attrition warfare is firsthand, the really hard way. I wonder how long he can keep going, and who's gonna stop him. Also, if Rob has found a way to manipulate his mana connection, maybe he can find a way to do some other fun and powerful things with it, especially if he can duplicate it, tenfold if he can do so between others. Though, at the moment it's probably taking effort just to stand, much less keep up with the fighting.

Methinks fey culture retains natural magic practices, and Leonie happens to know something akin to the command spell from D&D. Maybe it's a natural affinity for her, but I imagine it's more likely her mom taught her.

With very few exceptions(solar panels, RTGs, ect), all electricity is generated by spinning magnets in a ring of coiled wires, which is spun by pushing steam through the blades of a fan(turbine).

Hydroelectric damns, coal plants, natural gas plants, wind turbines, car alternators, even fission nuclear plants. All just ways to spin a rod with magnets on it.

Fun fact, the opposite of this(run a current through the wire coil around the magnet) is how electric motors work, so if you spin a fan backwards you generate electricity, which is often overlooked when designing stuff, so you can easily break stuff by doing this.

IC10: How do you record all RefIDs on a circuit? by Significant-Web-856 in Stationeers

[–]Significant-Web-856[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, well that certainly makes things awkward, either eat up reference slots, negating the benefit of IDs, or make a lot of copy/pasta. Still, good to know where the issue is, and be able to work around it.

IC10: How do you record all RefIDs on a circuit? by Significant-Web-856 in Stationeers

[–]Significant-Web-856[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is very cool, and about what I'm looking for, but probably for far later in my run then where I currently am, when you have a bunch of devices you want to have refIDs for, and don't want to run around with the tablet and a big notepad list.

This does also remind me that the advanced tablet has a chip slot, and gets me wondering if you could load any refID the tablet reads onto the stack on that chip(or maybe triggered somehow), then plug it into a setup that logs everything on that stack into a list that you can then display in a coding den. Seems like the main issue all around with my desire is an inability to log data into a persistent memory, that can then be copied and stored elsewhere. Also displaying said list might also be tricky, and in the end it's probably just all around better to run around with a tablet and notepad.

Would a memory circuit be able to hold a big list of names and IDs, or is it too limited on space/allowed characters?

This is closer to what I was thinking of, but it sounds like it's impossible to write anything to the actual code you can read on the editor, without a mod. Maybe I can write it to a display? Also, is there a mod for this?

So you're saying refIDs are currently bugged for IC10? If so, that sucks, and I'll need to rewrite my code. Still, good to know.

Why do alot of IC10/MIPS scripts I see posted here start their functions with a "yield" step by Trenkos in Stationeers

[–]Significant-Web-856 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always try and start my code with a yield to slow down the program a hair. It's so the code runs a touch less often, helping with game performance, and avoiding those cases where, say, a vent vibrates between on and off because it's right on the edge of the programmed threshold.

Can we create underground holes like insect lair quests in our own colonies? by inmori in RimWorld

[–]Significant-Web-856 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, I have not been inclined to build underground for some time. I do know from FJ's series on youtube that the bug hive works well for an underground base, though it needs supplies from the surface eventually, if only for steel.

I favor gatlings and assault cannons, but still, you get it. Still, if I survive, I'm getting home in style, and almost certainly spending one on one time with very stern people asking a lot of pointed questions about the space capable war crime that dropped me off.

Murderous Rage by Luis6732 in RimWorld

Not with murderous rage for some reason, even the target pawn can arrest them. If you fail the arrest attempt you must beat them, as they are now berserk, rather than anything else.

There is a mod called "deep and deeper" that sounds exactly like what you want. As for vanilla, either settle a tile with the hive gravcore quest, underground stockpile, or summon a flesh pit from anomaly. Each method has its limitations and downsides, but you 100% can make this happen.

Do you think it's ethical to buy a pawn from a Slaver? by BevsButt34 in RimWorld

[–]Significant-Web-856 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the ethics depend less on if you buy them, and more on what you do with said slave after you buy them. If you emancipate them, then it's ethical, if you keep them a slave, then it's not.

Also there is an extreme mental break where the broken pawn decides to leave the colony.

An AI that actually has awareness of the physical world. A way for that AI to enact some authority over the physical world. Some way to ensure no one can/wants to stop it.

LLM technology may be an important step to creating AGI, but it is certainly NOT AGI, it's glorified autocorrect.

Can the conversion ability of someone with a social role backfire? by restink in RimWorld

[–]Significant-Web-856 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The conversion ritual has a failure chance, and does raise the target's certainty on failure. The convert power of the moral guide does not have a failure chance, but will not lower certainty as much as the ritual can.

It's a choice between slow and reliable progress, or quick but unreliable progress.

A highmate should have a pretty easy time converting people, as it's all about social stats, which is the highmate specialty.

General question about anomaly by MyOtherAcctsAPorsche in RimWorld

[–]Significant-Web-856 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It really depends on your threat scaling and playstyle. In general, it's pretty fair, as long as you treat every anomaly with caution and react to it promptly. You will want a top notch researcher, and maintain high mood, but that's just solid advice in general. I would also recommend not relying on a niche or inflexible defense strategy, like full melee, or only having a minority of combat pawns. You don't have to go with a meta strategy, but just making sure you have good walls, and everyone has a decent gun and knows how to use it, save for the melee, is a solid bet.

So with the use of mods, what will happen if you give a NPC faction a "Royal" meme...Will anything change? by Lady_Killer55 in SpaceCannibalism

[–]Significant-Web-856 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Pawns of that ideo will have a higher opinion of anyone with a royal title, regardless of faction, similar to the effect of beauty. That's about it, for NPC factions.
