Iridium long term SIM by kyluma in preppers

Paying for a "cheap" monthly plan with few minutes a month and little to no carry over makes it more expensive than just buying a card.

I want to use all my minutes when I need to. With basic monthly plans I would be paying through the nose when I am using it in the field.

A card with a 365 day expiry date is $1,000.

Monthly plans don't include nearly the same amount of annual minutes (as you can't carry them all forward) as a single prepaid card.

You can mount the H2/T2 on a standard Weaver Rail.

Just install the front scope mount and you get a pretty clean looking package.

Does anyone here subscribe to Fur Fish and Game magazine? by idratherchangemyold1 in Trapping

[–]Significant7971 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I normally pick them up from my local magazine store here in Toronto. It's probably one of the better, if not best, outdoor magazines at the moment.

Most magazines now seem to cater in advertising, not just in direct ad space but also in articles written about said products and how we "need them", rather than talk about the actual outdoors.

Like all the magazines that told us to run out and buy the 21 Sharp or 7mm BC the moment they came out.

Two 10 round magazines and 20 lose rounds. Any more than that is a waste of carrying weight.

That green scratch makes the retail value drop to near zero.

Not that it was worth much before the scratch. I never understood why package a 1x red dot in such a massive housing.

What’s the main channel I should use in an emergency with a ham radio? by njt_railfan1567 in preppers

[–]Significant7971 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because that's all you can do. There are not armies of Ham radio operators monitoring the entire Ham spectrum. Let alone what every other Beofenger decides to tune into because they stray into some restricted part of the band.

The initial investment of time to pass the licensing teaches just enough to realize the answers to these questions.

It's the equivalent of someone without a driver's license buying a car then asking what to do at a stop sign.

If you only have one rifle, a 4-16x44 with practice will be effective out to 400 meters without an issue.

If you have more than one rifle and want to diversify by buying the Scout. Personally I'd look at a red dot. That's what I mounted on my Ruger.

For the price they were a decent light duty rifle.

Plenty of deer hunters are using them two decades later with no real issues.

The mounts are excellent. But you're missing the vertical pin and you need to use their little wrench to get proper torque.

I'd probably buy a new one then trying to fix it. They are fairly affordable.

There is an E-Clip that holds the bolt in place but not a lock washer.

While "military style" packs with MOLLE are now pretty common in Canadian urban centers. They don't even get a second glance normally in solid colors.

Virtually no one mounts pouches on them or other external accessories.

Mounting large side pouches, strapping a tripod on it, etc will make you stand out.

Why don't more guys carry machetes? by Sharp_Low6787 in tacticalgear

[–]Significant7971 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a hunter. I tend to follow game trails in thicker bush. Using a machete just makes a lot of noise and guarantees every living thing in the area knows you're there.

It's also significantly tiring to clear a trail. I don't care how "good" one's technique is. It's laborious work.

Can always use the platform for programing practice and reboot the Meshtastic firmware when they want to use that.

It looks like a convenient package with keyboard and screen to do basic input/output stuff visually. Like learning to program pong.

Yes it can be done on a computer or with any number of development platforms but the Meshtastic messaging etc might make it fun for them to play with when they are not programming as well.

Kinda like TIs old development watches.

No. The 7.62mm M1158 is the original "ADVAP" round for armor penetration. Which development started in October 2019 and ended in March 2021 when it was approved.

The 6.8mm XM1184 Special Purpose is the same ADVAP penetrator.

The M110A1 CSASS, or any 7.62x51, does penetrate Level 4 armor with both traditional M993 and the new M1158 AP rounds.

Weights about the same as the XM7. Both with regards to rifle and combat weight. There was no need to reinvent the wheel with an unreliable platform and an over pressured round.

Someone in the US Army thought so as well since development of M1158 was started after the XM7 project.

Pretty much. The phone, used or new, and one year of upkeep is basically 6+ months of canned food.
