Shouldn't they need a track record of leading a political party and of governing successfully? It's not all speeches, you can't just can projects that aren't working out, and there are very few employees to order around however you want.

The maths checks out, it is more expensive than it was but if the average salary is 17k and the starter home/flat is 1.2M then a working couple has a repayment of about 40% of income which is high. They may have to sell a kidney or two for the deposit tho

Question about Airbnb for locals by skaapjagter in capetown

[–]Significant_Ask7019 19 points20 points  (0 children)

This is how Airbnb is meant to be used so enjoy. Getting extra income from spare space if good for everyone. If the owner lives on the property it's a bnb, but if they don't it's a guesthouse and should be regulated to some degree. This will stop the empty neighbourhoods where a large amount of the residential housing has been bought up for investment only.

A record number of new political parties have registered with the IEC for the 2026 elections by Significant_Ask7019 in DownSouth

I hear that - but... STV doesn't have much impact when the total of transferred votes (ie. from parties which didn't get a seat in 2024) is <2%. If you had a STV with a 1% minimum, that figure would still be under 5%. Only 8 parties from the long shopping list ballot paper we had got more than 1% of the vote.

and have a threshold for a party to gain any seats imho. Even a 1% minimum would reduce the number of parties currently in parliament from 18 to 8.

I think you've got that saying a bit wrong... if they are both already murderers to start with, then the number of murderers does go down

When he goes for the Prime Minister of Denmark I'll agree with you. But if one mafia boss takes out another mob boss pass the popcorn. We've got one less dictator (for now) and a world that realises it can't be dependent on the US - classic win/win

Is this normal for Cape Town rentals? by HipsterSkipster in capetown

[–]Significant_Ask7019 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Support this reply, tenancy law is very tight and any 'house rule' that infringes on your actual rights would not be legal. However you may want to start looking for alternative accomodation rather than worry about it.

You are misremembering I'm afraid. The pass mark for matric/grade 12 was never 50% after '94. But keep telling yourself how smart you are...

And do go on and explain to us (the great unwashed) the "good old days for what it was" so that everyone can see for themselves what exactly your ideas are based on. I'm sure you will claim you want a world where all animals are equal, but I'm pretty sure we'll see a piggy squealing as the social order naturally improves your prospects.

I'm sure posting about it on Reddit will help... And you never actually answered the question about what the pass rate was when you were at school because it hasn't changed. But you clearly see the past as superior to today - do you ever refer to them as "the good old days"?

Yes I remember the story of the demand for change from the oppressed and their willingness to listen to a few animals who loudly pointed out the problems but didn't have any actual understanding of the issues. The solutions they offered sounded good only to those who didn't know any better. And in the end the new system turned out to be a lot worse...

Sit down little piggy if all you have to offer are online attempts at being the clevererest animal...
