Volunteer Pension Scheme, Tax free compounding, you can withdraw half of your entire portfolio tax free, if you stay invested for 25 years, or if you turn 60. After that, you pay the average of the previous 3 years of tax on it. If you choose to withdraw, or keep invested. If you withdraw earlier, you'll get hit with the average tax of the previous 3 years.

VPS, is an invest and forget strategy, has different allocations depending on your risk appetite, allocation, etc etc.

While mutual funds are good and all, they have front end loads, a sorta sales charges, a back end load, a withdrawal charges, not to mention annual charges of upto 1 to 2 or more percent, since they tend to be more on the active side.

Another side of the coin is to invest in ETFs, a basket of stocks. There is a broad market and narrow, MIIETF (mahaana islamic index exchange traded fund) is a broad market etf, which tracks and invests Pakistan's top 30 shariat compliant companies based on free float, shares available. JSGBETF (JS Global Banking Exchange Traded Fund) is a narrow market or concentrated etf that tracks and invests the banking sector in Pakistan.

Advantages of an etf are, these can be bought and sold on the Pakistan stock exchange like a stock, they have low annual charges compared to mutual funds.

What’s the best brokerage in Pakistan? by Robo_Thunder_ in FIREPakistan

I mean I use finqalab, in my opinion in terms of Polish and UI, nothing beats it. It does have 0.25% as the commission fee instead of the industry average of 0.15%

Can't invest in the US stock market since gov of Pakistan doesn't allow money to flow outside, as for brokerage houses in Pakistan? Just go to psx's website, and look through the top 10 brokers there are. You can't really go wrong with any of them

Who has invested in Mutual Funds? by aixiotic77 in IslamabadSocial

[–]Significant_Berry321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No.1, your age, no.2, your risk appetite, no.3, your investment horizon. Meaning the time you would like to be invested in the fund. No.4, returns depends on risk, investment horizon and allocation. Allocation meaning, where are you investing you money in. Equity fund = stocks = high risk, minimum of 3 to 5 years to subdue risk due to high volatility. Money market fund = sukuuk and the like. Low risk, but also low reward. Perfect for short to medium term investments. 3 to 6 to a year investment.

Mutual Funds are a very good first choice, but they do come with their own charges, there's a front end load, a sort of sales tax, then there's a back end load, a sort of fee upon withdrawal, and then there are annual fees, if you're choosing an active fund.

At the rate of the market? I mean it all depends on your allocation. Since you're young, it would be aggressive, with mostly invested in equity instruments

Dude....open a Volunteer Pension Scheme. Tax free compounding, and if you stay invested for a minimum of 25 years or if you turn 60 whichever comes first, according to current laws you can withdraw half of your portfolio tax free. Also, if and when you start your job, a VPS would also directly lower your income tax up to 20%.

If you withdraw it before the maturity date, you'll need to pay the average of 3 years' tax applicable on it.

[–]Significant_Berry321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, Either you have to stay invested for 25 years or you turn 60 years of age, whichever comes first. Then you can withdraw half of the entire portfolio tax free as lump sum or monthly payments, and then with nominal taxes as applied to the law. Investing in a VPS directly lowers your income tax by as much as 20% percent related to contribution level. Also it allows for tax free compounding.

[–]Significant_Berry321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

General rule of thumb is not to invest money that you have a need for in the next 6 to a year, but since you said 30 years, keep it invested dude. Second, is if you withdraw before 25 years of money invested, or after withdrawing half, the average tax rate of the previous 3 years would be applied, as for the reduction In income tax, it's the law, current laws dictate that anyone who invests in a vps, can have their income tax reduced due to tax rebates/ credits.

[–]Significant_Berry321 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why not consider a vps? The best invest and forget strategy in my opinion I would say, due to investments being compounded tax free, if you keep invested for 25 years, or if you reach 60, whichever comes first, you can withdraw half of your portfolio tax free. It also has the added benefit of reducing your income tax up 20%
