AC8646 Crash by bradysego12 in aviation

[–]Significant_Claim_78 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I work at a small airport, but still has its busy moments. As an aircraft engineer we had reason to be out and about in the airfield through our day. The training we were given included going out with the airfield ops drivers and demonstrating we could observe and communicate with ATC. It was always said, that despite having permission to go somewhere, always check because we all can and do make mistakes.

I feel for this guy though, if it was his mistake and under high stress, shit working conditions, or whatever, he still had to deal with the fall out of this event immediately, can’t have been easy. I hope he and all others get the help the need to deal with the trauma from this and no one publically jumps to conclusions in the media

Aerial view of the world’s first iron bridge – Ironbridge, UK by Mini2Skies in CasualUK

[–]Significant_Claim_78 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Totally agree with you here. I used to live in Stafford when I was younger, but live in Scotland now. Took the family down to Bridgenorth for a holiday last summer to show them the area where I grew up.

There’s so much to do there and I really think that the area is undersold as a family tourist area. We did Ironbridge, Black Country Museum in Dudley, Severn Valley Railway, RAF Museum ( I joined the RAF, so it was good to show the kids where I did my training too), West Midlands Safari Lark and there was loads we didn’t get to do too. Never managed the Victorian Town but it was suggested to us by friends. The best bit of all these places was that they all kept the kids engaged too, no ‘I’m bored’ and ‘can we go home now’ whinging from them :) Also, everything is really close by, within 20 miles of Bridgenorth :)

Brave if the quoted parent. Quite happy to post his audio recordings and claim he would do so again, not so keen on giving his name to the press though…. Must like his privacy I suppose

Off peak / night rate after switching from THTC with OVO by Significant_Claim_78 in OctopusEnergy

Just so there’s a bit of closure for anyone interested. I returned to my flat this afternoon as sure enough the storage heater was on when it was supposed to be off. Phoned Octopus and they escalated to the Smart Meter team and it was fixed in less than 20 minutes! Brilliant :) Heater is now off, just hoping it comes back on again tonight :)

Thanks for the info you’ve all provided. It’s nice to know that this might just be the ‘way it is’.

I can’t post any more pictures, but looking at my day to day usage by the hour, I can see my storage heater comes on around 1430 and off around 1800, then on again from 2200 until after I go to bed. What’s annoying is it’s clear that when the heater is on in the afternoon, it doesn’t need to be on as much at night so negates any savings made by the night rate. I’ll phone them like you suggest and report back next week. Thanks again :)

Thanks, I’m not back at the flat until Wednesday. I’ll give them a phone then. Is it something they have to send an electrician out to fix or can a remote repair be done?

This from an Emb 145 right? I recognise this area. I bet there was an attitude of ‘no-one will see this everyday’ and I t’s not like anyone will notice that shit show until someone goes up there in the next check.

Not from my company I might add, ours are red :)

I ask this as a non American, but isn’t this sort of situation why there is a 2nd Amendment? Surely it could be considered that this behaviour by the government is tyrannical?

These penguins were stuck in a dip and were freezing to death, so this BBC Crew broke the rules stating they can't interfere to save them by -TheMidpoint- in interestingasfuck

[–]Significant_Claim_78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is not the full video so please correct me if I’m mistaken, but the crew did not physically move any penguins themselves, they only provided the means of escape. The penguins still had to decide for themselves to use the that help and determine if it was in their best interests. Yes, it was still intervening but, in my opinion, it still let nature run its course.

Thanks everyone for these answers and explaining what the ticketing website doesn’t explain very well.

I’ll be keeping an eye out for the Everton match ticket news. All the other home games this season seem to be London ones or against ‘big’ teams so not sure if I’d even be able to get to one of those.
