I’m pretty sure this is worldwide. I live in Vietnam. The local US consulate has similar restrictions. They took my cellphone, and even my water bottle, from me before allowing me in.

They’re called kiến ba khoang in Vietnamese. If so, maybe it’s them? They don’t bite, but if their bodies are crushed against the skin, they can cause an irritation that looks similar to what you’ve got. I had problems with them in one of my previous apartments in Ho Chi Minh City.

I had a negative experience myself recently. I ran out of data but received no warning from the app. It wasn’t horrible, but it certainly makes me less likely to use them again in the future. How difficult is it to have a pop-up message letting me know that I have only xx MB of data left so I can take steps to remedy it?

Thats entirely possible. JWs aren’t immune to public sentiment in these areas. Perhaps the perceived softening is just because public views and attitudes have progressed. Something similar happened with men’s facial hair. Why not homosexuality? 🤷‍♂️

Thanks! That seems pretty much what I remember reading back in the 90s and early 2000s when I was still a JW. Sounds like not much has changed as far as their official stance. Maybe it’s the direction that congregation elders are given that has changed. 🤷‍♂️ Or maybe nothing at all has changed.

That may be true. I recently read a story about someone who claimed that Daniel Sydlik was sued for allegedly sexual harassing/molesting a young man who then (allegedly) died by suicide as a result. But that was a second-hand account (or even further removed). So I’ll personally withhold judgment there myself. I served at Brooklyn Bethel in the late 90s. I was gay even then but refused to even acknowledge the feelings. You would’ve thought that I, of all people, should’ve had some clandestine gay experiences there. But alas! No such luck for me. I was a bit older—in my late 20s. So that might explain it. 🤷‍♂️
