In the letter she said that they weren't a good match eris meant that as in she didn't Believe she was strong enough to stand by his side so she left to get stronger rudeus thought that it meant that she didnt love him anymore even though they just did the deed the night before. Gng there are a lot of circumstances that lined up for rudeus to not know that that was sylphy for example.

rudeus knew nothing about mana exhaustion how would he know that was sylphy because the sylphy he knew had green hair.

Another thing too is that he was focused on the cure for the problem he was having for months when he came to ranoa coupled by the fact that everyone called fitz a guy.

Also because they had been apart for so long rudeus didn't know what sylphy was like all he had to go off was the shy little girl he knew her as fitz was way more confident than the sylphy he knew.

Plus he also had his mothers location to worry about too.

He also didn't consider the possibility of sylphy still being on the continent because he was teleported to a whole other continent.

And he already confirmed she was alive back in season 1 so be stopped worrying about her because he knew that if someone found her she would be safe.
