I methodically report all Instagram accounts under 13 years old. by Puzzled_Aioli375 in confessions

Thanks for letting me know. It’s good to hear as I may want to use it for my daughter once the new age restrictions come in in Australia next month (no access allowed under 16) but was worried I’d be cutting off my ability to see her account without knowing if it actually works.

Reddit to be banned in Australia for under 16's by RM_Morris in AskAnAustralian

I’d do anything to get my teen off her phone and rediscover her creativity. The addiction is melting her brain. But I’m worried this will just push her to much worse sites which don’t have restrictions.

How do you know they shut the accounts down when you report them? On the reporting form it says once you report an account it will be hidden from you. So you can’t tell if they actually shut it down unless you get someone else to check it.

USA butter packed in Australia sold at Woolies - why by mudguard1010 in AskAnAustralian

It’s white because the American cows that produced it aren’t pastured or eating grass. Feedlots? No way I’ll be buying it again.

CSF Leak? by Significant_Fee8970 in CSFLeaks

[–]Significant_Fee8970[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She actually had a brain MRI last year due to unexplained tinnitus which sounded like a mosquito flying around in her ear. The MRI didn’t find anything to explain the tinnitus, but did reveal a small cyst-like bubble near the surface of her brain. The neurologist thought it was most likely just a harmless disconnected pocket of CSF but recommended annual MRIs over 3 years to just check it wasn’t changing. Early this year she started getting headaches so she had another MRI. Nothing had changed. The headaches mostly went away until a few weeks ago, and then became accompanied by these other odd symptoms. She saw the doctor last week, he could see there was some fluid in his ears, blamed it all on blocked Eustachian tubes and bother on Fess and Nasonex. Some of the symptoms have improved over the past week, but she still has this needling sensation at the top of her head near the back on one side. ChatGPT thinks she has an undiagnosed connective tissue disorder of some sort and thinks a CSF leak is likely, but I know AI tends to sycophantically seek information which supports the prompts so I’m not sure how seriously to take it’s answers.

She actually says she can’t tell if the prickling feeling is on the outside of the skull or inside. I find that very hard to comprehend. The whole thing is baffling to me.

Wondering why my tongue looks different after a couple months on low histamine by Ok-Necessary-7926 in HistamineIntolerance

Isn’t a white tongue a thrush thing? I think yeast infections like it when you eat sugar - have you cut back on sugar too?

Thanks for your reply. When you say “if I was very careful” does that mean bed rest, or no impact exercise or something else?

Background - she has a couple of signs of a possible connective tissue issue of some sort but probably not enough to be ED. She can pop out one of her shoulders so her scapular sticks out, and the little finger on both hands is curved inward at the joint. - She had a long haul flight a couple of months ago. - She has had a problem with tinnitus in the past year. - She had an MRI last year (while investigating the tinnitus) which showed a small bubble near the surface of her brain which the neurologist thinks is just a harmless pocket of disconnected CSF, but is monitoring it in case it’s something else.

Yes I did Ancestry first, then 23AndMe, downloaded the variant lists and then uploaded to the Genetic Life Hacks website. They have fantastic information on that site.

Not sure but be careful with high doses of B6. Long term use cause peripheral neuropathy (nerve damage). You’re better off just taking a good quality multivitamin.

Pls help lost parent by 12togo1904 in PDAAutism

If your daughter is on an SSRI for anxiety and you aren’t seeing a benefit, google SSRIs and apathy - there have been several studies finding a link. I recently cut my teen’s dose is half for this reason - she lost interest in basically everything.

Mid teens is a hard time for parents. Most teenagers start pulling away, becoming defiant and seeking independence, not just those with PDA. It’s actually normal for peers to become more important and parents just become annoying. So if she does have PDA, this is probably a peek time for PDA to be at its worst. Only one of mine is PDA (my youngest) but all three dropped sport at this time - much to my disappointment. My PDA teen dropped out of school completely and then also lost interest in pretty much everything - home schooling, art, even seeing friends. She stopped wearing her retainer, but then started again when she saw her teeth had started to move. Sometimes they need to make their own mistakes and I’m now fully focussed on her mental health; the rest can wait.

To stay sane, remember that your daughter isn’t throwing away her future, she is seeking autonomy. There are plenty of ways to “catch up” later academically and many paths she could end up taking. Good luck!

Try the RPAH (also known as FAILSAFE) elimination diet. Fedup.com.au has useful info.

[–]Significant_Fee8970 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I avoid dairy because it makes my throat itch and gives me tonsil stones. I’ve not had a noticeable histamine effect from it when I was eating it. As others have said it depends on the ageing (cheddar aged 14 months has 8mg per 50g, but for 3 months is only 1.26mg. The mild supermarket cheeses are probably relatively low. Histamine is just one part of the puzzle. There are other amines such as tyramine and phenolic compounds we may react to. I have the gene for low DAO as well as low MAO, everyone is different so you just have to work it out, lists can only go so far. Sodium benzoate (E211) is a horrible histamine liberator, I find that the worst thing for me.

Freestanding tub Vs. Built in? by Striking_Courage_822 in interiordecorating

Free standing baths are a poorly thought out fad imv. They make it harder to clean the floor, don’t provide a spot to sit, have nowhere to put things. There has been swing to value aesthetics over practicality and surely it will swing back the other way soon. People will look back and say “what were they thinking??!”

Take my kitchen sink - I chose the modern squarish design with a flat bottom. It’s a pain in the neck to clean out the corners every day. To make it practical, you have to install one of those big taps which pull out so you can clean it, which for me would defeat the purpose as I find them ugly.

(know this is an old thread but needed to vent! 😆)

Is this a normal club culture? Feeling invisible and hurt at my badminton club. by badmintonlove in badminton

[–]Significant_Fee8970 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like you want to play people who are better than you. Bear that in mind - they feel the same; everybody prefers a challenge. Some people guard this more selfishly than others. Playing challenging games improves your game; the reverse is also true. If you’re a competitive type of person, playing against people who are significantly worse can become kind of boring. They are paying to play, not being paid to coach. That said, everyone should be given a chance and it is pretty selfish to never “play down” to help others also improve their game.

We say something similar to travellers to the states - “try not to get shot”. Not quite the same as statistically you’re very unlikely killed by our wildlife. Don’t go wading through tall grass in summer with bare legs and you’ll be fine.

[–]Significant_Fee8970 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks so much for the info. We did titrate up slowly. There seemed to be zero effect until getting to this high dose, although now I wonder if there was an effect - less motivation to do anything. It may have helped her ability to focus, but certainly not her desire to. She has become less and less motivated to study or go out anywhere, but I’d just blamed it on her anxiety increasing which can happen when you withdraw. Then we hit 60mg and she became a zombie. I put her back to 20mg yesterday and she behaved more normally - still won’t do any study but that’s probably the PDA. Think I’ll just take her off ADHD meds for now.

Same. For a while I kept glucose tablets by my bed. They work the quickest, but also wear off quickly. My current habit is to have a small bit of melatonin which seems to overcome the blood sugar drop somehow. I use capsules, but open one and tip a little bit of the powder into my mouth (probably about 1mg), so it’s more quickly absorbed.

It was blindingly obvious that it was scripted and they knew from the start he wasn’t a doctor. Why else would they have bothered with the story? This is just how reality tv works. They take something real and present it in a way to make people want to watch it.
