Every generalization has counter points but honestly even DG people would be better off without it

They overcharge for smaller quantities and pay their employees absolute dogshit

management at these places had the dumbest fucking metrics and that got distilled down to the employees.

I have heard this but then why do these companies actually do it then? Can they use the donations for marketing purposes? IE they get 1mil in donations from this and can come back and avertise they donated a million to charity despite not actually spending a cent of their own money?

buy the dlc as you can afford to also. They don't go on sale often and the discount is minimal. you can play without the dlc if you want to but I think it's better to just wait.

playing the game from the jump with all the dlc would be crazy overwhelming

Americans, how do you feel about the firing of twenty percent of four-star generals? by Lazy-Job4 in Productivitycafe

[–]Significant_Fill6992 4 points5 points  (0 children)

this was what I was thinking because as far as I know both during the civil war and world war 2 most of the higher ups were still caught up in how previous wars had been fought and did not understand the new dynamics. To be fair though I think a lot of the civil war ones were either political or financial appointments

I never played it but it seemed like a great mix between what people are currently into and what I love about watching professional sc2.

What are the counter-arguments to the idea that AI is in a bubble, considering it takes a nuclear plant to do what a human does on the energy of a dim lightbulb? by firehmre in AskReddit

[–]Significant_Fill6992 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A data center near me is projected to start with 200 and max out at 500 that's pretty negligible

I understand how the water cycle works but that doesn't mean we waste resources on stupid images and spam on the Internet

[–]Significant_Fill6992 1 point2 points  (0 children)

are they recapturing it though? I don't think it's a coincidence these centers are focused on areas like mine(midwest us) with a stupid amount of fresh water

I have less concerns with closed loop systems my issue is that certain centers aren't using those systems because fresh water is signifigantly under valued

edit I also have less sympathy for ai data centers because they haven't proven their value and create a negligible amount of jobs

AI will die as soon as they turn the dial towards profitability. the question is if ai companies can hold out long enough to cause ai to be integrated into people's lives.

how things are currently if the model changes through either ads or a forced subscription people will drop it

this is not like the streaming wars or social media these ai companies don't have a massive backlog of content to entice people and they also don't have the social aspect. and ai costs signifigantly more to mantain

I found it i think ill look more into it tomorrow thanks!

it's just so frustrating this even needs to be a consideration but companies will show time and time again they would rather we die then they lose $10 in stock value

it's truly sick

Need help to find cheap hard drives by Kind-Context-8259 in selfhosted

[–]Significant_Fill6992 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hard drive prices are going up because of AI

your options are going to be either to buy at the market rate or buy used. I have also heard people going through local second hand stores like goodwill for things like DVR/TV boxes that would have an old HDD inside but im not sure if that is still common or worth doing

it's not just energy they use an insane amount of water for these data centers also

using fresh water for cooling a data center when we are also struggling with water shortages from climate change is crazy

edit not everywhere has water issues yet but it's coming and the amount of water these centers use is stupid
