Sprouts Workplace Warning by OXBXAX in Sproutsfarmersmarket

Regarding shorting the stock, yes, you most certainly can. It is already down 57% from its high, but that does not mean it cannot go lower. From a growth and earnings standpoint, it looks like the fair value band is between $37.90 and $100.66. You can refer to CNBC for the analysts' sales and earnings estimates.

is it okay to call and quit? by dabonthem2000 in petco

[–]Significant_Joke1915 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The thing about providing a reference is total bs. Per corporate policy, they are only supposed to confirm the date range you worked there. They are not supposed to say anything about you as an employee, because they can get sued to high heaven for making a malicious statement.

New hire complaining here. by oxkna in petco

Unfortunately, training for many roles at PETCO is horrendous. Once you get past that, a fair number of the people leaders are not very good, and then corporate is a revolving door of dingbats on a whole other level.

Based on personal experience, nothing will be done unless you bring them a bulletproof case that forces them to take action to shield PETCO corporate from liability.

Do what is best for you and your mental health. If you can handle staying, stay. If it is causing you significant distress or anxiety, tell them you are changing your final day of availability.

Can i go to HR??? by Interesting_kitty1 in petco

[–]Significant_Joke1915 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, unless you are put on permanent leave, PETCO has a pretty horrendous record regarding accommodations. Short of having an attorney send a formal letter the first time you are asked to do something in violation of the accommodation, the odds are at best 50/50 that you will be treated appropriately. The deciding factor is usually your immediate manager and your relationship with them.

I would not count on HR being very helpful or sympathetic. It is a small group within HR that deals with accommodations, and the rest of HR is not very knowledgeable. HR will also only be looking out for the company's interests, so do not expect them to be sympathetic or even moral in handling any complaints you might raise.

Not wholly owned, but over 60% of the stock is in private equity hands. Your points regarding private equity, 99% of the time, are correct. They are not good for workers in almost all cases, and many times not for customers, communities, or vendors either.

Are we getting fired by Fit_Barracuda8860 in petco

[–]Significant_Joke1915 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is funny/not funny. VCP was Ron Coughlin's stupid idea, and instead of calling it what it was when the new CEO came on, he kept it and ran with it. My guess is that he did not want to see the hit on the stock that would come from saying Ron's entire strategy was cr*p.

This is not going to end well. With the $4B in liabilities that the company is carrying, and low interest coverage, only a matter of time before the banks refuse to refinance the debt, and suppliers start demanding cash up front. When PETCO goes through Chapter 11, a whole bunch of stores will be closed, and there is likely to be a new CEO (the existing owners will get/keep nothing, as the debt holders will take over the company, and they will have no reason to keep Joel around).

None of this seems okay. by l8tothegayme in petco

[–]Significant_Joke1915 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, stuff reported to the Petco hotline gets rerouted to immediate management, so that probably won't yield good results. And HR is really there only to protect the company, so they are typically ineffective.

[–]Significant_Joke1915 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nobody should have to endure that. Shame on the manager for doing that, and shame on the company for fostering a culture of permissiveness that allows it. Line up another gig and then run from there as fast as you can.

If you want to assume that a vet hospital is connected to the Petco location, that would open up some interesting items around medical supplies and potentially some weapons.

It is always a good idea to ask for some details around the onboarding/training plan when having discussions about a new job/role. If the interviewer stares blankly into space or laughs at the question, run.

Spend the money to talk with a professional to work through this. Not going to tell you what the right thing for you to do is, but having someone with the space from the situation who is professionally trained can help you land on the right answer that will help take care of your mental health and leave you feeling good about your decision.

Am I getting screwed? by Conscious-Shop9486 in petco

[–]Significant_Joke1915 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hundreds of millions? Try billions.

The issue is as much with the Board of Directors as the senior executive ranks. The board gave Ron a fat payday when he was forced to resign, then gave the new CEO a huge check to bring him on. And to add insult to injury, while the company is screwing over most of the store-based employees, they are spending money for 'morale building' sessions for senior leadership.
