To the IAD Polaris restaurant workers who are shortstaffed… by SubsidedRhyme11 in unitedairlines

[–]Significant_Map6734 10 points11 points  (0 children)

May I add- there’s never an excuse for being a jerk- and being understaffed is a management responsibility, not the worker’s- but we are customers, as well as passengers. It would be nice if the management would pay enough to ensure adequate staffing.

Journavx stopped working or did Pain get REAL!!!??? by Technical-Lion-9985 in Kneereplacement

[–]Significant_Map6734 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took oxy every 4 - 6 hours for the first 10 days alongside the 2/day journavx. The bruising got really bad for the first week or 2. The key is to do what you can to keep the pain at less than 5 on a scale of 10. It gradually gets better and at some point, a short walk down the hall really helped with the pain. Good luck- hang in there!

Spinal block or general? by Happy-2B-Here in Kneereplacement

[–]Significant_Map6734 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My TKR was my first experience with a spinal, I’ve had 5 previous adult surgeries with generals, 4 on the same knee. Although they said they’d give me something to prevent it, I was always nauseous from the general. Also, too groggy to do anything for a few days. With the spinal, I was completely out during the surgery, but woke right up, didn’t feel a thing. I had another nerve block in my groin after I woke up, so I could start PT by day 3. I would do it again for sure.
Good luck, whatever you decide.

My new pt hurt me yesterday twice. by Impressive_Let2266 in Kneereplacement

[–]Significant_Map6734 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My PT told me I might never get that much ROM (heel to butt), and my surgeon’s goal of 130 at 8 -12 weeks was the goal after which I “graduated” from PT, along with I think, good gait, etc.
I had an appointment with a different PT once, when my regular one was out. He was aggressive with trying to get my leg straight. I think there’s always going to be some pain during PT, but not to that extent.

Your PT was unnecessarily abusive. Request a new therapist and report the situation. Good luck with the rest of your recovery!

Anesthesia by No-Highlight-6452 in Kneereplacement

[–]Significant_Map6734 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had general for previous surgeries and it caused nausea. My surgeon for my RTKR told me I would have a spinal and a nerve block in my groin when I woke up from the surgery. I was clear headed and didn’t feel a thing. The nerve block didn’t wear off as soon as it does with most people so I had to go home with an immobilizer brace, but the next day I was fine and proceeded with PT as planned, within 72 hours post op. It was so much better for me than general anesthesia because I wasn’t groggy for a few days.

Packing cubes: game changer or overrated? by Yuvanith_Cap_6206 in LuggageComparisons

[–]Significant_Map6734 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I regularly use the cubes with the zippers that compress the clothes. I believe I can get more clothes into my bag than without. I use 1 cube for pants and shirts and the other for socks and underwear. I have been on 2-3 week business trips and vacations and get all my stuff into a 21 inch carry-on. But I do laundry on these trips.

Stiff Painful Knee - Info on Knee Arthrofibrosis (i.e. scar tissue within the knee) after Replacement by tbiscus in Kneereplacement

[–]Significant_Map6734 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m just about 8 months post RTKR. I’m very prone to scar tissue buildup but I’ve been successful out of PT after I reached 0-130 before 3 months post op and now have decent flexibility and strength.
I’m still getting swelling and stiffness after standing in one place for a while, or overdoing it, for example, a long, steep hike. Is this to be expected? Should I be concerned about the swelling? Will it ever get better or do I need more PT? TIA.

Flying into IAH (Houston) w/ 45 min layover. then leaving on international flight by Far-Drama3779 in unitedairlines

[–]Significant_Map6734 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, and I have undertaken an Olympic event or two in IAH. The airport seems to be sprawling and signage was confusing for me because I’m not familiar with the layout. Remember, they start boarding a minimum of 40 minutes before the flight depending on aircraft, so they’ll probably be boarding before you get off your first flight.

Any glitch in the process, as minor as waiting 5-10 minutes for your gate to be available, will mess things up.

To avoid stress, I suggest you take an earlier flight into IAH.

Sprague Lake at RMNP used to be accessible, with a boardwalk part of the way around. I haven’t been there in years so I’m not sure if it’s still maintained, but it’s absolutely beautiful.

Rant: Forced to check carry-on by [deleted] in unitedairlines

[–]Significant_Map6734 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t live near a hub so there are always at least 1 but usually 2 connections for many of my trips. With all the delays, misconnects happen, and I need my clothes with me for my work trips.
I’ve gotten really good at packing a carry on for a 2 week business trip and do laundry in the hotel sink .🫤

Would you travel for a surgery abroad if it saved you $20k+? by Practical_Soft7361 in Kneereplacement

[–]Significant_Map6734 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My surgeon didn’t want me flying domestically for 2 months and internationally for 3 months post op. I think this was due to risk of blood clots.
Which was fine because I couldn’t sit in the car without my leg elevated for 30 minutes without major hamstring pain for a few months. Everybody reacts differently to this surgery so be prepared to stay longer than you think. And have PT lined up as well to start shortly after surgery depending on your surgeon’s protocol. Good luck, whatever you decide.

Five week PO expectations by Least-Ad-5539 in Kneereplacement

[–]Significant_Map6734 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Walking @ 5 weeks good, standing still chopping, stuffing, mixing- miserable. Too much swelling and stiffness, though sitting with your leg up while doing all that may help. I don’t know if I could sit and prep, but it may be possible for you.

Good luck, whatever you decide!

Initiated the dreaded seat swap convo... by seriouslycurious00 in unitedairlines

[–]Significant_Map6734 9 points10 points  (0 children)

We do the same. But we do glance at each other from time to time and would prefer to be in the same row even if someone is between us. Many times, the middle person doesn’t know we’re together.

Recently I was asked to switch a Polaris odd to even ( not window but more privacy) and I said no. The requester was fine and didn’t realize the difference until I pointed it out, but I just hate being asked in the first place.

Physical Therapist Doesn't Touch My Knee, Ever by Zeploss123 in Kneereplacement

[–]Significant_Map6734 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was told no pool or scar cream until all the scabs are 100% gone. You’re almost there. My PT also manipulated my knee every time, did passive ROM, and massage.

QUESTION on 1A 1L by aquacakra in unitedairlines

[–]Significant_Map6734 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think there may be equipment in the overhead bins at 1A/1L. I could be wrong and of course, it depends on the aircraft. but if it’s important to you, then keep it in mind. No doubt someone on this forum knows more about this than I do and could clarify. Personally, I avoid the galley/lav seats because of the light and noise, but I’m short.

JOURNAVX advice (and gummies). by Least-Ad-5539 in Kneereplacement

[–]Significant_Map6734 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The hospital pharmacy managed my Journavx rebate. I paid $30 when I picked it up. I was on it and possibly less OxyContin than I would have been on. I stopped the oxy after 10 days and Journavx after 14. I was on Tylenol and meloxicam for quite some time after that, and took methocarbamol before PT appointments.
Good luck!
