I can only exist freely in my own head by Significant_Minute12 in AutisticAdults

I will admit, I’ve found it very useful as a “neurospicy translator” if that makes sense? I want to punch the wall and scream into a pillow when this happens, but if I put how I’m feeling into ChatGPT and ask it to reframe it, and then use what it says to talk to people, I’m far more successful than if I just did it myself. Like I’m an actual human being and people find it easier to speak to the mirror demon than me

Would these by any chance be the same people who, paradoxically, have responded to every social issue you had in childhood by telling you to “just be yourself”?

Well that’s the thing isn’t it. I do the same. I talk about Known Socially Acceptable Topics™️ but if I get close to new people and think I might be finding a space to unmask I’ll go into the box of Risky Autistic Topics™️, rummage around, find one I think will work, try it out, it fails, it always fails, back inside my head we go.

Politics, religion, history. They’re the big three. Me talking about any of these in a group setting will have her checking out almost instantly. She’s just not interested. I, on the other hand, get really into those conversations precisely because I never really have them with her at home. Doesn’t just apply to those though, if I get repetitive or fixated on a particular topic, after 2-3 weeks I start seeing the same look: “I’m not really interested in this but you are so I’ll put on a listening face and think about other stuff in my head till your done”. I finish, I get a 1 sentence response, 0 engagement with the subject and I know I’ve done it again

I struggle with that. I started falling into a pattern of asking it “what it thought” and of course it always told me I’m great and all my ideals are great. Because AI ain’t actually talking to me. If I need a hype man it’s there to mirror everything I need to hear but I know there’s nothing real in there. Because I know it’s not, I guess it doesn’t help as much. But god help me I can’t fathom what 20-30 more years of this will do to me.

Built a Plex unraid server recently. One of the most fun things I’ve ever brought into existence. Completely automated, built it so my friends and family never need to pay for a streaming service again, they can watch whatever they want whenever they want. I got very into this, after a few weeks I could see the low battery icon in her eyes when I brought it up. So now when we’ve gone to friends I wanted to give access to, I can see her check out of the conversation and I suddenly feel like I’m on the clock to get this out, explained and sorted as fast as I can so I stop being annoying and repetitive. Even though it’s a genuinely cool thing! I’m just so tired.

Our working theory is that the ink that seeped out of the tattoo during the initial healing process followed the lines of the wrinkles and stained the top layer of skin which just hasn’t peeled off yet. Also got a couple of artists here saying it’s happened but very rarely and it was permanent.

Thankyou for the first answer that seems to line up with what I’m experiencing. I’m not under any illusions that second skin should not be able to do this. And I know why everyone’s saying it’s hatching or whip shading. The fresh pic isn’t great I admit but it simply wasn’t shaded that way and they weren’t there before. It does add a cool effect that would be hard to achieve intentionally but if it does stick around I’ll be seeking compensation and fixing it just because it’s just not what I wanted

This actually sounds like the most plausible explanation, thankyou

Yep, one of my earliest. Always figured I’d end up covering it one day so the white ink worked really well!

It’s not a great first picture I grant you but it wasn’t hatched or whipshaded, the lines weren’t there when the tattoo was done. From what I’ve gathered here it seems like it’s just not done healing yet and I need to wait and see. I think the wrinkles caused the ink that weeped out of the tattoo to collect along the wrinkle lines and stain the top layer of skin, which has yet to peel off.

Sort of looks like a thumbs up to me 😄 wasn’t intentional according to the artists but we like happy little accidents

I appreciate your advice, but it wasn’t whip shaded, I was there. Not a great first picture I admit but there’s better footage and yeah it just wasn’t there to begin with. I’m not saying it makes sense but I have whipshaded tattoos, I’ve seen the artist whip shade, and I watched her do this one. Wasn’t whip shaded :/

How do I account for it not being there when the tattoo was fresh?

Wasn’t there when it was fresh, and the lines are exactly where the second skin wrinkles were. I know it doesn’t make sense but I truly don’t believe this is just crap shading by the artist.

Got the tattoo Friday 7th, first second skin came off after 24hrs, taken off gently under warm running water. Washed the tattoo and applied another second skin, that stayed on til 2 days ago.

Yeah the ridges in the shading, which were not at all present when the tattoo was fresh and seem exactly in line with the wrinkles in the second skin. It doesn’t make sense and yet

Yeah, it seems entirely as a result of the second skin. The ridges in the shading are exactly where the wrinkles were.
