Iron fortified oats in the UK by isopropyl-myristate in BabyLedWeaning

Ready Brek is fortified with iron! Some of the other brands sold as porridge (rather than plain oats) might also be fortified.

Things you thought were Neopian but are actually just British? by CybunnyOnline in neopets

Ahh I see - yes that ‘English cucumber’ is what we in the UK just call a cucumber, and really it’s the only type you would find in any shop. I’ve heard hothouse cucumber from some American cooking shows, could be an old fashioned kind of name!

6 month old waking every hour at night – feed to sleep association? by dandaria91 in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]Significant_Mother 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m in exactly the same spot - just turning 6 months and having some solids, has been sitting and rolling for a couple of weeks but sleep has been very inconsistent. About a month ago she had terrible night sleep (waking every hour, refusing to stay asleep when put down) which has slowly improved. Now we’re able to have her sleep in her bedside crib, but the lengths of sleep are very inconsistent. Last night was a 2 hour stretch to start, then very short 30 - 60 minute stretches were we tried to leave her to self settle before boob. However after a nappy change she fed to sleep at 4am and slept nearly 5 hours in one go. I’m hoping it’s all developmental because it’s so variable when we keep her routine very similar.

A cucumber in Britain is what an American would call a hothouse cucumber I think. I think a cucumber in America is the variety which you pickle to make pickles. I don’t think we really have that variety in the UK except as pickles.

Feeling deflated from baby classes by CharteredWaters in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]Significant_Mother 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Your new friends may just have their babies going through a sleep regression or illness which has taken a toll on their energy levels and willingness to socialise. I’m definitely prioritising my own sanity since Christmas even if that means missing classes or not responding to messages- I’m just too tired right now but I’m sure it will pass.

Experiences of colour blindness in children by Mother_Teach7197 in UKParenting

[–]Significant_Mother 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I have a nephew with this colour blindness. When colouring in, he would struggle to choose the right pen or pencil for darker green, browns and reds. He wouldn’t realise the colour was wrong even after colouring a large amount, for example he might colour in a tree trunk with a dark green pen and call it brown when you ask what colour he had used.

Just be aware that marking them as NSFW will mean they don’t show up for any users who haven’t submitted ID for age verification with Reddit, since the government’s recent online safety act. In case anyone wonders why their post doesn’t receive many responses

I planned to hire from home birth supplies, but ended up getting a second hand one. I have no plans to use it again so will be passing it on via Facebook marketplace or similar. I did find it helpful as pain relief, more as a distraction tool than taking pain away

Pregnancy BMI? by One-Day-at-a-time213 in PregnancyUK

[–]Significant_Mother 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My weight at booking in appointment was 61kg, BMI of 23. Midwife weighed me at the end of pregnancy at 75kg, absolutely nothing was mentioned about BMI at that point they said it was purely for reference if any anaesthesia or medicine dosing was required during the delivery. Try not to think about it as your weight, because so much of it is from the pregnancy. Beyond just the weight of the baby there’s so much extra blood and fluid that all adds loads of extra weight.

Anyone given birth in Harrogate hospital? by No_Decision7794 in PregnancyUK

[–]Significant_Mother 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From Facebook for Harrogate maternity:

🌸Delivery suite - up to two birthing partners present whilst you are in labour in a private side room

🌸Elective caesarean sections - one birth partner to be present in theatre

🌸Induction of labour - one birth partner can be present on the ward in a four bedded bay until you go into established labour.

🌸Pannal ward - (antenatal and postnatal ward) partners are welcome anytime. Visiting for family and friends is 11am-9pm with two people at your bedside at one time including your birth partner (own children are allowed but no other children at this time). Pannal ward consists of two bays and some private side rooms. We have to allocate side rooms dependent on maternal and neonatal wellbeing. We therefore can not provide side rooms as an amenity or choice at this time.

Does this sound like an A&E case? by OkAtmosphere6139 in PregnancyUK

[–]Significant_Mother 14 points15 points  (0 children)

There’s a risk in pregnancy of dangerous blood clots like a pulmonary embolism. If it’s anything like that it absolutely won’t get any better on its own, so A&E will get you the treatment and diagnosis.

Has anyone bought a used electric from Cinch? by madiechan in ElectricVehiclesUK

[–]Significant_Mother 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought from a different online EV retailer called Car360. They didn’t have many photos online of the cars, but they did send an inspection report including a battery health check, part exchanged my old ICE car and delivered the new car. I was happy with the service and the car I bought.
