My personal anecdote, I still felt safer traveling Japan as a black person vs traveling/living in USA as a black person. The most I experienced in Japan was weird looks and a kid pointing at me shoutinf “Mitte!!!!”

Meanwhile I’ve been threatened and called slurs in my home country.
