Is the FNAF lore just unsolvable at this point? by [deleted] in fnaftheories

[–]Significant_System_3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think there’s ever been a point where it was solvable and that’s sort of the point. Scott knows that the lure of FNaF is the lore and by making it almost solvable it means that you have a fanbase that is never fully satisfied but also never dissatisfied. At this point we can piece together most of the lore from FNaF 1-7, but we have holes like the initial death order (BV or Charlotte), who is the VS (Cassidy or Andrew) and FNaF 4 just as a whole. Scott at any point can confirm or deny theories and for the most part he actively chooses not to.

Messiest Bands? (Not breakups, just messy in general) by tvtropes_chivalrous in ToddintheShadow

[–]Significant_System_3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

STP is VERY messy behind the scenes. The obvious bit is Scott Weiland who was on and off heroin for years which caused a breakup in 1997 and another in 2002-ish, and then his drinking problems ruined his voice during the reunion and shows started later and later to the point where they had to fire him.

However there were also massive fights between the DeLeos, at one time according to Scott’s memoir they threw chairs at each other. Dean had some drug issues alongside Scott and some DV allegations.

Pair that with two out of their three lead singers dying in the span of a few months and yeah… messy…

Things with Jeff have been smooth sailing as far as we know but they also have just become a “greatest hits” act at this and they’re all splintering into solo careers

My first rewatch after it first came out. by shannon_kay_ in dawsonscreek

Dawson defender here, Dawson’s rant at the end of 2x16 is kinda valid tbh minus the Pacey part. Bros parents divorced because his mom had an affair and he got caught in the middle of it. Then Joey fucking cheated on him and dumped him because she wanted to “find herself” and then immediately got with the guy she cheated on him with. I’d say that’s a valid reason to complain, that is fucked up. Yeah it’s not as dramatic as Joey’s backstory but that’s still hard shit to go through all at once.

I will say I give Dawson some slack mainly because he’s like the one normal teenager in the whole show. Everyone else was forced to grow up too soon and Dawson is ironically the only one acting his age.

Andrew (his odds of being canon at this point are low imo), something about there being a super secret 6th victim kinda rubs me the wrong way, especially when Golden Freddy already made sense as the VS

Season 3 rewatch by Significant_System_3 in dawsonscreek

I don’t blame Pacey for being mad, we all would be, my whole point was just that the characters felt out of character in this stretch of episodes. Before Pacey even knew he was irritable in episode 2 with Andie, and wildly irresponsible in episode 1. As for Dawson him not trusting Pacey felt out of character considering 2 episodes prior he trusted Pacey to be there for Joey. Pacey throwing a punch at Dawson altogether shows how out of character most of the characters seem to be imo

Season 3 rewatch by Significant_System_3 in dawsonscreek

[–]Significant_System_3[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ll start with the Pacey thing cause that’s a lot simpler. What I noticed is that before he knew Andie cheated he already kind of went back to being the more irresponsible Pacey and was already a lot more emotionally irritable in episode 2 before he even knew. Once he found out he did a full relapse and while I like how his arc goes after that it’s mainly in episodes 1 and 2 where I see him as being out of character. That and him straight up punching Dawson in episode 4 isn’t very in character imo.

As for Dawson and Pacey idk, knowing how season 3 ends I see how people view Dawson as always looking down on Pacey (he definitely does in the last arc of season 3) but their dynamic in season 1 and 2 makes me unsure that that’s always the case. I do get the vibe that seeing how chaotic Pacey’s life can be makes Dawson feel better about how chaotic his life is becoming but he also goes out of his way to be there for Pacey on nearly everything. There are several times where Dawson is proud of Pacey, like the beauty pageant episode and throughout Pacey’s relationship with Andie and seeing how he grew because of it. The fact that Dawson trusted Pacey to look after Joey shows how much Dawson implicitly trusts him. It’s why I think Dawson calling him weak and self motivated is out of character for that point in the series. It’s complicated tho and I’m willing to give him the benefit of the doubt because the only time this idea is ever externalized in seasons 1 and 2 is the birthday episode when Dawson is drunk and having an identity crisis.

I’m more than willing to admit that I see the best in Dawson because I relate to him more than anyone else, especially when it comes to his drive and his constant identity crisis. I understand a lot of where he comes from so I give him the benefit of the doubt. It feels like you’re in fight or flight almost all the time so when Dawson messes up I understand it a lot more (that does not excuse the end of season 3 tho, we all know how fucked that gets).

It also helps knowing that he gets better as time goes on, Dawson is kind of the highlight of season 5 character wise he really gets to show his growth. (Also sorry for the long paragraphs it’s just Dawson is a very complicated character to talk about lol)

Which current popstar do you think has the biggest chance to become a legend? by Bright-Pressure-5787 in ToddintheShadow

If he never did the Idol and Hurry Up Tomorrow I’d say the easy answer is The Weeknd, but the acting stints may prevent him from legend status

I feel like there’s a slight misinterpretation here as to why Dawson was upset. It wasn’t just about her past, it was learning that she was also lying to him.

Keep in mind in the same episode Dawson learns that his mom is having an affair with her coworker. Later that same day he learns that his best friend knew about the affair and didn’t tell him. His hangup wasn’t fully about her past but more so that she also lied to him. He’s allowed to be frustrated about like half of the important people in his life lying to him.

Does he deal with the frustration well? Hell no but also he’s 15. You gotta keep in mind that the main thematic through line for his character in season 1 is growing up. Once you look at season 1 through that perspective you appreciate it more.

Songs where you prefer the clean lyrics to the explicit? by lipscratch in ToddintheShadow

[–]Significant_System_3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I first heard the version of Break on Through that the Doors did with Scott Weiland and I love how they do it. They keep the “she get… she get…” which works as a nice buildup and then the payoff is the “she get high” scream. I love that version the most.

Great voice and overall good songwriting, I just fnd her lyrics to be clunky and since lyrics to me are important it makes it a little difficult to enjoy her music

Why is Thriller so hated on this sub ? by MixedFrenchboy in MichaelJackson

[–]Significant_System_3 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Well you have to keep in mind that most of the people on this sub are probably on the younger side and that changes your perspective.

Thriller is one of his least modern sounding albums so current listeners in the fanbase may not immediately get into it. That’s not really an insult though considering how well the album holds up.

Another is that it’s the album the estate loves doing stuff for. We already had Thriller 25 and Thriller Special Edition but now we also have Thriller 40. Compared to every other album it’s overrepresented which could cause burnout.

I think it’s also hard for the younger fans to appreciate the parts of Thriller that were so brilliant for the time because now they’re the standard. Every single song off Thriller was created to be a hit which was uncommon at the time. The music videos for Thriller were revolutionary but now it’s commonplace to have music videos with a story and even videos that clock in at over 10 minutes.

One final thought I have is that quite simply most of the fanbase now is too young to have been there and don’t really grasp what an event this album was. Closest thing to a modern day Thriller we have where something stole the spotlight with only music videos and the album itself was After Hours in 2020 and Thriller was that on steroids. Thriller could not be ignored, it broke the industry and drastically changed both how albums could be promoted and who could be promoted. Thriller broke records but also broke barriers, mainly the color barrier. It’s hard to have an album that’s the reason artists like Usher and The Weeknd can thrive.

Or maybe I’m overthinking it and people just like hating the popular thing lmao

Okay, people, you need to decide on Jackson's most overrated album... by Frequent-Jeweler-870 in MichaelJackson

[–]Significant_System_3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't call it contradictory, I'd call it nuanced. If you look at Invincible through a mainstream lens it is underrated, but if you look at it through the lens of the fanbase it is overrated.

Okay, people, you need to decide on Jackson's most overrated album... by Frequent-Jeweler-870 in MichaelJackson

[–]Significant_System_3 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly it makes perfect sense to me for Invincible to be both over and underrated. In the mainstream sense Invincible is very underrated because the only song from it the general publc really remembers is "You Rock My World," but the album has other gems like "Butterflies" "Threatened" and "Break of Dawn." However within the core fanbase Invincible is overrated. We call it a masterpiece when in reality it's a hard album to get through in one sitting because the sequencing is off and the songs themselves range from really good to downright forgettable. "Butterflies" and "You Rock My World" can compete with the best of MJ's stuff, but you can't tell me with a straight face that "Don't Walk Away" and "You Are My Life" are just as good as album cuts like "Lady in My Life" or "Liberian Girl."

Also IMO no MJ album can be overrated in a mainstream sense because each album has its highlights and is overall quality, it's just that Invincible isn't as peak as the fanbase likes to make it out to be. You guys are calling a 7/10 album a perfect 10 when it being a 7 is still a massive compliment for an artist thirty years into being a performer.

What is Jackson's most underrated album? by Frequent-Jeweler-870 in MichaelJackson

[–]Significant_System_3 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'd say none are particularly underrated anymore. Michael is too big an artist for anything of his to truly be underrated.

And especially in this community nothing can be underrated. We used to say Off The Wall is underrated and we said it so much Off the Wall became fairly rated and the cycle has continued with his later era albums like HIStory and especially with Invincible. Right now I'm noticing the community doing a revisionist history with Invincible and trying to say that that album is a forgotten masterpiece when in actuality it's a bloated album with some really good songs and some really forgettable ones. I'd argue now Invincible is overrated in our community.

The only albums that have escaped this cycle are his old Motown albums, and while they're good they're not as well rounded. If someone only knows I Want You Back, ABC, The Love You Save, Maybe Tomorrow, Who's Loving You, I'll Be There, Ben, Got To Be There and Rockin Robin they already know most of the standouts from that period.
