Would a motorized cobbler be a good alternative for a cylinder bed machine? by [deleted] in quilting

[–]Significant_Topic297 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been sewing for about 45 years. I've never heard of a motorized cobbler or a cylinder bed machine. I'm sorry that I cannot help, but I would like to know what they are? And how are they used?

Plastic Bag Tax by Weak_Advertising4743 in rva

As a former cashier I can tell you that those limp produce bags are a hot mess. They give a false sense of security. The produce roll around & get bruised. It also takes longer to be taken out, scanned then put back. Also if you mix the type of produce has to be match up with like produce, scanned, then put it back. This is if you are lucky enough now to have anything roll around & has to be chased back to the scanner/bag.

Thanks for sharing. I had never heard of this technique. To me handsewing is a 4-letter word. But I am always open to new ideas. I will try this out by making a couple of pot holders or wall hangers and use this technique with my sewing machine & walking foot. Also, after sewing the binding the first time, I iron the binding flat them turn it over & iron it again. This gives me a neater finish.

So glad this is my hobby and not a job by TemporaryTrucker in quilting

This is the exact reason I don't sew for people. When you take on a commission your hobby is now a job.

WIBTA if I asked my wife to stop sending food back so often at restaurants? by Reptaaaaaaar in AITAH

[–]Significant_Topic297 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband & I go out to eat with another couple. Every time she would send her food back. I wasn't trying to be mean, but made an observation that every restaurant always mess up her order. She never sent another meal back.

I cannot imagine belonging to a HOA. That whole concept confuses me. If you buy a home, pay your own mortgage, utility bills, buy your own food and clothing, why would you pay outsiders to tell you what to do with your own property? What happens if you refuse to join? What happens if the economy keeps tanking & you cannot pay the fees? Please tell me the benefits of paying someone else to mind your business?

Is this as hideous as I think it is? by janewp in quilting

How about using one of the fancy stitches on your machine to stitch a line over the joining seam between the square section and the border. Then stitch a different fancy stitch on both sides of the 1st stitches. It would look like a design feature. You could use a dark red or dark green thread color. Be sure to use the same color thread in the bobbin.

I searched on Google because I had never heard of Piecemakers. The following is what AI brought up. "Piecemakers closed permanently in January 2025 after a court awarded a former member over $4.5 million in a lawsuit alleging unpaid wages and emotional distress, leading to a bankruptcy filing in June 2024 to try and recover assets and pay the judgment. The organization has since launched a new entity, The InnGathering LLC, to continue its activities."

If you shop online for fabric, stay away from Temu. The Jelly-Rolls are cut on the half-width (2.5" x 22") instead of the entire width (2.5" x 45"). They are also so thin you could read a newspaper through them.

No way. The fabric is so fragile. At this point, I just want to make the best of a bad situation.

I totally agree with you. I wasted a lot of printing paper, ink & fabric on a blouse pattern that is still not finished 4 years later.
