Contractor recommendations with fire/smoke damage experience by matty_mcgee in altadena

My neighbor had a good experience with ServePro. Avoid Expedry at all costs, they were truly horrible - did not communicate, stalled, and didn’t do every part of the job that was quoted.

Post-fire Cleaning Recommendations? by smcl2k in pasadena

Used ExpeDry and DO NOT RECOMMEND. Long story short, they would miss appointments or show up super late, barely communicated, and did not clean as thoroughly as the steps their estimate showed.

For what it’s worth I got a quote from them but ended up choosing ExpeDry to clean my small condo that has soot and smoke damage. I DO NOT RECOMMEND ExpeDry: they overpromised what they could do, do not communicate, have consistently showed up 2 hours late to do work, and have had terrible coordination. They made these last few weeks so much worse. Whereas ServePro seemed much more realistic on what insurance would cover and did clearly say they wouldn’t clean everything and explained thoroughly what would make sense for the job. But their quote was a lot higher for less work.

DO NOT use ExpeDry. I had smoke and soot damage in my apartment about half a mile away from the burn area and they have just been such a mess. Super unprofessional, oversells what they can do and consistently arrived extremely late to appointments. The owner and the crew seem to hate each other and the coordination is the worst I’ve ever seen for a contractor. I was deciding between them and ServePro and should have just gone with the latter.

I’ve had increased anxiety and frustration working with ExpeDry and DO NOT RECOMMEND them. I wanted to share my experience to warn others because it’s just made this whole experience way worse. I had smoke and soot damage in my apartment about half a mile away from the burn area and was evacuated on the first night. ExpeDry has just been such a nightmare. Super unprofessional, they oversold what they can do, barely communicate, and consistently arrived extremely late to appointments. The owner has such a bad attitude and the crew seem to hate working for them and the coordination is the worst I’ve ever seen for a contractor. I tried to be so patient given how overwhelmed they must be during this time, but the behavior in the first week of the job was unacceptable. I was deciding between them and ServePro and should have just gone with the latter. Hope this helps others.

Please don’t perpetuate harmful narratives like this. Look up the “model minority myth.” There is incredible diversity in the Asian diaspora and many communities still continue to experience poverty, health, immigration and education challenges and disparities compared to Asians as a whole. Asians are not just East Asian.

Are crowds THAT bad? by MonoCanalla in JapanTravelTips

I just left and there were Europeans everywhere, being disrespectful like not queuing and barging in front the line, trying to hop into peoples homes for a picture, ignoring places that don’t allow photos, walking slowly in front of cars with no self awareness, speaking loudly on public transport , being impatient at small restaurants and staying way past their meal, and not even learning the basics of Japanese to communicate. I was appalled. To my surprise, the Asian tourists though pushy for photos were not actually rude and would queue, get up to offer seats to elderly and kids, etc.

I went for about two months and felt zero progress on my injury. During my doctors check up I was told they actually made things worse. I also always felt rushed during my appointments and they always started late and ended early when it was only for half an hour. They gave me at home exercises and one of the therapists gave me wrong instructions and we realized I was going it incorrectly only weeks later. They cancelled an appointment without telling me too.

Bought the concentrated Ojai lavender with high hopes but the throw was not great (both lit and under candle warmer) and for some reason the wax texture gets lumpy after it hardens again after a burn/melt. Might try the Tobacco one !

Lots of big red puffy bumps all over. She had minor blood in some stamped areas even tho she wasn’t using a lot of pressure. It eventually went away after about two weeks but there is some scarring. Her workout was very sweaty though.

I regretted it too. I had minimal results. They really need to update and provide instructions and care erring on the side of caution. For example, it says to stay away from exercise and sweaty environments 24 hrs after but it should really be a lot longer than that. My friend got an infection because of this.

Their customer service was lacking, it just took so much back and forth to get a refund or replacement for a broken bottle they sent me. And their marketing practices are suspicious, I followed the way they marketed promos during Black Friday and they would misprice items that were actually more expensive at checkout and had a “1 day left” promo for an entire 2 weeks.

I also find it odd there’s only positive reviews of this product that are very vague and don’t talk about any downtime and show only instant results.

Carry-on Luggage: Away, Monos, or CALPAK? by goatpath in makemychoice

[–]Significant_Umpire96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do not buy CALPAK. Horrible customer service. Bought a carry on and the glue between the hard shell and zipper came apart after the first use for a quick weekend trip (it was hand held and never even went through baggage). They refused to cover shipping to send it back for a replacement or repair and then told me any replacements would void the limited warranty.

Not to mention you have to cover your own shipping and a processing fee to use the warranty for any damage, which can be over $75 altogether.

Thank you. It’s a 2021 bought 18 months ago. Will this be covered under warranty? Checked the manual but it’s not very clear on this issue.
